Its a shame. But sadly easy to copy inventions like this will be copied. Its only a question of time.
Did you Patent it?
Try to sue them in international court.
You should report on eBay & Amazon showing proof that you are the inventor of the original & these Chinese companies are stealing your design. I hope they do the right thing & remove the listings
Shawn, why give them hints on how to improve or fix their counterfeit?
Make a mouse trap that has Winnie the Pooh’s face on it
You mean xi jinping right?
@@user-cm3ro6ln4t The Chinese Pooh Bear. THey will copy anything.
And then they leave that off the copy. This isn't the "gotcha" you think it is.
That just means he can't sell his trap in China. Not that they can't copy the design and leave out that detail.
lol do you follow Brendan?
I bought a Dizzy Dunker. It works great. It catches mice as advertised. I knocked it off a high shelf, onto a concrete floor and broke 2 parts. I contacted the company. They sent me out a brand new unit, no questions asked, no charge. Try that with a cheap Chinese copy!
yeah but a piece of tape + chinese trap = same mice and cheaper. Checmate.

EXCELLENT! *HAIL Rinne Trap & the US* 🇺🇲
@@DrVitaminAwesome It's far from a $10 difference, they are currently $5.98 a piece with free delivery so you could get 5 for the cost of 1. Unfortunately he didn't mention anything about the material quality, that could have been a deciding factor for a lot of people and unfortunately all he's probably done by making this video is increase the Chinese sales over the original ones.
There’s only a $4 difference between yours and the knock off. We’re in the market for traps on our homestead and will be supporting you. 🇺🇸
I'm not sure where you are shopping but I just found both products on Amazon for $30 (original) and $20 (China knock off). I prefer to support the inventor but 50% more price is a difference many people are likely to balk at. And unfortunately, the China version is listed at the bottom of the Dizzy Dunker listing under the "Products related to this item" section.
@@davidbwareview-blast the patent infringing model with mediocre reviews
@@davidbwathey’re like 5 bucks on Aliexpress for the knockoff, I still support Shawn, but the price is definitely going to be the deciding factor for many
Me too. Provided he sells to Australia 🇦🇺. Any product not made in China is always prefered. They have been attacking our economy for years.
It really does suck when companies steal original products and try to make crappy cheap replicas. You deserve more recognition for your hard work!
You mean like Snap-On?
Got news for you. They ALL do that. It's propaganda that most people will ever get credit for their ideas.
He stole it himself. I've seen mousetraps like this before KZhead existed. just with less plastic.
funny that the only changes they made, made the trap LESS effective...
@Kiwi_1287 ya, im pretty sure I've seen similar mouse traps over the years as well. I find people who point out made in America stuff kind of funny considering all the base pieces are likely sourced from other parts of the world and just assembled in America. As for the ideas and copyright if you make some/invent it you really only own the rights to it according to your countries laws. No one else is obligated to follow that. There are certain expectations from mega companies, but they tend to have footprints in all the countries they operate.
oh no they'll be back at the drawing board to make the hole smaller.
lol
Easy fix 😂
They think the bigger hole will sell them more units.
Latest example being Xiaomi's cheap copy of Taycan from Porsche.
I don't think so. I think they made it larger to deal with rats.
That's China for you.
Dogs have more shame than them
The word counterfeit doesn't translate very well in Mandarin
They even have a knock off Elon Musk, Yi Long Musk.
They eat dogs so they don't care about shame.
@bundalaba hey! That's giving dogs a bad name.
You would think that Amazon could be held liable for selling KNOWN! illegal copies on their market place...any other business would be fined instantly!!
its not illegal in China.
@@evilspyke5760 But Amazon is not Chinese.
It all depends, is it a patented design or just something on the market.
I had a company make a die press for a specialty plastic, and they had a copy here faster than my order was completed and delivered. To this day 5 years later, they sell 4 for every one I sell.
yep if you outsource the die making its pretty much a given nowadays that they gona steal your product. Hell even for companies that produce in china, they use the old worn out dies to still squeeze out stuff at poor quality and sell them as clone.
That's what happens if you contract with a Chinese company to make your product. They make 10K of them for you, and 20K of them for themselves, and a copy of your product is on the market before you even get your shipment.
@@bills6093 nothing to do with China, America has a long history of that also. It ties in with a particular group, who, coincidentally, were behind getting Mao into power, but that's another story.
Amazon has a long record of stealing IP and marketing them as "Amazon Basics"
Amazon doesn't steal IP, it just offers a platform for others to sell their products. Some of those are copies of originals.
Yep, Amazon took after Apple; Let third parties test & sell products, then steal, copy & undercut the third party into oblivion.
Bingo. It's one of their moneymakers.
@@mikethespike7579 They do, it's been known and confirmed for many years now. Amazon rips off the designs from the best selling items, produces them under their own brand "Amazon Basics" and then rank their "own" products higher in the search results than the original ones.
Amazon is like Facebook...They don't care.
Amazon should have to do a patent check on *every* new item from China.
US patents only apply to US products unfortunately
if they do then someone would still allow it on their site. Only the new law would work.
@lynxproductions: US patents apply to products sold in the US, regardless of where they are manufactured. Amazon should not be allowing knockoff products to be sold in US markets or other counteies which have a reciprocal agreement with the US.
@@jakeviolet2195 That makes sense.
The DOJ should go after Amazon and Ebay, not Apple.
Shawn. Long time subscriber here. You have GOT to do a video on getting rid of flies. I’m losing my sanity every summer and I cannot figure it out.
I need something for fruit flies/gnats.
You might be able to improve the paddle of both traps by making one paddle a little heavier than the rest. It will self right and feel stable to the mouse. Put the bait further in the trap and closer to the outside of the paddles. This way the mouse will be supported by the weight but once they set it off balance it will be to late and too hard for them to exit.
You need to register the item with customs, and then people importing imposters will be stopped by customs and Amazon, you sick customs on them and they stop listing them. Please advise
Well it's not quite that simple or there wouldn't be so many knock off designs of other products out there

