To Be Clear: The medium-sized Siberian Husky breeds are indigenous to North-East Asian tribes. Early on, the main jobs of these dogs were guarding and dragging sleds. Siberian Huskies make wonderful companions for those who are aware of and able to meet their unique needs. With a lifespan of 12 to 15 years, huskies can be lifelong family members. As a Siberian Husky owner, there is a lot you should know when taking care of them, things you need to keep track of, and things you need to avoid. In this video, we bring to you 5 things you must never do to your Siberian Husky.

  • I have a husky I bought him two years ago after my child passed away. I had done some research on the breed but I was sold on the fact that it’s not an aggressive breed. I had bought him for my surviving child who has special needs. Little did I know he would end up saving my life. After dropping my child off at school I would be all alone and its was as if he could feel my pain. I would cry so much and he would just lay next to me. I would try to just go back in my room and crawl into my bed but he would force me out. He would force me to get up, feed him and slowly start walking him. The next thing you know the days turned into months and the months into year. Every day got a little more bearable. I love my husky he saved me from myself.

  • As a owner of a siberian Husky I can confirm that my husky is the most atypical husky out there cause he does not do anything a husky would normally do. Super attached, can off leash him wherever I go, non destructive, very good with call back, and most importantly he is the ultimate cuddle buddy. Not sure what I did, but hey I hit the jackpot!

If you are looking for a husky be ready to put in the work but it is so rewarding, And when u get one and open that door of happiness be ready for one of the worst times when it's time to be closed. • I the proud mom of 4 huskies, a 7 year old, a 5 year old, and 2 four year olds…I’m also 71 years young. These 4 make 6 I’ve had in 20 years. They are all well trained to a half acre of electronic fence & have a doggie door to come & go at will. I’ve raised them all from puppies & yes there have been challenges, but they are my reason to get up (very early) in the morning & I love them more then life. Until my first husky I was a cat person, but huskies have a lot of catlike traits…guess that was why I fell so easily in love with huskies. My children & grandkids have abandoned me but my husky girls love me unconditionally…they make my life complete…what can I say but there’s no breed that can compete with a husky❤

  • As a Siberian Husky owner, I can attest that my husky breaks all stereotypes associated with the breed. He's remarkably attached, can roam off-leash without issue, isn't destructive, reliably responds to recall commands, and, perhaps most surprisingly, he's the ultimate cuddle companion. I'm not entirely sure what I did to deserve such a unique husky, but it feels like hitting the jackpot!

  • I have my first husky when he was five weeks old.. we really bonded very well. He didn’t chew too bad, but he did choose some things. He really didn’t make very much noise like I hear some huskies. And when I asked him if he loved me, he would make the emotions. he would escape at times and it worried me because I always heard that Huskies would go and go and go and not come back.. I was blessed with him. I would try to get him back but he would go around the vicinity of my home, which is out in the country. But he would always come back to the yard and look at me, but tell me I’m not ready to come back yet. I was really glad for that. I started training him walking and he did very well. But because of shedding so much my husband wouldn’t allow him in the vehicle. So I got a very long long leash and I walked them around my property a few times and stuff and tried to get him exercise. Once I got a vehicle, I started taking him to the park and let him run around and play and I had a female husky and she was really good. She never chewed up anything ever. She had one blue eye and one brown eye, and she was kind of ready brown she would be beautiful. They would play good together. They were pretty behaved in the park. They always got along with other dogs and people. Then I let her have a puppy, but I made the mistake of letting the puppy be born right beside me and I slept there because I didn’t have a proper place for her ready. But she is really good. She really listens very well compared to the other two they never did. But she seems to be more scared of bigger dogs, and she loves to play with little dogs. I only have the little one with me now and we do lots together. Huskies are very different that’s for sure. I’ve had dogs. All my life but huskies are really different. ❤❤❤❤❤

  • I have a very rare - Lazy Husky. Actually and sadly she wasn't raised with puppies. No bark, No Sing, No Howling. She doesn't know she can jump. After a year together she finaly let me pick her up without fuss. I think thats because I caught her when she missed a step and started to fall backwards out of my truck. She has no interest in ball chasing. But she does try to catch Carp in the local pond. She has killed 5 muskrats, 1 rat, 3 moles this past year. She is very quick when she wants to be. She just doesn't want to often. A permanent 5 year old child. She does walk with other Huskys often in no-leash park areas but will not run when they do. Plush Coat and 4 dew claws. Rare and a pleasure to be with and take everywhere.

