Reversing the Flow: Keep the defense guessing with your setting decisions

The setter has many responsibilities including the offensive flow that he or she is setting within the game. The flow is essentially where the ball will be going from the setter’s hands based on the pass. What happens with younger players is when they’re setting they are going with the play too often and the set is very easy-to-read. For example, when the ball is passed from zone 1 to zone 4, the setter will naturally flow the set to the outside attacker. This will create an easy decision by the blockers and defense to set up in the appropriate spots. The setter needs to be able to make a smart choice in delivering a hittable ball, while also mixing up the flow to keep the defense and block guessing.
