As a Texan, I can say that BBQ is **really** popular. But, I don’t care if it originated in Texas or not, Texans absolutely cannot get enough of their pecan pie. It’s sweet, full of cinnamon, and of course, pecans. It’s absolutely amazing and I’m really disappointed that they didn’t add it because it’s literally our state dessert.
They did at least go over it in their "50 Favorite Desserts" list.
This channel also did a list of the most popular DESSERT in each state and they chose Pecan Pie for Texas, so maybe that's why they didn't pick it here, too?
I can't wait to go to Texas for the first time! Putting all this on my bucket list of food to try from every state, the BBQ from Texas sounds legendary!

Coffee may be the most common thing in Washington, but we also have a massive amount of apple themed foods in the eastern parts of the state, especially caramel apples around my town.
DC? DC doesn't care about apples 😂 Sure, we have Candy apples around Valentines and apple pie in the grocery stores but nobody cares about it... not in DC.

I'm from MD and can confirm our love of blue crabs, albeit most people I know would rather get a dozen steamed crabs and pick it themselves than get a crabcake just because picking crabs on the bay is a fun nostalgic activity. I suppose crab cakes are usually preferred by tourists/people who want to stay clean/'civilized' meals haha. Seriously though, if you come to MD in the summer, go to Cantlers or Mike's crab house near the bay bridge, you wont be dissapointed
When I was teaching in Virginia we'd send someone to MD on the Saturday after summer closing and get two bushels of crabs. Had to bring your own picks. Also had a keg of beer. Heaven.
I always catch crab down at the Chesapeake bay

I can confirm, we love crab cakes. I didn't even realize how good we had it until I ordered it elsewhere and realized other states can't cook it at all. Most accurate list I've seen yet.
I get so suspicious whenever i go out of state and see anything crab on a menu 😂
Not sure what state is crab cakes but in Puget sound we love to use Red rock crab (or Dungeness). Some of the pieces have to be broken up or they will be to large. The recipe may have been east coast, not sure where it originated.
Our family moved to WA State from MN back in 1977 after nearly 10 years of living there. I was only 2 years old. But, grew up on tater tot casserole. I was told it was one of the many recipes my mom took with her from MN. And, so it explains it as a MN favorite food.

Born and raised in SC. Never had a low country boil. I thought it'd be shrimp and grits. It doesn't look bad, but probably something you'd find more on the coast (specifically Charleston) than inner state. And I've noticed NC is more known for their vinegar based sauce🤢 than their tomato based (used to work for a BBQ restaurant, so that's just my experience from out-of-towners).
I’ve visited Charleston, SC sooo many times and have never heard of a low country boil. I was expecting coconut shrimp or something like that.
Hello Raina
As a South Carolinian, it's worth it. It's a tradition used for events, gatherings or celebrations from what I see. Best part is the crab or shrimp!!
From Eastern NC and I absolutely love our pork BBQ and slaw, and the BBQ sauce we have in the east too.
shrimp n grits is the best thing to ever come out of SC. and yeah, as a NC resident we def have more vinegar than tomato based sauce

I'm from Tennessee and frankly I'm quite disappointed y'all put Memphis Ribs over Nashville Hot Chicken. It's literally our staple food at this point considering how big Hot Chicken has gotten.
I was also surprised. A lot of states have other items that could've made the cut. I live in Illinois and the Chicago hot dog or Italian beef could've made the cut. South Carolina could've been barbecue with gold sauce. Utah could've been fry sauce. Personally, I like both Nashville hot chicken and Memphis-style ribs. I'm sure that most of the other states have other well-known foods that could've made the cut.
@@nickp1091 That gold (mustard) BBQ sauce is what I miss with my BBQ chicken.

South Carolina person here. Although it's not my favorite, I can understand picking Low Country boil, even though it's probably not as specific to SC as it is to the coastal southeast US. However, I do feel like grits could have been a better contender. Not shrimp and grits - as far as I'm aware, that's just a very regional specific dish that's sold in the beach town restaurants. Just plain, regular grits. That stuff is great. Sure, a lot of southern states eat grits, but it just feels more representative of the whole state than Low Country boil.

Californian here. Pretty sure most Californians wouldn't agree with avocado. Each region has its own specialty, but In-n-out burgers and burritos are pretty ubiquitous and beloved across the state (could also make an argument for wine as a high-end state favorite). Yes we like avocados, but we grow all kinds of produce, including 90%+ of America's almonds, figs, olives, kiwis, dates, pistachios, walnuts, etc.

