Remember the election is usually decided by about 7 states each time, so you just need to learn roughly 3-5 counties of particular importance within those states. • You obviously don’t understand US history. You might argue the concept is archaic now, but at the time it was a compromise between state rights. Not everyone could vote, so there were delegations representing the states that would go to Washington to vote.

      @dauferm@daufermАй бұрын
    • @@dauferm the archaic nature of the system is exacerbated by the "winner takes all" approach that most states adopt. Given that a high percentage of states are foregone conclusions, the election comes down to a handful of States and then even very small margins. In the case of the 2000 election, it was down to about a dozen electors in one state (and the Supreme Court). The electoral system is semi-functional at best, and there are many interests that want to keep it that way.

In that situation, were this new law in place, these would have been the results. (Not predictive). He's not making a prediction on who will win or how places will vote. He is taking observational data (already known) and is breaking it down. I've actually never seen him predict anything. He just looks at *known* data and breaks down *multiple possibilities* and what we need to look for in *incomming data* to eliminate possibilities more and more until we have what actually happened. He's like a sportcaster breaking down the plays as they happen and using past performance to get a better understanding of what we are seeing. Sometimes, he sees a play that is a departure from the past and he mentions past plays and how it differs and how it may effect what we see, but he's not predicting a winner.

  • If a 269-269 tie occurs, the new House state delegations would decide who will be president, 26 votes are needed. If a state delegation is half Dem/Rep, that state delegation would most likely be deadlocked, thus not a vote for either candidate. If Biden or Trump can't get 26 votes, VP Harris is acting president until Biden or Trump can secure 26 votes. Let me know if you have questions on this.

  • The House picks the President. The Senate picks the VP. Both have to reach 270 independently through the Electoral College. When the Senate or House vote, it's 1 vote per state. California gets the same vote as Wyoming; 1. Senators would need to be unanimous in their state. The Representatives would vary depending on state law. Their state could require 50%+1, 2/3rds, or the Reps vote the way of the popular vote for that state.

    @joshuabeardsley9227@joshuabeardsley9227Ай бұрын
    • So my understanding is that the new House members make up the state delegations so they decide who gets their 1 vote by majority within the delegations, 26 votes are needed. Delegations where it's half Dem/Rep would be deadlocked thus not a vote available to either candidate. If Biden/Trump can't secure 26 votes, Harris will be acting president if the Dems keep their Senate majority which is looking likely because Tester is looking good in MT and Kari Lake is very weak in AZ, Harris would break the Senate tie because she's still VP at the time of the vote. Please let me know if you disagree, I like learning if I'm wrong on this stuff. Btw, on the VP vote, ... each Senator gets a vote, like in 1837, thus 51 GOP Senators or 50 Dem Senators + Harris are the current VP

We must abolish the electoral college and choose our president using the popular vote like every other sane country on this planet.

  • Save us, Maine Democrats! If this Nebraska change goes through, switch your state to winner-takes-all so that Trump doesn't get an EC vote in ME-02.
