Actually, his acting at the beginning of this special (1991’s One Night Stand) is nothing like his later acting, which I feel was purposely thrown and pitched. He is a remarkable actor and is incredibly handsome in the beginning of this special - if you haven’t seen it, see it and get back to me. Him sitting at the dinner table and then later in the kitchen…this is shortly after his bout with stomach cancer and he was struggling to make it, and I think he still had the anger in him that true fans know so well in the stories of his younger, more dangerous days.

Wrong and wrong. He says it multiple times and not once is there any 'D' element. Every time it's 'ge-RAZH'. (Same stressed vowel sound as in 'casual'-'CAZH-oo-ul'.) And in any case, I'd say 95% of Canadians say 'ge-RAWZH', as in 'barrage', so you're wrong there too. (I do recall noticing, incidentally, that Jay Leno, on his program Jay Leno's Garage, says 'ge-RODGE'.)

I love norm but can't get the point of the joke about his father forcing him to smoke
@amir.a.42822 жыл бұрын
Hi Mohammad. The root of that part of the joke is in parents who would “teach” their children “lessons” by way of a sort of extreme reverse psychology. It’s funny because it often backfired (for rather obvious reasons), yet many well meaning parents can’t seem to adjust this failed disciplinary style. It’s also funny in how Norm lays it out with kindness toward this parent, who was just doing his best. He understands the absurdity in harsh punishment, and the irrationality in trying to tell a kid not to do something you do yourself. He also understands the absurdity and irrational behaviour in much that we all do and expect of others.

Ouch. I could be wrong, but I don’t think he ever succeeded in a full quit. It’s hard for many people. Every little bit of good we can do for ourselves matters, but who’s to say what the correct balance is? It’s an onslaught of things to avoid. I’m glad he told his story so well, with some of its imperfections.
