A reminder that Grievous was originally fucking terrifying. Wish they kept this up in Episode III.
I kind of find him hard to take seriously in this series with that voice. His current voice is so much better.
Spoiler: Windu damaged his lungs.
kartoffel Salat You forgot that the final episode of this series where Grievous gets his chest crushed takes place AFTER the Clone Wars series does. Grievous just has a better voice in the canon timeline.
Ben Merrill did you see last minutes?
@WILLIAM WEST yep. Cuz he was afraid that would be another one Jedi who could hurt his lungs. Unfortunately he found that guy😂
The fact that it took an ambush from an ENTIRE platoon, INCLUDING their aircraft, to make him commence a TACTICAL retreat really goes to show how much of a badass Grievous is.
And they had to immediately leave because if they stayed any longer Grievous would’ve monkey’d his way out to ambush THE SHIP
Honestly the best part for me is at 4:32, something I never appreciated as a kid. At this point, if my memory serves, we didn't know Grievous had any organic material in him. He was just the Droid General. So when he turns and reveals an organic eye, meaning there's an organic brain in that metal shell calling the shots and performing those moves, it's terrifying. Also the fact that the eye betrays no emotion. No glee, no joy, no fear, no surprise, nothing. Just Grievous hunting Jedi like prey.
Honestly I think it would've been scarier (for the Jedi) if he was entirely a droid. The big contrast in the militaries of the Clone Wars was that the separatists had quantity, not quality. The Jedi and Republic overcame the overwhelming numbers of the droid threat by having better troops, better coordination, and the elite Jedi. Imagine the concern the Jedi have when see one droid absolutely annihilate an entire squad of Jedi. Now imagine their fear once they realize that droids are mass producible, and there could be more than one General Grievous.
@@wrongchew3423 Which was what originally made the IG-100 "MagnaGuards" so scary. A mere droid capable of going toe to toe with and even killing most Jedi. +Finbar Brolly 2003 Grievous being OP actually made sense if you think about it. The CIS needed some kind of OP balancing factor against the jedi who effortlessly destroyed countless platoons of battle droids by themselves. It honestly made no sense that the CIS were even a threat with how ludicrously superior the jedi and clone army were in every way. Having a smart, powerful leader who could tip these scales would explain how the CIS were a threat; a role that Grievous was supposed to fulfill in this series.

His unorthodox fighting style is only achieved due to the high maneuverability of his actions. If only 2008 allowed grevious to fight like this
It’s a bit unfortunate that the producers planned General Grievous to be cunning, but a coward. I didn’t mind it as a kid. But now, I wished they made him stronger towards the end of The Clone Wars, as this would have explained how he gained the strength to defeat Shaak Ti during Revenge of the Sith.
The sheer terror and desperation in ki adi mundi’s voice when he says “shoot him down, shoot him down!” Is such good voice acting. He had just witnessed this monster brutally murder 3 of his friends and critically injure 2 others.

Same with Fordo's "Backup NOW!" Line. Like it's one of the few times where is a hint of panic in his voice. Not even when he was being overrun on Coruscant did he have that hint of concern
The fact that I felt worried for the ship and the pilot when Fordo called for backup says a lot about how intimidating this Grievous is...
"i will grant you a warriors death" vs "time to abandon ship"
"Jedi....you are surrounded, your armies decimated, make peace with the force now. For this is your final hour. But know that I, General Grievous, am not completely without mercy. I will grant you a warrior's death. Prepare!"

Ooh, good point. Grevious seems very skilled at moving faster than one can think.
Aight this just reminded me that the Reason why Taskmaster is afraid to face Deadpool is because he's too insane and unpredictable so he can't copy his fighting style which is literally what he does to beat people...but since that doesn't work well can't do much against him So basically give Deadpool two lightsabers and watch him kill Jedi for fun

This is the REAL Grievous. When I tell people that one of my favorite Star Wars characters is "General Grievous," this is the one I'm talking about. He doesn't make many appearances, but he's the best new villain of the prequels when he's living up to his full potential as a character.
Yep. I agree. “I love General Grievous” is specific to this version of him. I don’t acknowledge every other on-screen portrayal of him.
This version is far more in line with someone born from a littreal warrior race then the cringe dork one we get in the movies.
This will always be my favorite Grievous too, but given that every single other appearance is far less impressive I think we have to assume he just isn't this good. I wish they had done this scene with 5 unnamed Jedi and one council member, that would fit within the legends told about Grievous and explain why everyone is so afraid of him. But taking on 3 *master* jedi while they're backed up by 2 other knights? Even this Grievous should have lost, right? Idk this is such an amazing scene and such a fun Grievous to watch so maybe there's an argument that makes him the better portrayal, but a part of me feels like we're lying to ourselves.

