A wolverine cannot inflict as much lethal damage as a bison. However, a wolf can withstand the kicks and horn blows of a bison only because of its courage. Most predators don't want to deal with animals like wolverin

But I have to say this, a few months ago, there was a short video showing a wolverine getting away from a lynx. I think that was from Eurasia. • Your approach is completely uncorrect. I don't get the idea of speaking about ANIMAL REALM in human-like terms. No wolf "is or is not a COWARD (??!!) " - Each wild animal has to calculate situation so that it can survive at a lowest minimum cost. Predators caltulate the risk of being injured and fit to hunt in the future. No wonder that Wolveine can afforrd to be so ferocious at confrtations and paying not as much attention to the injuries as a coguar. Coguar is a predator whereas wolverine is nearly almost a scavenger (!!) with an enormous scent. The probability that even severly injured Wolverine still could find some carcass even under earth from many miles is more likely than the injured couguar woul hunt a strogn and fast deer.

    @tkk3852@tkk3852 Жыл бұрын
    • Wolverines will initiate attacks against apex predators that can kill them. That is more fearless than a honey badger defending itself aggressively. The Guinness Book for World Records is motivated by a narrative over scientific evidence. THE NARRATIVE: Wolverines require a large territory to live in. Wolverine territory usually contains valuable raw resources that businesses wish to harvest. Public interest would only generate more protection for the animal. Protecting the animal means protecting the lands. Big business doesn't want that. Many "field researchers" & politicians are on the business payroll. They actively suppress public interest in the wolverine. They have kept wolverines off the endangered list despite honest field researchers demanding the species must be saved. If people are indoctrinated to view the honey badger as the number 1 fearless animal, coupled with a lot of other misinformation hyping up the honey badger mythology - then there is less public interest in protecting the wolverine.

  • Wolverines are incredible and formidable. The North American wolverine population often belongs on the endangered list. This is due to human encroachment of hunting territory they need. • Wolverines are mini bears being able to grapple and hold onto animals while they bite the throat, face, or head. They use 100% of their body and tenacity, despite being smaller. This is how fisher cats kill lynx in their winter sleep, cling to them and bite the neck and skull. Being low to the ground makes it hard to get bites in and the fur being elastic and thick, offers good shielding and allows them to turn around to bite at wide angles.

When you're a lone wolf you just have to hunt yourself to feed yourself. If you get injured there will be no one to help you. • Even though I’ll tell you this much the wolverine, without a doubt is a very fearless creature, but they have been plenty of times that Wolfpack mountain lions and even grizzly bears has even killed wolverines, and there have been times that have been documented that wolves even do at times prey on wolverines just because you see things like this does not mean that these three predators always lose to the wolverine, let’s not forget the wolf mountain lion and even grizzly bears, are not to be underestimated either.

  • It's been a long time since I saw that wolf versus wolverine film in it's entirety. But the outcome of the full film left the wolverine no longer able to stand or walk. It was rolling about on the ground with it's eyes raised up into it's forehead and dying.

The Honeybadgers will defend itself against larger predators with enormous ferocity, but won't go after it to start a fight. The Wolverine on the other hand, doesn't just defend itself. It attacks and doesn't stop attacking.

    • @@tkk3852 Yes, and the Guinness book is also wrong - for a reason. The Guinness Book for World Records is motivated by a narrative. Wolverines will initiate attacks against apex predators that can kill them. That is more fearless than a honey badger defending itself aggressively.

Mustelids are extremely aggressive when provoked and are unusually strong for their small size. Equipped with strong muscular body, sharp claws and thick hide, most predators will avoid preying on them.

    • Actually, you are out of date, small carnivorans are not a natural group, the term is used for only those that belong to the superfamilies Procyonoidea, Musteloidea, and Viverroidea, Procyonoidea contains four extant families: Mephitidae (Skunks and Stink Badgers), Procyonidae (Raccoons and Bassarisks), Ailuridae (Red Panda and Fossil Relatives), and Nasuidae (Coatis, Kinkajou, Olingos, and Olinguito), Musteloidea contains four extant families: Melidae (Badgers), Mustelidae (Weasels, Ferrets, Minks, and Fossil Relatives), Lutridae (Otters), and Ictonychidae (Zorillas, Muishund, Shulang, Huro, Grisons, Wolverine, Tayra, and Martens), and Viverroidea contains seven extant families: Nandiniidae (African Palm Civet and Fossil Relatives), Prionodontidae (Linsangs), Poianidae (Oyans), Genettidae (Genets), Viverridae (Civets), Herpestidae (Mongooses), and Eupleridae (Malagasy Carnivorans), these three superfamilies Procyonoidea, Musteloidea, and Viverroidea are not closely related to each other at all despite superficial similarities, both Procyonoidea and Musteloidea belong to the suborder Caniformia, while Viverroidea belongs to the suborder Feliformia.

Its going to be trickier for a lion to dive down to the ground to bite the wolverine as they are used to fighting larger animals. If the wolvering manages to het a hold of that lions throat that lion is screwed. I would give the wolverine a 25% chance of winning.

  • Creatures like wolverines are masters of deterrence. Their attitude, defensive fighting style, durable skin, and the skunk-like smell they can emit have such a high success rate of getting threats to just back off. The only other creature that is even better at deterrence that I can think of is the badger. Even wolverines back down from badgers. There is actually a video on KZhead that shows two wolverines attacking a badger, and the two wolverines end up backing off. And wolverines and badgers often do not seriously damage the opponents they face, with pretty much every time I see a creature attacking them coming out of the conflict with hardly any damage. It is a testament to how tough and confident wolverines and badgers are. Though, if the wolves and other creatures were what is referred to as game like gamebred Pit Bulls are, they would probably be able to defeat and even gravely wound badgers and wolverine. The main thing against creatures like wolves is time. There is quite a limited amount of time they are willing to spend on a target before they determine it is not worth it. However, game animals such as Pit Bulls have half an hour to an hour before they would consider calling something quits. As the ASPCA states, fights with Pit Bulls can last several hours. Imagine a timber wolf with the same level of determination as a Pit Bull. The wolf already has the endurance and power. But while a Pit Bull has endurance and power, it also has the determination to use that to the fullest for as long as its physical body will allow it. This is why there are videos of Pit Bulls handling badgers, when two wolverines would back off from a badger.

    • I've seen that same footage. The footage you saw was a mother wolverine with her offspring. She was poke testing the badger for weakness. All predators poke test. In the end, she decided it wasn't worth it and there are easier, larger prey to check out instead.

      @dunringill1747@dunringill17477 ай бұрын
    • @@charlieo3150 Honey badgers are misnamed because they are actually closer related to wolverines than they are to the other badgers. With that said, any theoretical confrontation would probably go the same way as the wolverine / badger video mentioned here. The wolverine would most likely initiate with a poke test and then decide there are easier, larger prey somewhere else. If it was a theoretical forced fight to the death in an arena setting, I do not think the Honey Badger is able to maneuver itself to bite off the wolverine's genitals (its only chance for victory). Unlike a Lion, the Wolverine is built too close to the ground. The Honey Badger cannot lunge underneath to attack its groin. This would be an incredibly tough and long lasting fight but the wolverine should be the victor 9.5 /10.

      @dunringill1747@dunringill17477 ай бұрын
    • Actually, the honey badger is not misnamed, the wolverine is more closely related to the tayra than to the honey badger, while the honey badger is actually more closely related to other badgers, badgers are a monophyletic group, which is the family Melidae, while the wolverine and tayra are both members of the family Ictonychidae, which does group them with the zorillas, muishund, shulang, huro, grisons, and martens.