Yeah. That would be like making Wisconsin's state food beer. Yes, Wisconsin might be known for its breweries (I mean, their baseball team's called the Brewers), but people across the country drink beer, and beer's brewed across the country and across the world. Same for Californian avocados: Avocados are enjoyed across the country and sold in supermarkets across the country. For comparison, something like the Sonoran dog of Arizona or Chicago's deep dish pizza are local staples that aren't found throughout the country.

@@naejin Thank you. It definitely is the Coney Dog. These people are way off.
I haven’t had Mackinac fudge in a while I miss it too😔
From New Jersey but don't like candy, let alone salt water taffy.
I definitely thought they would say the Coney Dog but maybe that's just for us in the southeastern part of the state. that fudge is amazing though. I haven't been to Mackinac Island in years. Frankenmuth fudge is great too.
while i can appreciate everything presented here, cinnamon rolls *with* chili is a definite pass
Don't knock it till you try. U have sweet to help with the heat. Also who doesn't like have dinner and dessert at the same time.
Some premade chili seasonings have cinnamon in it which is why it pairs so well
Ooo you are missing out. It's so good. Sweet and spicy paired beautifully.
The bitterness plays well with the sweet. This is why cocoa works well with sweet.
It’s the bomb, they aren’t mixed together it’s just eaten as a meal
Loved it thanks
Looks so good!😁
As a European who loves Italian-style pizza, one of my culinary dreams is to travel to New York to try their pizza, but also to Chicago to try the deep dish. One awesome thing about the USA being so big and so diverse is that you can find literally every type of cuisine there, both genuine and Americanized.
That place is a dump
yo man u can just like. have a new york style pizza. i know its sentimental to u, but the pizzas in new york can be made anywhere on earth exactly the same
Dream bigger, my friend. Neither of those pizzas are worthy of a trip across the pond.
I had Chicago deep dish a week ago for the first time, in Chicago!! It was really good! More of a Stromboli with sauce on top in terms of taste/ feel. I had bell peppers and mushrooms and ham and pepperoni.
They're both awesome dishes, but they're so popular over here that you can get them in pretty much any city. Nicer cities.
Coffee isn't food but I can't argue, someone saying "coffee is gross" in Washington is asking to be glared at.
Exactly what I wanted to say - coffee isn't food. Washington always gets shortchanged in these sort of lists, but to be fair, we don't really have a specific state dish here.
Seattle dogs for Washington, like wth
@@Ambrosia.apples From the East Coast, I can say Washington oysters and cherries are amazing. And raw oysters are a dish themselves.
@@Ambrosia.apples We are quite known for our salmon and other seafood. as well as our apples and the largest producer of Rhubarb in the US So right there is at LEAST ONE meal AND dessert. Besides Coffee these people just didn't do any research.
We had a Maid-Rite across the street from us. Summers were spent listening to “Welcome to Maid-Rite. May I take your order, please” through the open Windows. It sure was handy on days when I didn’t feel up to cooking.
Majority of these look really healthy and delicious, especially the seafood platters
“Paper thin” Them mfking dumplings are thiccer than me
When I see dumplings I think of this kzhead.info/sun/nbZwm8mvZ6mOnHk/bejne.html
That's because dumplings are ball shaped so yeah they are relatively paper thin lol, go back to not being remembered by korra lmao
I was thinking the same thing, they were brick thick lol
@@daddykarlmarx6183 someone is butthurt
@@daddykarlmarx6183 Dumplings come in two kinds: slippery and drop. The slippery ones are basically soft noodles, made by rolling out and cutting a soft noodle dough. The round ones are drop dumplings, made by dropping in spoonfuls of thick batter. Both are traditional.
Most iconic food in every state. Nevada: C O N S U M E E V E R Y T H I N G
That's why half our population has a gravitational pull
I tried clam chowder at every single restaurant I’ve been to in Massachusetts and “Bell In Hand Tavern” in Boston has the best chowder out of all of them and “Rockafellas” in Salem is a very close second! Highly recommend
Hello Hannah How are you doing today?
Very nice recipe sharing
Who the hell in their right mind invented the "Chilli with Cinnamon roll"? I mean HOW!!???
Probably someone really, really high
Snapps64 I figured poverty pushed that coupling. 🤷🏿♀️😂
Or maybe an accidental physical push?
@@IAmTheStig32 I think a pregnant woman invented this.
It's a midwest thing

