Freddie Mercury was a man of many talents and many different sides. The songs he wrote for and with Queen filled stadiums around the globe and have rightly gone down in history, but he also embarked on a solo career that took him from the clubs of Munich and New York to the great opera houses of the world.
He was the ultimate showman, but he kept his private life away from the prying eyes of the media; a larger than life rock star who loved disco, classical music and ballet. He was a restless spirit, a true chameleon who revelled in his own contradictions.
All the different sides of this iconic musician can be found on Freddie Mercury: Messenger Of The Gods - The Singles. All formats released September 2nd 2016.
This wonderful 1987 video, capturing Freddie Mercury's unforgettable collaboration with Spanish opera diva Montserrat Caballé, accompanied the very first single from the 'Barcelona' album (which was to follow a full year later). This unexpected and unlikely merging of talent took the world by storm, and this was the first of three singles released from the album. The Director was David Mallet and it was filmed at Pinewood Studios in London. The single was released in the UK on 26th October 1987.

  • Here in 2024, I easily yawn at what is considered talent today specifically in the area of entertainment. I hit my peak teen years during Freddie’s amazing rise to immortality. I didn’t fully appreciate him until over this past year where I was looking for sheer talent. I enjoy learning about anyone who finds their true calling in whatever they are doing. I have yet to be disappointed. In fact, I am amazed more every day. I certainly only worship God, my redeemer, my savior. But I believe it’s ok to enjoy masters of chosen paths in life.

  • Apparently Montserrat Caballé was one of the only people that could match Freddie in the showoff diva department, and Freddie has stated that he was both a fan of her and opera in general. Singing a duet with one of your heroes like that, that man was seriously living the dream.

  • Barcelona '92 is probably the peak of Olympics as a cultural event

    @Eliecerhdz@Eliecerhdz3 ай бұрын
    • What's also worth noting is that, contrary to some other cities that organised the Olympics, everything built for the event is still in use. The Olympic stadium dated from 1929, and FC Barcelona currently play there. The swimming pool is still in use, and the Olympic Village is now an up-market residential area. There's very much a before and an after 1992 in Barcelona. In case you're wondering, we took a bus tour yesterday, and this was all explained. Woke up in Ciutat Vella this morning, to the sound of birdsong, and arrived from El Prat just a couple of hours ago.

Freddy said that Monstserrat "IS music", and I have no doubt that this is true for both of them. If only they had recorded more-- Freddy in opera and Caballe in pop music. For them, It's like turning on a faucet, and the music pours out.

    • @@ricards5070 1st written correctly would be: She is A Catalan not a Spanish SINGER (singuer don’t exist in English, some respect). 2nd you don't know English. 3rd the comment did not refer to her city or what you may think is a nationality, he referred to her COUNTRY AND FROM WHAT I KNOW AND EVERYBODY KNOWS (EXCEPT FOR YOU ILLITERATE) IS SPAIN.

  • Montserrat Caballe - is the voice of an angel. Throughout her career, she has performed with some of the biggest names in lyrical singing. The Duo with Freddie Mercury, released in Barcelona in 1987, became the anthem of the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe - Barcelona forever ! Eternal memory. . .🙏❤🙏