He’s seems pretty happy with this he also lives in an apartment. He’s also a rescue. He may not be the norm but these dogs are highly adaptable, as long as you put the time in. Being locked up in a house is no different to being locked in an apartment. I know even with a house the door would not be left unlocked and open for theses guys as they would be gone by the time you got back.

  • I'm on my 3rd Husky. One thing you missed. Never leave a Husky in your fenced in yard unattended. They have been known to climb over 12' fences and if they can't do that they dig very quickly and will be out in a flash. These dogs are best for people who are retired and active or someone who works out of the home. They communicate with their mouths so they like to bite you to show you they love you. It's a hard instinct to break sometimes.

    • @@coleman19878 Not at all. Your new dog has been through a lot of trauma. Dogs have the same range of feelings that people do. She doesn't know you or her surroundings. Rescue dogs always require a great deal of patience at first. Keep in mind that she lost her home and the people she loved. It's going to be a few weeks/months before she feels comfortable. High value treats (chicken/turkey) can speed up the process some but again it is just going to take time. She'll come around when she feels at home.

  • I am not a husky owner but I did own a dog and as part of his exercise routine we were part of a dog group that would meet every morning as part of their socialising at a local park. One guy there owned two huskies, both male and from the same litter, adopted them after the full required time to be separated from their mother, paid for their healthcare in the meantime while they stayed with their mother (he had a contract with the breeder). He worked from home, exercised them together and they were the most sociable dogs anyone in the group ever knew, very affectionate and could be let off the leash, play friendly with other dogs, and always returned when called. They were protective but not aggressive to their adopted family, especially the children. They were easily settled if the owner reassured them. You HAVE to be dedicated to them and their lives. I personally would not be able to do it the way he did, at least not until I retired or worked from home. I just know it would be cruel to do that. Always know your dog's likely temperament and whether you can dedicate the necessary amount of time with them before you adopt them.

While more work than my local dogs, she is lengthening my life from the daily walks she requires :) I've ordered a harness and going to get her to pull me up the hill below my home a few times before I walk her so she's a little tired first :)

(Btw she really loves laying on her bed too😂) she likes naps, she always wants to go outside just to play with sherbet, (our cat) she will whine and cry to get to sherbet lol we keep her on a tie out while we are outside, her tie out leash is wrapped around a stump in our yard, and we will hook her up on that leash (so she doesn’t run away) she has escaped many times before but we got her! Thankfully 😅 so yeah we don’t take her out many places she will just stay in her room while we are gone, she really love to get our things (she just had my pants😭)😂 anyway she goes outside everyday she has her collar on, one time we took her to a park but she had a blue collar on…. And someone came up to us and we told them her name was Bella …. The lady told her dad …..”HIS name is Bella” … I was mad but didn’t show it … we kept correcting her but she said “he” I did not like that…but still didn’t show it, they thought she was a boy just bcuz of her collar……💀 and so now she has a pink and black collar on so people now get her gander correct 😅 hope you enjoyed this about Bella❤

  • Our husky is not clingy but she does like being around some kind of company. She has an Aussie Mini for a constant dog buddy and likes to spend time with the family and loves visitors. Other than her little buddy she dislikes small dogs and cats. She is fine with pretty much any other animal. Very calm but her will is really strong and when she wants to resist she might as well be a mule. She is my favorite blondie. • Have two very happy Huskies (aka, Floofs) here, on tan/red and beige, and one grey and beige. I think this list is missing one very crucial things most people don't realize before the get a Husky--they 'blow' their undercoat at least once and mostly twice a year, and the fur gets EVERYWHERE. Invest in a really good vacuum cleaner and lint rollers, you're going to need them (Bissel is really good vacuum, and they also contribute to helping pets as well). I can't get mad at the dogs, it's how they are. They are also very good companions as they are more independent than other dogs. Our Jack Russell is way more obedient and conforming than the Huskies, as they like to run and play more than the Russell.

It has been really hot here in Philly so he doesn't leave her out long. BUTwhen I come home she has chewed up something of mine. Nobody else's things just mine. But I love her took me 50 yrs to finally get her. Had all other breed dogs that people got rid of when they were old. Thanks for the tips.