Welcome to the world of inventors, Shawn. You spend however long it takes to perfect your device, and then you spend the rest of your life trying to fight off the pirates who steal your ideas and your hard work. I hate that, but many other inventors have experienced the same thing.
Nikola Tesla for example
You need to combine the best of the Electronic Rolling Log trap with your purely mechanical Dizzy Dunker, Shawn.
Several people here have said something like "sue Amazon". I think the proper thing to do is notify them of the seller infringing on your patent. I believe they will notify the seller of the infringement and if they don't take it down Amazon will. I don't know if there is a problem with sellers reposting offerings that have been taken down.
Amazon don't care They will take money from anyone
They will. As easy as getting a new Amazon account and print new labels with Woofong instead of Fongwoo.
Doubt that would be successful. It's changed enough from the original to not be an exact copy.
Believe it or not, *US Customs and Border Patrol* does in fact have a task force especially for this kind of counterfeit goods! They specialize in the e-commerce "knockoff" sellers. CBP's website has everything Shawn needs to get that started.
@@volvo09 The depends on how well/broadly the claims were written. If the design falls within the scope of the claims, its still an infringement, even if there are changes.
In such a case, the European customs authorities would quickly destroy a container load. This is trademark counterfeiting and is prosecuted in the EU. But the US market is open to all imports from China.
This. We let this happen and pretty much encourage it.
In the US it's up to the patent holder to fight for their product, and unfortunately it's not as cut and dry. That said, is there a patent on this?
I don't doubt that. Europe, even tho they lost the war, is still incredibly based in a lot of areas.
And yet the EU Amazon's (BE, NL, FR, DE, ...) are filled with chinese counterfeits, including RinneTraps.
I live in an area where there are apparently no mice. I haven't seen one in over 10 years. If I did, I would not hesitate to support you and your invention. I know this doesn't help you much, but I support you in spirit.
You have one of the best utility/novelty/lifestyle channels on KZhead!!!!
I recommend everyone buy a Chinese copy, then return it as “defective”. Amazon doesn’t like selling products with high failure rates or heavy returns
Wow Shawn, that didn't take long. Shame on Amazon and E-bay perpetuating this type of theft. It's more and more easy, apparently. I'm sorry this happened. I'm sure you have patent attorneys and advice galore, but understand how difficult it is to address this kind of problem. Kind wishes.
I'm sorry to hear this man. I have a 3D printing business and make all of my own designs for my products. I know it's going to happen to me sooner or later if it isn't already.
Oh that's horrible, I'm sorry you have to experience that Shawn. And what is even more bothersome is that Amazon and eBay doesn't seem to care about IP theft.
Wish these were available in Europe, even on amazon. KEep up the great work Shawn!!
What a great invention! I just bought mine from Amazon and made sure to use your link.
I like how the one change they made thinking it would improve it was actually did the opposite 😂
Anything someone makes, they will copy it.
Not always, there are still some of the companies respect intellectual property and have design ethics. But not many....
Not sure it would help any at this point for this specific trap, but perhaps you could try to add patent protection in China for your next trap. No clue if it would be enforced there. GL

