Loved this video ❤️ Being an aspiring woodworker, using limiting tools and an unconditioned barn space, I loved watching the two of you make the most with what you have. • Tough choice. Both cabinets excel in their own ways. John’s Boomer cabinet touts the classic rustic look screaming all sorts of characters with its many shades of brown yet very functional! Jon’s Millennial Jukebox is more elegant, chic with perfect proportions. I like both but if I’d have to pick a winner - it’s still the boomer cabinet only because I just like the rustic shaker style just a tad more! Overall- great video! Love the camaraderie between you!

As a Gen-X just starting to get into woodworking (decided to finally build a bass from scratch that I’ve wanted to do for 35 years) I find myself planted directly between you too - somewhere between wanting to get every cut perfect and use every new tool I can get my hands on - and just getting it done with whatever I have around. I hope you two continue to build together. It’s inspiring and nice to see the contrast between your styles.

  • It is amazing what a person can build out of wood if they learn the basics. I took a 3-day hand tools carpentry class at a school that focuses on old methods and skills. Several years later, I needed to build a barn for my goats: 12ft x 24ft. I did all the work by myself - a 65 year old female who had used my carpentry skills some but never to design and build such a large project. There was only one problem I had and ended up getting professionals to fix it was the tin roof. The roof sloped 3 inches across the narrow side of the building for rain run off. I tried to do it myself but had to call in professionals because my roof leaked and all the solutions I got from other builders didn't work. In less than 4 hours, the 2 men took the old tin roof off, put down 2 × 6s on top of my ceiling rafters and used longer sheets of tin. No more leaks. I used battery powered drill, hammer drill (fantastic toy - I didn't even know they existed), and circular saw. All of them cut through the 2×6s and the Smartboard I used as siding. I now just have to build the 2 dutch doors and and other 4 stalls on the other side. I had to wait for the building to dry out well after the leaks and to give my shoulders a rest from using the power tools. The goats love it and I have used it several times for first time goat moms to give birth in. The are protected from weather and predators. Thank you for encouraging everyone to stretch their imagination and built neat stuff!

  • Love this content. I used to have a neighbor named Bill who was a guy in his late 70s who restored airplanes at a local museum in his retirement. And he would bring me welding projects to work on for the planes. It was great having him as a neighbor. He also had every type of drillbit and random miscellaneous screw you could ever imagine so whenever I needed something I would just go next-door go to his garage and start rifling through his bins. It was great.

  • It is so amazing to see an older man enjoy making something to such extend. Real inspiration for the youngsters out here. You don't need much, just find good material, and 50% of the job is done

  • During the video I was more inclined to your cabinet, younger John. But the reveal of finished products immediately changed my mind. True, yours look more polished and is, by all means, piece of furniture. But older John's one seems to have soul. I genuinely like that.

  • Your neighbor is awesome!!!! More please!!! CHALLENGE: Young John uses pallets/neighbor John uses high quality wood. Is there a way to build him a shop table that rolls out of the shed? And collapses when not in use?