  • We're on our 5th Siberian Husky since the 90s. (two right now, male & female currently 6yrs and 8 yrs respectively). This is a pretty accurate video although certainly individual dog personalities will vary. Our female is the most laid back we've ever had and she's actually a certified therapet through our local ARL which most Huskies can't do because they are two busy. Our male is more typical, once outside especially at first he's in "go" mode. When we're gone we let them have free run of the house and they behave fine. Indeed they do want to just be with the family and doing what you do. We do a lot of camping, they fit right in. We visit pet friendly stores shopping (Bass Pro, Lowes) are examples, they often come along. Go to a baseball game for a kid or in my case grand kid, they're content to sit by the lawn chair and watch the game. Huskies are truly in need of direct social involvement. Ours get two walks a day at least a mile each in length and that keeps them content. I feed them once a day typically, a mix of kibble (high quality), PetFresh chicken, turkey, salmon, etc., grated carrots, no salt green beans, or zucchini. The key is to watch over time for any weight gain or weight loss. The vet says you should be able to feel their ribs. Spoiling once in a while with a pup cup of ice cream is also greatly appreciated. Love and enjoy your Husky............. they're not for everyone but that's why God made many dogs lol, there's a breed for you out there.

On our daily walks he is on a extended lead half way through our 90min walk . Then a short lead then he walks close to me . He knows what he has to do . But easily distracted 😅😅

  • One thing you forgot to mention is when you have a husky you have to establish dominance I've never had a dog that I had to do that before until I got this husky but it wasn't too hard. First I crate trained him but after he learned that I wasn't abandoning him now I don't even think about it he has free roam and he's very well behaved. Also in the beginning he ran away like you say but finally talking to him and show him that I would let him run now he runs and comes right back to me it makes me really proud! They're definitely not the kind of dog you want to leave abandon out in the yard or in your house Works eight hours alone they need more of your companionship than other dogs that patiently wait at home for you. Almost gave up I'm out in the beginning and now I'm so glad I didn't he turned out to be a wonderful dog!❤

I live in an apartment with three cats so he wouldn't have enough space, Plus another thing is money. I already buy food for my cats from royal canin and it costs a lot even for 10kg for my two older cats and 8kg for my kitten. We have a park near our apartment that i could take him to and train but there are always kids on the benches smoking and not caring about what their dog does. I guess husky is just not meant for me. But i really hope someday i'll have the right things to own one.

In addition I made sure the family dog had food which contained 35% and up protein that is coming from five different sources of meet. Equally as important Springwater or medical grade plus adding organic non-genetically modified bone marrow powder to the water which is classified as a high source of nutrition because of all its nutritional benefits. Won’t come to us. Won’t walk on a leash. If we let her roam the back yard, he hides to where it’s hard to get him.

    • Give him time. Once he’s more familiar with you and his new surroundings he’ll come around. He’s young still. Try a squeaky toy and see what happens. If he’s like my husky when mine was little he had a favorite toy he would carry all over, even to bed. Squeaky toys-he’d tear them up and then wait patiently while I testified the squeaky part back in the toy-just to tear it up again. We did a lot of binding together that way. Try and pet/brush him all the time and don’t forget to touch/play with his ears, paws and tail if possible when he’s young. That way if his gets injured or needs serious grooming, he’ll be used to the touch. Good luck.

    • @@someguy9042 I understand that typical husky prankster stereotype. I take my dog regularly to off leash dog parks that have no fence and I've seen other husky owners with their huskies. It is hard to get her back on a leash when I'm wanting to. When she's ready or has heard a loud noise.shes ready. If there's enough stimulation in the.park I'm assured she's amused and is not interested in running off. She's often come back to check in on me, when it's ok she's about 500 ft ahead but not far. I've walked other directions and called her name when she's not visible, and she runs back to me. She listens when I see her leaving the park. There are 3 off leash parks in the Bay Area that provide the space they need to explore and run around. She's not run off into traffic but it's a risk I've been aware of. My dog is a husky mix, she has been listening well. My first few weeks with her (she's a rescue) she was an prone to escaping. She opened the gate to the fence and took off towards traffic She was still in heat even though newly spaded. She door dashed her last owners all the time. She is an escape artist and has broken out of the kennels.in the shelter, into their clinic and then found in their waiting room tearing up a Kleenex box. They warned me. It's been a source of anxiety about letting her off leash in these kinds of parks. Yet she loves them. Otherwise she's a homebody. I have met another husky that had excellent recall with her rescue dad. So hopefully that is something you can master with your own.