3:51 is EASILY my favourite scene here, her expression is not one of anger nor sadness, but pure shock and confusion, seeing death right in front of her eyes and not breaking down, continuing to fight holding that expression and potentially beginning to have thoughts of "theres one less of us now, i could be next" brilliantly done in building tension and dread
Grievous was fucking awesome in this cartoon. Too bad Windu turned him into a bitch just before Episode III.
+SassySalt Man, fuck Lucas... After the original trilogy was released, it was almost as though he was doing everything in his power to ruin *his own* legacy, and it always makes me sad when I think about what the prequels could have been without his atrocious direction.
+SassySalt The problem is he already had that, he had it in Dooku! Just keep Dooku around longer and have Grevious be his attack dog like he was meant to be!
+VideoGameLova1 Because Grevious would somehow make the trilogy better? He would dumb down Jedis, so freakin' much.. He already does!. He's basicly 99% machine, there's no reason why every single Jedi wouldn't be able to Force Push this dude back to Oblivion.
+atomiicpunk A force push doesn't destroy a machine. It only worked on Battle Droids because their soo fragile. And as you saw from the series, he's too swift to keep down in one location. That's before his Space Asthma got bad.
zillafire101 Grab? If you can choke someone to death, I'm pretty sure you can hold someone down aswell. If you can lift a spacecraft, im pretty sure you can lift a cyborg. If you can catch solid big-ass metal objects flying towards you, you should be able to stop someone jumping around , etc etc.
Its sad. Grievous could've easily become the darth vader of the prequel trilogy instead.... you know.
I know, right? they had the best fucking design ever and This is what I always envisioned whenever I saw this almost insect like cyborg creature, with lots of arms to wield lightsabers, a relentless assassin. It's like they had all the best design ideas and forgot all the ideas with this guy.. Well, leave it to Genndy Tartakovsky to show you what makes action so sweet and a character genuinely threatening.
Who's that? The new producer?
Actually, Grievous IS a character that foreshadows the rise of Darth Vader.
Oof the clone wars grievous is very cowardly
Actually, if you look at his legends history, he WAS Anakin Skywalker. The guy lost nearly everything. The love of his life, his will to go on out side of kill every Huk in sight. Got blown up and put into a cybernetic body, used by his Sith master to hunt down and kill Jedi, all in that order. Grievous was pretty much the Prequel's Vader. And when I say that, I mean, I'm sticking to his Legend's lore. It might not be canon, but then again, after the shit that Disney pulled, it nearly destroyed my love for the Star Wars Universe as a whole. So, in conclusion; Fuck Disney. And fuck the people who made him a coward in particular. 😅
There’s something haunting about the glare Grievous gives to Shaak Ti while he’s wailing on her with his sabers.
Yeaaaaaa he gives off that "im going to kill you no matter what stare" i think he also does it to install fear into them as well to hinder their connection to the force

Grevious is just amazing. He was my favorite Star Wars character for a while.
Sha'a Gi underestimated Grievous, it's why he only used 0.2% of his real strength. But this time, he wasn't very lucky.

