Gumball 3000: The ‘Jackass’ of Rally
Prepare for some dang foolishness. The world’s most expensive cars, covered in eye-melting livery, racing (and wrecking) on public roads because who cares about the rest of us peons, right? Except, don’t call it a race-it’s a rally. Maybe you heard about the time Johnny Knoxville nearly got creamed participating in it. Or how about the time its organizers took the action to North Korea? It’s a larger-than-life story with some larger-than-life personalities...This is everything you need to know to get up to speed about The Gumball 3000!
There’s a new piece of iconic Donut artwork, have you heard? Rep your love of all things cars and Donut by taking home a piece of the action: donut.media/collections/joy-o...

I was photographer for one of their parties when they were in Riga. It was wild and I got to talk with quite a few participants and organizers. The difference between showoffs and OG gumballers was noticeable. Had few words with elderly and super polite german couple and even they addressed showy kids as "not real gumballers"
in Finland we have a thing called the "Gumball 500" where you have 500 euros to buy a car and fix it etc, and then do a roadtrip across finland with other participants.
That sounds like fun!

I had to do some filming for some of the hot boy rallies throughout the years - and I officially stopped about four years ago. It honestly just comes across sad the level these people would go just to impress or one up each other on or off the street. Constantly crossing double yellows, passing on shoulders, drinking and driving the next morning, spending thousands at parties just to brag about it to their friends etc. James was right - 90% of the time it's just selfish as hell and I'm glad I didn't fit in.
You're one of the wholesome, intelligent ones. We applaud you bro, random guy whom I'll act like I don't know lol
Real talk from a real dude...In blue.
That's exactly what Brock Yates feared and decided to end the real cannonball run
Wow, I read the comment and then the name. You're doing awesome man and I'm jealous of your mustang tbh. Also, you would think there would be some class in the rally.

Super cool video! Just wanted to point out that the 3000 in Gumball3000 is actually like the year 3000 as maximillion has an obsession with the future that u can see through his art/vehicle collection. They did try to make the rally 3000 miles to match up but its not how it got its name. Heard him say this in Mr. JWWs interview/video with him posted a few days ago and never knew
All this throwback footage is such a trip. Ive watched all of these as a kid and dreamed of being in the Gumball 3000. Gave this a thumbs up in less than 30 seconds. loved every minute!
I remember once, after they had 'some fun' in Vegas, one of the Murcielago drivers just straghit up bought another murcielago, took the wheels off it and left the rest of the car at the dealer, because he couldn't find somewhere to replace the tyres he just melted....... That was the same year that the worlds fastest speeding ticket was issued to the Koenigsegg doing 242 in a 75 zone. That same Koenigsegg had a full mobile workshop following it along the route as well because it kept breaking itself. Drive shafts, crank cases, and on one occasion emptied it's entire gearbox all over the floor for what seemed like no reason at all!
Lmfao, I forgot about the Koenigsegg with a mechanic team following them🤣
I hear that the koenigsegg have a lot of engine problems and the realibiltiy is bad I even seen a yellow keonigsegg on youtube break down and pagani zonda having a hard time to start up he said it sounds good but terriable to drive he sold it
The Jackass Gumball is one of may favorite specials out there. A few of the jackass boys have done it here and there throughout the year as well. I think Alex Roy might have as well unless it was just cannonball run
I remember Steve-O doing the gumball rally equivalent of a drug bender in that episode.
Alex Roy did a few gumball rallies
where can i watch it?
Absolutely nothing compared to the “Gumball: Driving Me Crazy” with the Ayia Boys
On a recent Wild Ride with Steveo he mentioned how he and pontius had a jerk off competition in the car. I went on a few benders since then but im pretty sure the story was about the gumball race haha
I met Max in New Mexico yrs ago and we had a brief 10 min conversation, five years later I met him again and before I could say we've met before he spoke up and said "we've met before" and remembered when, where and my name. Cool guy, I rate him highly.

Those Mischief 3000 DVDs were awesome back in the day, I still have a few of them in a box in my garage. I was at the conclusion of the 2006 Gumball in Beverly Hills and it was a spectacle watching the cars stagger in.
So if you have the copy of the Mischief 3000 with the gumball logo on the hood of the BMW you have a very rare copy. When Gumball sued them they had to remove the logo on the cover of the DVD
I remember hearing this on a VinWiki video, I think. I checked my DVD and it is one of the early ones with the gumball logon on the hood of the BMW.

I was writing my first car stories back in 2009 when I got in contact with a guy who had just done the Gumball. He was in his 50s, active in a big money industry and you would've never guessed he'd be a Gumballer. We had coffee and, after a nice long chat, he handed me a hard drive with raw footage for the rally to select for my article. However, a few minutes before I was supposed to leave, his Gumball partner showed up-they had done the even in a Gallardo-and was shocked to find out about our little agreement. Of course, I got home with 0 GB of video, and I'm still wondering what was in there to this day and whether it was the second guy's wife or employees that stood in the way of my hapiness, lol
W
should've ran off lol
Or option c, Maximilian Cooper's army of lawyers who'd have had both their asses for taking unauthorized footage during the rally and handing it to a third party. Saved you from a legal pounding there, man!
They just came through my town of Bardstown today and it was amazing
I assumed it was named for the 1976 movie "The Gumball Rally" 5 years before the Burt Reynolds movie "Cannonball Run". "The Gumball Rally" wasn't as wacky as "Cannonball Run" and was a little closer to the real race. It's worth watching.
The 1976 movie "The Gumball rally" was on TV here (Australia) the other day . Awesome cars in that movie with a bunch of famous actors
It was the same for The Cannonball run.... There was like over 50 actors.... I was surprised that I saw Jackie Chan in it with Jaws
I've seen the Gumball Rally countless times. Absolutely love that movie. I know it's the more famous of the two... but barely remember The Cannonball Run. Gotta re-watch that one I guess.
@@jessellsealy7888 The Gumball Rally is absolutely not the more famous of the two. Far more people are familiar with Cannonball Run. It was the sixth highest-grossing film of 1981, behind Raiders of the Lost Ark, On Golden Pond, Superman II, Arthur, and Stripes.
@@christopherscott3120 that's what I was saying. I know it's the more famous one, but I barely remember it
@@jessellsealy7888 I get it. Cannonball Run is one of my all-time favorite movies, I first saw it when I was 5 and it's probably responsible more than any other movie for turning me into a car enthusiast.

