    • He moved to Connecticut in 2004, cheated on his wife with a guy in 2007, got divorced in 2008 and has never been away from acting in 32 years. He never lived in Hollywood, just West Hollywood where he practiced what he learned in boarding school 👬.

If what you said is even true (remember, news articles can lie) then it was completely unnecessary and it's actually pretty funny that he did all that and STILL couldn't beat a guy who was previously seen as unemployable by Hollywood. He didn't have to become obese to play the role, they just put him in a fat suit. These guys always remind me of Kirk Lazarus in Tropic Thunder.

    • Elevated him? No one else wanted the role. Aronofsky hadn't been able to cast it for 10 years. Who in their right mind would want to play a 600lb Queer who abandoned his family for a guy. Only Brendan. He did it in 2007 and paid through the nose to keep it quiet. This was his 7th time "playing gay". No acting required.

  • This was easily the tightest category this year, all of the nominees could have won for their incredible performances. But I'm glad the award went to Fraser; as he not only gives a brutal and moving performance but also marks a triumphant return to someone who was shut out for many years. What a wonderful comeback.

  • Brendan Fraser is one true inspiration, ever since I saw him in “The Mummy” For me, i was expecting that Austin Butler to win for his role in “Elvis”, but after watching “The Whale”, I knew that Brendan created the most wonderful and complex performance of a lifetime. A deserving victory.

I hadn’t watched the Oscars in years but I did this year only because of Brendan. So happy for him....as for the rest of the nominees....they were all deserving as well.   • I was at work watching this, before the Oscars were about to start I created a voting game for all my coworkers to choose who will win the Oscar. I was having lunch watching the TV, I went onto my push to talk radio and announced that we are up to the Oscar for Best Actor and I when I said his name I could hear all my friends clapping and cheering throughout the store. He has truly made a triumphant comeback.

    • I've watched both a few times I think Austin was perfection as Elvis. He embodied him so well. Brendon was excellent and had to walk in a huge fat suit. I'm happy Brendon won but sad for Austin. But I know Austin will get an Oscar he's young.

  • The Mummy is without a doubt my favorite childhood movie. If it's on somewhere, I always watch it to the end. That movie got me through cancer, I used to put it on every night before chemo and it was like a warm blanket wrapping around me so I could sleep. It wasn't until years later I found out that re watching the same movie is an anxiety triggered response to comfort yourself, because you know whats going to happen, the movie never changes. Thanks Brendan, you're an amazing human being.

  • When his name was called, I screamed. Then cried. I didn't know him from The Mummy, George of the Jungle or Bedazzled. I knew him from the very underrated 'Looney Tunes Back In Action'. I watched that movie almost religiously when I was little. I remembered his name, but never thought much else about him. Until last year, with the Venice Film Festival standing ovation. When I heard about the event, I thought to myself "Oh! Brendan Fraser? I remember him". Out of interest, I decided to do some research. I read about his triumphs, his hardships, but most importantly his courageousness, and his truly inspiring perseverance. Witnessing his comeback has been so amazing and heart-warming. We're so incredibly proud of you, you amazing man.
