The scientific method is an incredible thing. I use it to test if the Earth is flat or round, and to measure its size, with just my bike and two sticks.
Subscribing to my channel adds a drop of water to a cactus (named Sir Stabbington) in my house, and without that water, he will die. You can even go watch yourself water him in real time: kurtisbaute.com
This experiment would have been impossible without the help from Casey, Ryan, Jessica, and everyone at the Saskatchewan Science Centre. They went above and beyond with this project, and their science centre is fantastic. Check out this place! www.sasksciencecentre.com/
Here is the poll i reference at the start: today.yougov.com/topics/philo...
Also, I tested if the sun was far away or close to Earth. Its really far: • Lightning Flute | What...
And I did an even easier experiment to test it again: / 1036255606414471168
Something I didn't get into in my video but really wanted to, is that my experiment was different than Eratosthenes' in another small but significant way. His was done on the summer solstice, and in Syene instead of using a stick and a shadow, he used a well. At solar noon the light went directly down to the bottom of the well. This is the same as if a stick cast no shadow. Since he knew that this happened every year on that day, he only had to measure one shadow, and he didn't have to line things up like I did. But, I have bikes, planes, and the internet, so I can't complain.
Thanks for watching! #aroundearthbybike #flatearth #science

    • Just Believe they say arguing with a flerf is like having a pi$$ing match with a skunk. How close is your local sun which he has a link to debunk..did you watch that? It proves the sun is very far away. But unless your local sun is very very close (we know it does not move fast, we all see the sun, which is the same size all day and could not be with a local sun) the shadows would be the same within tiny fractions because at 140 kilometers he angle of the sun light would be the same...,again unless it is 10 miles up or so. It totally proves it. Also take any of the 10s of thousands of lakes in the world. Find one that is placid and on an overcast day, so you can't blame haze like other flerfs, and with a telescope, across a, let's say 10 mile width, if lake, show that you can see your buddy on the other shoreline jumping up and down waving his arms as you view with scope from edge of your side if lake. You can't and never will because the earth is a sphere. Also, check out the NOAA DSCOVR satellite at L1 showing a shot of the earth every 2 hours. I know you simply wave that off as fake, but you want people to simply take your word. By the way, I call tell you are a moon landing denier. That must have hurt when the reporter who captured Kubricks deathbed confession was found to be a total fraud. Why do flerfs go so far? Such as the short misleading clip of Buzz Aldrin. Your cult has no honor nor ethics.

Kurtis nipped the Sun distance claim in the bud, so the FEs can't use that excuse. The spherical Earth has plenty of evidence behind it while the flat Earth has nothing except unsubstantiated claims.

    • If I recall my flat earth model right, I think they believed the sun was a like a light bulb around the world that orbits over the world which is supposed to explain the time zones and stuff. Which means they believe the rays aren't parallel to each other so distance can still change the shadow length. They would claim, you could find the distance to sun that way.

    • sam waldorf - Don’t be silly. Flat earthers and intellect are incompatible. After all, the definition of intellect is: _The faculty of reasoning and understanding objectively, especially with regard to abstract or academic matters._ There is nothing _reasonable_ or _objective_ about a belief that is demonstrably irreconcilable with reality.

    • @@polite_as_fuck Lol I hate to point out the faults of your "side" because then you folks always assume I have a flat earth stance. Well, I don't have a stance when it comes to the earths shape. However, I do have a very serious stance when it comes to reason, understanding and objectivity. That is something you really shouldn't bring up lest I make you look a fool.

      @samwaldorf8777@samwaldorf87774 жыл бұрын
    • @@polite_as_fuck In objection of your unreasonable statement. Just as a FE has not been proven neither has a ball earth. The sad thing is when you just believe what has been shoved down your throat since you were born and you don't question things. When something is called a theory it has no scientific validation (it can't or hasn't been proven) And when you go someplace um say like the moon and then you say you can't go back till you figure out how to get past the (unproven as well VAN ALLEN belt) then you have not more intellect then those you criticize. I give you credit for trying to prove something by testing the theory but you didn't prove anything, if your off by just the tiniest by the time you ad more and more distance then your off by a lot. Did you ever measure a so called square room only to find out that it really isn't exactly square and usually off by 1-3 inches. It's also interesting how when they theorists start getting too many questions they start adding more (untested) to the theory to try and make it work. Just for the fact that water goes to level. The immense pressure that we would be under would prevent us from moving. And if air is so light a feather falls very slowly then how is it that the heavy weight of water is kept in place while it's all spinning so fast. How have the stars always stayed in the same positions through thousands of years. One minute were perfectly round like a ball. Then were egg shaped. Then were a pear. Were exactly is the undeniable proof of any of that. And then our speed keeps changing. Then our distance from the sun and moon changes. You ask why would the lie to us. Why wouldn't they. They know if they can get you to keep believe one lie they can lie about anything and keep control. And they would be those who are in control of the narrative. And that's not you and that's not me. Were just the little sheep ole that follow were led. Never be afraid to question what doesn't look sound or feel right and a round earth doesn't work for me. That has nothing to do with anybody's intelligence(learning what is TAUGHT) don't be afraid to test the teacher. You'll never know the truth if you don't have all the facts and you'll never have all the FACTS