General Grievous is absolutely the most badass character in the entire Canon. Dude came from a planet far beyond the outer rim, has all the reasons needed to legitimately hate the Jedi and managed to become the master tactician behind the Separatist Army. The guy is literally worshiped as a god in his home planet, and with just few years of training alongside Count Dooku, he manged to become a Jedi hunter despite not being force-sensitive in the slightest. And to top it all off, he managed to create his own lightsaber form, combining four lightsabers, ALL STOLEN FROM JEDI HE KILLED. Dude is absolutely the GOAT.
and: „the party is over” one grab and crush ; D but that was Windu, normal situation haha 💜
“We must try, padawan!” 2:12 This was Ki-Adi-Mundi’s and his Jedi groups first mistake. Do or do not, there is no try.
I think the scariest thing about General Grievous here is that he's just toying with them. He's only using two arms and two lightsabers in this fight. If he used all 4 arms, he would've wiped them all out
Grievous didn't have 4 arms yet in this battle
@@fall_comic6985 He did.
@@ForsakenDreamer7 I'm talking about the out of universe explanation. In canon he did but because the character wasn't fleshed out enough he didn't have four arms
@@fall_comic6985 He still wouldn't be using them here, even concerning the meta. There is content created with 4 arms in mind about his earliest battles, and he still wasn't using them.
Fr? Damn aight can you tell the when he first used 4 arms?
I wished we had this grievous in the live action but the fact they nerfed him is just sad I wish we had more time with this grievous
he only uses 2 lightsabers in the majority of the scene, him using 4 was insane
I can only imagine a Star Wars game where you are the Padawan and live through a moment like this for your character to build up their experience in combat.
5:34 My dude looks like a raccoon you just caught in your trash can
Everything about him is terrifying in this scene, he’s easily 9 feet tall plus the style he was built with is angular and inspires the look of wickedly curved Africa tribal blades or the scimitar. Plus the fact that he can easily wield 4 blades is especially horrifying.
actually 5
@@Memelord1117 It's 6 in total with repulsors.
His toes are his weapon
Bro he s 16 feet tall here 💀
Still shorter than Anakin expected
What I love, the creator von samurai jack was able to put his style in star wars, and while being sometimes diffferent, it is still pretty lore canon
This Greivous guy seems cool, hopefully he doesn't become the most forgettable villain in star wars later :D
I’d say count dooku is more forgetable but Grevious was still very underused
@@MechaEnthusiast I’d say Grievous is under used and Dooku is underrated. Like both characters have really interesting stories (especially in the comics) but you don’t see them brought up often
@@medibirb6912Absolutely agree. Dooku is also one of the most complex characters with some morality issues (he is not as vile as Sidious, and he was right about the corruption of the Senate in Republic and that Jedi Order became also corrupt and forget their own ways). Grievous is also good and unstoppable machine (especially in this series).
Forgettable is the wrong word. Missed potential is more fitting here
Can we just talk about how OP this guy is? Come on. He killed all the padawans, took out several clone troopers and almost killed the rest. He would have if the gunship didn’t come in. And what damage did he take? Just a ripped cape. This is the General Grievous I know. Also can we take a moment to listen to the music that’s playing through this? It’s horrifying.
He looked like he was gonna launch up and slice the gunship too, his footing looked like he was gonna rush at it not run.
The crazy thing? He's isn't just simply OP. He's a smart fighter. Agility and reflexes aside, that is the genius behind Grievous' unorthodox fighting style. He's intimidating the Jedi by keeping on them and storming them with unrelenting force to make them break their guard. Moreso, he adds to it with his entrance, scaring the Jedi by abruptly ambushing them and stomping Sha'a Gi into the dirt. His unpredictability makes him scary. Dooku taught him this particular style to throw the Jedi off their game, demoralize them, and take advantage of their wavering state to cut them down.
If you can see he does unusual moves during the fight so as to not look predictable to the Jedi managing to confuse them and catch them off guard
Also known to the Jedi as " _Why do I hear boss music?_ "
Also consider the fact that he held lightsabers with his feet (didn’t once have to resort to the four arms) and he CAUGHT A LIGHTSABER IN MID-AIR
I love how Grievous is basically just posing in the end, standing in 1 foot and holding a 3rd lightsaber with his other foot, while we all know he has 2 extra arms hidden.
Gotta flex on the jedi master.
Why did he hold it in his foot ? To make it more interesting?

I honestly wish this version of Grievous was canon. The fact that they needed a whole Dropship to finally get him to run away is just crazy and shows how powerful he is. In my heart, somehow, I like to think this is the canon version of Grievous :(
Agree. I still consider Legends as the true canon to Star Wars, not this Disney bullshit with it’s sequel trilogy (true, current Star Wars canon has some good stuff, but not as memorable or well known as Legends stuff).
"Do not despair, we are Jedi!" The fact that you are Jedi is exactly why you don't have a chance.
They called him the perfect strategist, unstoppable, and his presence alone brought pressure to them even when he wasn’t visible. The old General Grievous was a monster of proportions. Let alone, a slayer of Jedi who were masters, apprentices, and legends. And then there’s the movies.. sigh.
I have a lot of admiration for George Lucas, but a lot of his writing choices for the prequels were incredibly foolish. It's like he cooked up a rough draft and didn't bother to do any QC.

What I like about Grevious is that he isn't force sensitive. He has no supernatural powers or advantages, yet he beats jedi. He's a better swordsman and he needs no sorcerous tricks to win.
Instead he needs wildly superhuman attributes and durability. Artificial super powers, but super powers nonetheless.
Imagine if all his other appearances were as badass as this.
Still gives me the chills 10+ years later. Single handedly fights 2 jedi masters 2 knights and 2 padawans AND swiftly killed like 4 ARC troopers. Truly a badass. Still my favorite iteration of General Grievous.

It took a whole ass gunship for him to consider retreat
Gendy Tartacovsky’s 2003 Clone Wars had the most accurate portrayal of Grievous. A ruthless, efficient Jedi killer who used fear tactics and aggressive attacks to overwhelm Jedi. This show is what made me fall in love with General Grievous as a character. He just doesn’t live up to his reputation in any of the other films. Wish we saw more of him in the 2003s clone wars show.
I genuinely wondered how 2008 grievous even got the job done, man out here losing to anyone slightly above Padawan level. Then losing to crackhead pirates, snail-amphibian people, and a rather unprepared Ahsoka. There's also that one exploding ship part where plot armor saved his metal ass because for some dumb reason, obi wan decided to warn grievous the ship was going to explode instead of being smart and letting him die. Too much plot armor, not enough evidence to support the whole jedi-killer part of his story.
Press Factory Reset on your phone, I dare you. He lost to Gungans!!!! Like how??? He’s killed so many Jedi but can’t kill like at most 20 gungans
