  • 1. 3 different toys. Hard(chewing), soft(play and know bite threshold) and medium ( help engage with dog) 2. Baby gates set lower 3. Durable leash and good harness. Harness over shoulders and neck so they don’t strain the neck. 4. Krate training difficult but worth it 5. Bell train them for potty training 6. Quality treats- meritt biscuits, turkey etc 7. 2 Brushes for short hair and undercoat-one same as humans and another with fine tooth 8. Carpet cleaners for accidents;) 9. Solid consistent schedule 10. Good vacuum cleaner and robotic that does the cleaning by itself:)

    • You missed the MOST important one. Patience and a whole lot of it. It'll take app. 1 year for them to begin listening to you. Huskies don't run away but they do run and they aren't real good at finding their way back.

      @davebaker489@davebaker4895 ай бұрын
    • I advise a carpet cleaner with an odor neutralizer agent in case of an accident. Especially mail dogs tend to pee in the same place again. In my opinion time is the most important issue. If you can’t spend at least three hours a day on your dog, don’t take a husky. It won’t be fun for him/her and not for you either.

  • Everyone told me not to get a husky, and I wasted ten years of my adult life of not having one. I experimented with other breeds.... finally I’m now a proud owner, and they are seriously one of the easiest breeds I’ve ever encountered. Don’t listen to videos on YT claiming it takes a special person and blah blah blah...... here’s the thing..... if you treat your dog like a child, (take them places, do nature stuff like hiking, swimming) understand dog behavior (so you can properly train that’s unique to this breed) and respect that these dogs need to be a “true” dog (they yearn to explore, dig, run) and let them roam and run and respect their touch of wildness, then you’ll be a great owner. They also are a sociable family breed. They are not meant (any breed really) to be tied or left outside all day long. They have social demands. My husky and I have come to an agreement. If he’s good, then once a week, I’ll let him roam free outside our acre fenced in yard. I let him have his freedom (along with alerting my neighbors to not call the pound lol) and I keep my gate open so he can come back the next day. My husky is awesome. He will run our lane, and will not allow anyone catch him, and yet he is friendly with everyone, and when the next day he knows he better be on my door step. Hasn’t failed yet. And we are both very happy. If you don’t have the luxury of allowing your husky truly roam, then just make up games or activate their hunting drive (my husky loves the toy that chases a flag it’s a herding breed toy but he loves it) Lastly, my husky doesn’t chew, I’ve never crate trained him and he’s super good. Most huskies are extremely smart, so they are house trained fast. My husky has access to every room at all times. Most importantly when training, is this......... this breed thrives with reward training ONLY! If train by discipline, then they take it personally and they will run away or try too. Remember this breed was bred to have a independent nature, so this dog is smart enough to escape if they are unhappy. This is why you’ll hear “my husky ran 50 miles away and it took 10 hours to catch it.” This beeed you have to earn their respect (like I said they have a touch of wildness which is why they are excellent sledding dogs which the only reason why they were created)

  • You have to be committed to spending time with them. You might not have time for work and social life and a husky. So decide whether you want to commit. Not just for puppy hood but for life. They don't do well on their own for too long. When they are puppys you just can't crate them and leave for 8 hours. Someone has to potty them every couple hours.

  • I had the same baby gate and my husky could open the cat door and squeeze through it, even at adult size, she is such a contortionist. I had two crates with different locking mechanisms and she figured out both. She would lay out in the yard with a huge rope you can get on chewy and she would sit there and untie every knot. She is the best husky in the world though, very very silent, I’ve only heard her do the husky noises a few times in the 6 years I’ve had her. The first time I threw her in a river to try and get her into water, she jumps out runs right over to me starts cussing me out (in husky talk), then did a ton of zoomies to try and dry off. They are a handful but they can be an amazing dog. My sweet girl is named Possum, and I love her to DEATH!!

Simple dog psychology and pointers to make the methods stick. Great insight to the thinking of dogs. There is so much more we know now about our dogs. Fear in training no longer apply. I cannot say enough about this book and it's author.

  • Great Video! Thanks. Just got Indie, a rescue Husky of eight years old...it has been 3 weeks now and me not having a dog since 1997 both of us are learning and getting to know each other. I am amazed how intelligence and adventurous he is. Indie is pretty set in his way, all basically good qualities which is great for me...not puppy training and his sense of knowing that he has a new home since his older owner pasted away... I been told he mourned for a long time. Talk about AVENTURE, he loves his walks per day and me being retired have time for him all during the day...also he loves the water...if he had his way he would walk in puddles then a paved way. Eating is a problem I am having a problem with, not sure if it is the transition to a new home but he is touch and go with eating certain food, especially kibble. If anyone has suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Once again thanks for the video. David L.

