Martin Scorsese Wins Best Directing | 79th Oscars (2007)
The fact that Coppola, Spielberg, Lucas and Scorsese have all been friends since the start of their careers together, makes this moment all the sweeter
Only missing Brian De Palma. The 70s were really those directors breakout year, it was their moment in the industry
The former three went to film school together with Walter Murch
It's said that Copolla and Scorsese went to see a play of Al Pacino after Copolla decided Al was the best for Micheal Corleone's role also for Scorsese to see him...
With the "film school" generation up there presenting, it was kind of easy to infer that this might finally be Martin's night.
If only de palma were here This would be perfect All the movie brats together
Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese on stage, and Clint Eastwood, Alejandro G. Inarritu, Stephen Frears and Paul Greengrass clapping! This is just directorgasm!
+Boy In The Box it is, all absolute legends they are just missing James Cameron lol

Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, for these three movies, Scorsese should've won The Best Director Award, three times.

Let's be honest. After seeing Coppola, Lucas, and Spielberg as the presenters, was it really that big of a surprise who was going to win?
The exact same thing I thought the exact moment they came onstage
Was way to young to be into film when he won, but as soon as the video started and I saw them presenting it was obvious that even then everyone knew Scorsese was gonna win. Should’ve had De Palma up there too
Brian Lange I think the same and judging by his face, Iñituitu knew it
Brian Lange to be fair the Academy had been “a little insulting” to Scorsese for the past 30 years before this video is from (he should’ve won his first Oscar in 1977 instead of 2007)

Do you honestly think any of these people give a shit about the Oscars. I mean really, Scorcese has some of the most quoted movies of all time but people seem to think he is loosing sleep over not winning an Oscar.
SwagFondue I doubt he is loosing sleep over it but I do believe that when a superior film comes along it should be recognized and honored for it, films like goodfellas, Taxi Driver, and Casino in some respects changed the game in how we see film and it should be honored for it. Now granted his movies are just some in a long list of films that include 2001 a space oddesy, Saving Private Ryan, and Toy Story that were snubbed and I believe that many of his films along with countless others should be awarded for changing how we look at movies before him it was largely the goody gets the girl the bad guy is punished, they walk off into the sunset, his movies along with several other brilliant film makers changed film making at a time when it needed to be changed.

Scorsese deserved it the most for Raging Bull which was his true masterpiece.

Lucas Resende I'm not the biggest fan of DiCaprio, but his performances in Gilbert Grape or TWOWS are better than anything Nicholson's ever done, so I don't get why you're on your high horse when it comes to "talent".
superhazardz I'm not on any horse, mate. there's a name for that, it's called an opnion. as it is the fact I find laughable your statement about DiCaprio and Nicholson. but yeah, Jordan Belfort, what a complex and dense character Leonardo had to portrait there. what a huge challenge for any actor. I wonder how Leo didn't lose his mind between the emotion range he had to demonstrate on this particular role. it was not like the whole movie was about money, drugs and nailing hookers. and it is GiLbert Grape, as such a fan you should be able to spell it.
Lucas Resende I spelt Gilbert Grape correctly, so I don't understand the correction that you're trying to make. Anyway, to dismiss Leo's performance in Wolf just because of the subject matter shows some snobby elitism from you. He had to show a wide range, from drama to comedy (even physical comedy). That's like saying Joe Pesci was terrible in Goodfellas because of the subject matter, or Samuel L. Jackson was bad in Pulp Fiction because it's a film about people saying the n-word and saying fuck the whole film. BTW, I wasn't even talking about the films themselves, I was talking about Leo's performance in them films being better than any of Nicholson's.

And what contributions would that be? He made a good blockbuster and good coming of age comedy. There are far far more deserving directors at the moment such as David Lynch, Michael Haneke, Terrence Malick, Werner Herzagov etc.
I'm not a Lucas fanboy but as a collective, Star Wars has been very influential and in some ways changed cinema. Not saying the directors you've mentioned don't deserve one either.
Nameless Paladin Lucas changed cinema forever with Star Wars and has made an impact on the world of film that few, if any, other filmmakers in history have ever done.
TheGuyThatsAwesome He's a brilliant technician. But as a writer and director? Not so much.
Nameless Paladin His screenwriting skills aren't great, that's obvious, but he is not a terrible director when he isn't surrounded by people that refuse to tell him "no". His true talents, however, lie in his technical skills (as you mentioned), his film business skills, and, for the most part, his producing skills. He's still a legendary filmmaker, much more so than the others you mentioned (Lynch is solid, but I think Malick is the single most overrated and pretentious filmmaker in history).

Thank you Martin, simply thank you.
LiquidSwat Spielberg and Francis are defo better imo. Martin Scorsese is one of the goats tho.
Wow, this is one of those moments that just puts a smile on you all the way through. Overdue win for Marty who frankly should've won one or two Oscars years ago. Plus, look at all of those people who cheered for him. All iconic folks.
2:05 RICK!!! You know you're on that next level when you know the dude running the Oscars orchestra on a first name basis.
For a second I actually thought Spielberg was gonna double check the enveloppe!
Given the Oscar from a legendary director (Steven Spielberg) to another legendary director (Martin Scorsese) is just incredible!!!
"Spread out". Lucas and a few people in the audience got the Three Stooges reference.
It was great to see Martin Scorsese finally receive his Academy Award for Best director. The man has had such a legendary career directing some amazing landmark films, and "The Departed" is by no means an exception! Great film with an amazing cast! 😎🎉🎉
Damn the way they just roast George at the beginning. XD
The best director All time !
Naquele momento no palco estavam os 4 melhores diretores da história juntos.
i love how he spends his entire speech shouting out as many people as he can