Idaho: They produce the most potatoes!
As a New York person myself it’s because it’s always snowing that gives that crust a fresh feel
as a Minnesotan, I can confirm that tator tot hotdish is huge here. Every family seems to have their own recipe, and can even be found at gas stations that serve hot food
I grew up in Minnesota, and I've literally never seen tater tot hot dish
Tater tot hot dish is the best.
The food in this list perfectly represents the USA as a whole: some are “Yum”, while others are “Eww”.
4:58 they're fine separate, but as soon as that cinnamon roll touches that chilli, I'm out
the perfect combination to get diarrhea 😎😈
Damn bro what you got against cinnamon >:(
You even from Nebraska? It is a very good combo. Ever heard of Runza? If so, go there and get the cinnamon roll and chilli and talk to me then.
I like rubens better here
Deuces ✌️
Well😀, if there’s a Canadian equivalent👨🍳, I would choose: British Columbia: Nanaimo Bars Alberta: Ginger Beef Saskatchewan: Saskatoon berry pie Manitoba: Pemmican Ontario: Butter Tarts Quebec: Poutine New Brunswick: Fiddleheads P.E.I. : Malpaque oysters w. Potatoes Nova Scotia: Rappie Pie Newfoundland: Jiggs dinner and lassie moggs Yukon: Caribou N.W.T. Akutaq And Nunavut char or dare I say it, seal🫣.
How were the items on this list decided? Some states get well known dishes that few people really eat, while others get local favorites that nobody knows of outside of the state. Some states the choice is so specific that you're telling us exactly what toppings to put on the hot dog, while others get a certain item prepared literally any possible way or even an entire buffet.
49 states: so here's our food Washington: okay well ours is a drink
Missourian here, I'd like to acknowledge all the old farm ladies who were wonderful cooks. When l was a little kid in the 60s, in southern Missouri, almost every lady could cook like crazy. Seemed like they all made the best fried chicken. Brisket, dumplins, hot rolls, pork in every form it seemed, cooler, cooler, cooler, hand churned ice cream. The only thing better was to sit and listen to these beautiful folks talk and to interact with them. I love those Ozark people.
I was thinking that the toasted raviolis are a St Louis thing. But southern MO might be catfish. Or Osceola cheese!
If you were a kid in the 60's, the "old farm ladies" must've been born around the 1900's, so OF COURSE they knew how to cook absolutely incredible dishes with very little ingredients, they lived their whole lives only from what their families could grow/pick and raise/hunt themselves!
Lived in Indiana my whole life and never had a fried pork sandwich. Sweet corn on the cobb is enjoyed by most Hoosiers in the state though.
I really like your content
As a Californian, i can confirm the avocado game is REAL. I put guacamole on an in n out burger and thought to myself “wow this is the most Californian thing I’ve ever done”
I would have gone with burritos
What about all the fusion restaurants those are my favorites
As a Californian, I hate guacamole and the only avocado thing I enjoy is the avocado smoothie from the pho restaurant.
@@opwave79 as a Mexican born in California we hope you guys stop liking Guacamole so we can actually afford it. It used to be cheap until Californians thought it was the hip new food. It’s sad as Avocados are essential for my diet I can’t eat them

I would beg to differ on the Alaska favorite. I believe their is nothing better than their Alaskan King Crab. It’s fresh from the water, and is one of a kind. A must if you got to Alaska.
I've been living in NJ for the past 6 years and this is the first time I'm hearing about salt water taffy being being popular here lmao I was expecting it to be pork roll/taylor ham
New Jersey should’ve been a Taylor Ham, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel
for real!!! Salt pepper ketchup for the win
EXACTLY! who the actual hell comes to nj just for taffy?
I was hoping I would see this when I scrolled through the comments
apparently half of New Jersey are elders and tourists who only go to boardwalks

sonoran dogs are mostly common in tucson and all of southern arizona. you don’t find much in phoenix or other areas. also originated in the state of sonora, mexico. really good dish, but the chimichanga represents all of arizona
yup! you can find cheese curds in gas stations in wisconsin! dont forget to try deep fried cheese curds as well, like a midwesterny mozzarella stick