I remember when the Gumball 3000 came through my town in 2017. it was the first time I got to see a veyron in person. and was the year they had the graphitti'd green lambo that drew everyone in.
I remember in season two of Top Gear the super model Jodie Kidd was on for the SIARPC (she took top place, beating out JK) and she talked a lot about the Gumball.
Quick note--the name comes from _The Gumball Rally_, a 1976 comedy portrayal of the Cannnonball. Not to be confused with _Cannonball_, a 1976 comedy portrayal of the Cannnonball. Or _Cannonball Run_, the 1981 comedy portrayal that starred Burt Reynolds, Farrah Fawcett, Roger Moore, Jackie Chan, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Dom Deluise,..., and Brock Yates himself.
Exactly right
Yep, and "The Gumball Rally" is The Best !! THE Best car movie ever made !!!
The story of how the Mischief crew got into the rally was actually pretty funny and also, hella dumb but as they say, "if it's stupid but it works, it ain't stupid". If I remember correctly... So one of the producers of the crew had his E36 M3 just done up by strapping a turbo onto the engine and it was making north of 500hp. They drove it to the event as just a tagalong and was going to write reports about it, that's it. But then someone from their crew thought it was a great idea to print stickers and slab it on and act as if they were in the actual event. So they went to a sticker shop, printed whatever they could that looked authentic to what the other gumballers had and slathered it onto their M3, left it in the underground carpark like the other gumballers and continued to the pre-party. So the officials would check whatever cars that's parked in the garage down there once registration timing has closed and check if the car's plates and model all tallied towards the database that they had or not and all cars are supposed to have a special tag that they should have received prior to entering the hotel. So somehow, during the inspection during the night, unknown to the Mischief crew, some official walked past their car, realized that they had their M3 stickered up, noticed they didn't have the special tags and stuck one on the car for them thinking that they were a participant who simply forgot to tag their car before heading for the pre-party. The next day of the start of the official rally, they left the grand hall and thought they wouldn't be involved and what they did would definitely be caught and instantly tossed out but what happened shocked and slightly confused them. The official that tagged their car recognized them, told them about their car and then realized they didn't have their special wristband too. Thus he handed them their bands and sent them on their way. This confused them quite awhile till they realized that they had actually been entered into the rally without even being on the list and since they're not on the list, whatever Gumball rules that it had were not their problems anymore thus instead of having the idea of just filming short, secret films, they went fully committed and did a whole god damn documentary.
And also, you know what? I say... ENTER! Enter it. You STILL have time to make a crazy ride. Buy a crazy '70 Challenger, stuff a crate Redeye engine in it, balls to the walls and drive it the entire length. Because if CarThrottle could do it, you can too.
James neglected to mention the amount of new connections you can make at those parties are game changing

Not so fun fact. In Denmark we now confiscate cars on the spot if they are caught going over 2x the speed limit or anything above 200km/t(125 mph). So I don't think any future run would go through Denmark. An Iranian man living in Norway went to Germany to buy a Lamborghini Huracán and when crossing Denmark had it confiscated for driving 236km/t through Jutland after having bought it earlier that same day.
And ‘ Iranian’ added what to the story ? unbelievable ‘Danish’ attitude 😂
@@marinerbc1 Did Iranian subtract anything from the story? Simply a fact and it helps to show how small and intertwined Europe is compared to the US. And what is the Danish attitude?
@@marinerbc1 Well. Just Googled it to see what English spoken news media had to say on the matter and every single news site had the a reference to him being Iraqi citizen(I misremembered about him being Iranian). 10:52 that Chevy Trailblazer sheriff car 🔥🔥
A few years back, the Gumball 3000 came through Death Valley National Park where I was working as a law enforcement park ranger. At one point I pulled over a Ferrari going 90 in a 50. The situation was pretty ridiculous. The driver of the Ferrari immediately pulled over when I turned on my overhead lights and patiently waited for me as I did a slow-ass, three-point turn on the two-lane road in my Chevy Tahoe patrol vehicle to get turned around. If he had chosen to run, there was simply no way in hell I would catch him, so the first thing I did when I walked up was to thank him for stopping. Turns out he was in a rental, and he had paid $21,000 to rent it for three weeks. The most expensive ticket I could've written him would've only been $450, so I used the only tool I had: I issued him a summons to court without the option to pay a fine. He had to fly to L.A. from his home in Europe a few months later and drive a rental car out to Bakersfield to appear before the federal judge just to plea guilty and pay the $450 fine anyway. Fun times.....
Ur an ass for that. Any normal person would have just fined him especially since he stopped right away. Some would have let him go n most would have given him a lower fine. Especially for only 90.
Honestly thank you.
That's a dick move wtf.
😂
Couldn't he just not appear and have a default judgment made against him then pay that somewhat increased fine?

Brock Yates denounced this event in a interview. And of course, he used it to promote his new event. 1 Lap Of America. Which is pretty cool.