Hi Shawn, just ordered the original on Ebay. Thanks for all you do
The beard looks great, Shawn!
I've enjoyed your videos for years. I just ordered a 4 pack of traps from the website. I can't wait to receive them and start catching mice! Thanks Shawn
I've had similar problems in the past. I manufactured a "thing" I came up with and it was sold widely online. The chinese would copy my item, but I could tell they had no idea what they were doing, changes they made did not make sense. I stopped selling it when covid started, and now there are 100x more copies!! I am very happy to say that my product, made in USA, was exported to Taiwan buyers, not the other way around!
Next thing you know they'll be like, ok, we'll make the entrance hole smaller 🤦♀️😮💨 In order for them to have copied the exact size of your lid and know the size of those little attachment clips, someone would have bought one, or more to make it harder to track them down.
Your hairless mouse literally fought to get into it. He looooves traps!
Shawn, I bought two Dizzy Dunkers, and both work well! I also have 4 of the Rinne Flip and Slide, and they work well too!
You must have a lot of mice! I’ve owned my home for 26 years and had a mouse one time over that entire period.
@Dr.Schlitz if you live in the country and have animals (in my case chickens) the mice are everywhere.

Sue amazon tho cos china doesnt have the same copyright laws as the usa
Good luck suing in China
In China? Good luck.
much easier to connect with a Chinese manufacturer and have the traps made there at a fraction of the cost. it'd take years and years and lots of money to sue by the time you're done, thousands of traps will be sold, so, all those sales will be lost.
You sue, takes forever, they go bankrupt, then they open a new one next door under a new name. Rinse repeat. Shame.
It's not just China. I invented an original soft plastic saltwater fishing lure that existed nowhere else. I only shared it on a fairly local forum in my region. I handed out samples and had a few fishermen that tested it for me and it did very well. I sold quite a few and the next thing you know, other guys on the forum popped out reproductions and sold them as well. I drew up plans for another style of lure and a buddy shared the plans and a guy with a bunch of equipment had them to market before I had a mold produced - now they're on shelves of fishing stores and party boats all up and down the coast. I threw it all in the trash. People and money suck.
I guess that ought to teach you not to share your ideas with anyone. Some "Buddy" you've got.
you should source some clear 7 gallon buckets to sell also, way easier to check the trap with clear bucket.
Buying one of the real ones from your description now just to throw a finger to the copy cats 👍🏻 having mice troubles anyway due to the changing season
Just ordered the real one from your link. Thank you!
I did purchase one of your mouse traps. Honestly, the rounded top kept springing off of the lid. The squared design doesn't look like that'd be an issue.
I have a simular bucket lid mouse trap I bought about 2 years ago. I bought the original and not a knock off. It had a panel that flipped a mouse down into the bucket.