It has been awhile since I last time had puppies since my two dogs (which are cross breed among shih tzu, maltese and lhasa apso) are currently 7 and 10 year old and I’m pretty nervous and excited at the same time about the new addition to the fam! I’ve been reading a lot of articles and watching videos about getting a husky and I must say they’re really different compared to shih tzus. Definitely more high maintenance care amd I got a feeling that it’s gonna be challenging and fun! This video has been helpful to me

  • We just adopted an older adult Husky who was clearly raised very well as his behavior is amazing. A few things I'd add to this from what I've learned from this amazing adult dog, having never gone through the puppy process: The harness is not a good idea unless you want your arm yanked out of it's socket any time it sees a deer or squirrel. Siberian Huskies have incredibly high prey drives, and a harness encourages them to pull. A Martingale collar works wonders along with proper leash discipline to avoid finding your arm laying on the road the next time a squirrel dashes across your path. The high quality treats are no joke either, my boy prefers freeze dried liver chunks. The only other thing may seem obvious, but is super important: a way to keep your pupper cool in the summer. Huskies are snow dogs, and even with really good brushing to get the thick undercoat out in the summer, they overheat easily and extreme overheating can lead to heat stroke and seizures. If your home lacks air conditioning, do not get a Husky. Even if it does, get a kiddie pool for them to play in (mine loves water) to cool off outdoors in the summer.

    @dhrekkin9055@dhrekkin9055 Жыл бұрын
    • I agree with this! Harnesses are only good for leash trained dogs bc all their strength is in their chest and they will pull if not trained. I recently invested into a prong collar for my husky puppy. We haven’t had to use it yet. He’s still little and has not pulled at all. I’m praying it stays that way!

  • I am so glad I found your channel and will be watching everything I can! Our puppy is now 11 weeks & we picked her up at 5 weeks as mama rejected her litter so all who had claimed the newborns were offered to pickup early if we wanted.. I thought it would be a good way to imprint upon her earlier especially since they're so pack oriented. She is a mix.. mama was husky/shepherd & papa shepherd/malamute/husky.. and I do believe the husky is the dominant breed! omg! I thought our big boy was a challenge.. meremma/shepherd.. he was a fricken dream next to this velociraptor! Please tell me she will learn more as she grows... we speak to the big guy in sentences & he understands.. he is almost border collie smart.. lol.. but man we are all loving this wee raptor SO much but I am sometimes near tears with the challenges she has brought & have been applying all I know.. and now have had to turn to new training videos & these are not working so well.. Then I decided to look up husky videos and found yours & wow! Right in line with the challenges of this wee raptor! Who, btw, doesn't want the chew toys.. but wants to chew the table or my good throw or my toes!

  • My brother just got a 3 month old Husky and me loving this breed of dog and always wanting one has practically become the parent to this baby girl. So I've watching tons of videos, doing my best efforts to research, cause this little oreo is definitely a hassle the past weeks we had her. Came across this video and love the content! Everything is explained so well and in a fun, hilarious way! I'm definitely going to watch more of your content and hopefully in a few months little miss Maya will be a well behavior pup and not dinosaur shark hybrid 😂😂😂

  • I'm getting a Siberian Husky and Aussie Shepherd Mix puppo next year (In 2023 :D), so this is helpful for their Husky side :D! Thank you for making this Video, it's very helpful :D! I planned on Bell training them when I get them, and crate training as well since crate training is very Important :D! I actually a found light up Leash, Collar and Harness for them, hopefully it works well but I'll also make sure I've got durable gear for them as well :D!

  • I didn't really have a choice. My husky jump in front of my car and I thought I hit him. Pulled over to run to him but by the time I open my door, he was running to me. 2 months and no one has claimed him sooo here we are. He chose me so I guess he's my child now. Vet says hes about 6 months. Wish me luck through the puppy stages

  • The bells saved my life and I learned that from you! My husky will ring the bells to go out...but then she also rung them to out for play lol How to do you feel about buttons for communication. I have been looking into this...the only thing is that she has excellent vocals and I dont want her to stop that because shes using a communication board...anyone?