      @121shunter@121shunter4 жыл бұрын
    • sam waldorf - I wasn’t assuming you’re a flat earther; I was simply pointing out the absurdity of your assertion. There’s certainly nothing wrong with skepticism and questioning authority, which is what flat earthers claim to champion, but they aren’t true skeptics, nor are they questioning authority on the basis of reason and objectivity. True skeptics are willing to let the chips fall where they may, as they don’t have a vested interest in where the evidence leads. Flat earthers, on the other hand, are predominantly creationists who are unwilling to accept the fact that the natural world doesn’t fit comfortably into their worldview. Some of them have been duped by KZhead charlatans pushing pseudoscience, but when you’re forced to reject overwhelming evidence by explaining it all away with unfounded claims of worldwide conspiracy, you’ve completely left the realm of reason and objectivity and have entered the realm of batshit. Seriously, there’s nothing reasonable or objective about believing the earth is flat.

So if you are that dedicated to science how can you prove to me astronomy science with its Hubble UDF scan is telling us the truth regarding 176 billion galaxies and or how it is the upcoming 2018 James Webb infrared space telescope is expected to find 1 trillion galaxies. I use yin and yang as a mental binary 1-0 compass along with astronomy science and the macrobiotic dietary discipline to reason how reincarnation is a process of Perfect Absolute Justice and Absolute Sentencing much like how we have imperfect relative justice and relative sentencing systems all around planet earth within various flawed courtrooms etc. I do realize how this whole fairly recent flat earth movement is a Marxist/Communist agenda [Agenda-21/Updated Agenda-21 Year 2030 version 2.0] much like the common core math etc is in order to discredit truthers etc. So if you had a way to determine NASA is being truthful regarding those space telescopes I would really like to have that solid proof information. Currently there are around 4200 religions on planet earth and currently I like to show how none of them are necessary to vehemently embrace or exclusively memorize, but how it is reincarnation fits very well with yin and yang philosophy and astronomy science. _KZhead: Jesus In India ~ The 18 Missing Years_ ... and or .. _KZhead: c2c am sept 2002 Ed Martin - Jesus in India_ The wise person *_knows_* that he does not *_know_* it all... however, the wise one also *_knows_* that it is possible to *_know._* *"A Complete Macrobiotic Yin Yang Philosophic Understanding Combined With Its Practical Dietary Discipline Is Timeless Universal Law. • Here's an idea; perform this experiment during a solar eclipse where the Sun appears as a ring (annular) or a thin crescent. That way, the sunlight would be much less extended and the shadows would be much sharper, allowing your measurements to be more accurate. Failing that, maybe placing an aperture at the top of the metre stick apparatus such that the sunlight would be reduced, much like a pinhole camera focuses the light passing through it.

    @astrosci8864@astrosci88644 жыл бұрын
    • I really like the eclipse idea! It's really neat to think about the sharper shadows that way. Unfortunately, my measurements were off because of the*timing* that I took the measurements at. The shadows weren't perfectly in line with the road so it was like I measured a squished Earth, if that makes sense (?). Would be easily fixable if I had a second day to try again with the same tools or if I had more permanent sundials that I could measure shadows with at any given time. Anyway, thanks!!

    @jacksonb8123@jacksonb81235 жыл бұрын
    • Kinda scary, but in Feb 2018, scientists were given the "OK" to attempt bringing the (recently) dead back to life by using stem cells in the brain. So in a way, giving medicine to a corpse is actually more of a real thing than convincing a flat earther that the earth is round. That makes sense though, a corpse's brain is already more functional than a flat earther's, therefore has a better chance of recovery.

While this experiment does work to measure (approximately) the circumference of the earth, it requires that you already know (or think) the earth is a sphere. In order for this experiment to PROVE the earth is sphere, you ABSOLUTELY NEED a third sundial.