I wonder if you could sue Amazon for selling something with your patent
It's probably changed enough to not be infringement. The paddles and entrances are different. It needs to pretty much be an exact 1:1 copy.
@@volvo09 you actually have to change something like 10% of the total design and function to not get nailed for a Patent Violation.
Really depends on the quality of the patient's write-up and quality lawyers to pursue violations. But take money.
LEGO knows that too well with Lepin. They won suit, Chinese law allowed them rebrand and back to business.
@@volvo09 issue is more that Amazon isn't selling it. They are merely acting as a third-party listing site. And trying to sue the Chinese maker is a waste of time.
I can’t imagine the aggravation after doing that all the research and development just to have it half-assed copied
This is frustrating for sure I hope you come up with an ingenious solution.
Could you do some Mosquito traps this summer?
That's so frustrating. I made dog gear and I've had several large companies rip of my originals as well as cheap chinese companies. It seriously sucks :(

Amazon disabled reviews for only people who have purchased the product. AND they allow reviews from the product being given away free to Vine customers.
You demonstrated how to make the cheap copy work better. When the Chinese see this video they might change the design using your tip.
Yes it is a known fact. They will do that over night. Many wait until they have a ware house full before releasing to the public .it sucks
I'd be more surprised if someone didn't make a 3D printed version of this 🤷🏿♀️
Shameful how they rip off your product and make it worse in the process. This is why I refuse to shop on Amazon.
This is super cool that you’re reviewing a product that is trying to copy what you did.
Where did you find a transparent bucket? I can't find it anywhere.
And now the SOBs will issue an updated version. I feel for you. Patents? Why bother?

Here's my honest review of the dizzy dunker mouse trap. If I don't catch anything in one more week, I'm returning it. Subject: Not working and is a nightmare to remove from the bucket. I bought this after watching Shawn Woods's video on it (Mouse Trap Monday). This thing is NOT cheap, it is very expensive for what it is. It was a pain in the butt to put together and kept wanting to fall apart. Once together, the wheel barely moves (it sticks). The ramp wants to fall apart. I need to periodically pull the lid off to check to see if we caught anything but once that lid is on the bucket, it's a nightmare to get off. I keep hurting my fingers trying to remove it. When I do remove it, it flexes so much that the dome and sides come off with it. I really do not like this thing and I would NOT recommend it to anyone. Save your money and get something else.
gotta tell ya Shawn, that hairless pet of yours gave me the willies
To be honest, assembling the dome is very hard and they really doesn't want to stay. Sometime I will be greated by a burst open dome in the morning and superglue /epoxy does not help. It still catches mice effectively. I kept the 4 I bought to support the channel but please redesign the dome.
That's odd. The wild mice looked happy to hang around with you. Usually there a terrified and dart off quickly
Man, I hadn't been here in a while. That beard is looking good. I'm sure little Clem(don't want to to mispell it) is in college by now? JK. Love your content.
Did you have patent protection on your design?
As much as I hate to say this, it's inevitable. It's only a matter of when, not if.
The thing is they don’t see it as stealing. They really have no concept of ownership of the creator overseas.
seen the bucket trap forty years ago (wasnt a new thing then, oh well) there have been numerous variations, Some are good and others are improvements. Ive made a few bucket traps too. ( i live in the woods - so) some work better than others. the "other" spring mouse traps n rat traps ive tried. some work. some not so good. rat trapping is a bit more difficult [sneaky buggers]
Man I'm sorry. I guess imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Great work on the trap and love your content! Thank you for the education and entertainment.
That should be illegal…that’s just disgusting how someone can wake up one morning see something ‘new’ on the market and start making money on it!!
it is illegal but China dues not care.
China doesn't have or care about things like that.
Patent infringement is illegal in the USA but not so much in other countries. Some investors will develop a new product, patent it and sit on it waiting for someone to cross the line and sue them for infringement.
Your gonna have to put free Tibet in your videos (in Chinese characters as a watermark) so that they can't take your ideas. Or something about this guy looking like Winnie the pooh
That only prevents them from using his video, not from stealing his invention

It's amazing that something as simple as a defined set of plastic parts, and they can't even get the parts right, so yet again their product is less effective than the original.
Keep it up Shawn 🥰

What's the best pack rat trap?
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
It's also theft of intellectual property.
I set up 4 of them and didn't catch a thing because the possums an raccoons got to them and tore 'em apart. I didn't even think of that so for where I have these traps set up, word to the wise that if other animals are around, these traps won't hold up to them.
Oh no!
This is very disappointing indeed. China always has to profit off of small businesses success
The US needs to strengthen federal IP protection laws to prevent this type of thing.
They will add that in the next copy for sure
I made sure that the one I purchased was the real item. So sorry that the world has evolved to where we are.
I'm honestly surprised it took this long.
