What If General Grievous Joined the Rebel Alliance

General Grievous was the leader of the CIS during the Clone Wars. What would've happened if he was able to join the Alliance if he survived? How would General Grievous survive what Obi Wan put him through? Who would General Grievous align himself with? Would he be able to assist the rebels to victory, or would his presence help an Imperial smear campaign?

  • I like the idea of Grievous being heralded as a hero and ends up having a slight Superman moment where he steps onto Coruscant and the people kinda "swarm" him and venerate him as their great hero. Imagine the absolute confusion he would be feeling in that moment as he's always been seen as a monster and never cared about being viewed like any hero. Now here he is being hailed as one and probably has no idea how to react. I can imagine though it sparks up some memories of his life as a Khaleesh warrior back when he was treated as the hero of his people and he has a genuine moment of "I forgot how good this feels to be respected."

    @jasonalcatraz5817@jasonalcatraz58173 ай бұрын
    • I mean, on Coruscant _specifically_ I think that is rather unlikely. Although it would have theoretically 'been a while' since the Battle of Coruscant, that _and_ the campaigns of terror leading up to it, in which Grievous literally killed millions if not billions, left the Galactic Republic citizenry _very_ scared of Grievous. Palpatine (as Sidious) allowed Grievous to become this deliberate boogeyman and Grievous didn't give a damn about collateral. At one point in the Battle of Coruscant, he straight up had wave after wave of Vulture Droids just doing kamikaze runs directly into the skyscrapers of the ecumenopolis, even as starship hulks were plummeting into the city-planet from low to high orbit, as gravity did the rest. Gigantic blast craters from exploding warships killed many thousands on the surface (each time) if not millions in such a densely populated place. Grievous disgorged literally _millions_ of Battle Droids onto the planet's surface attacking in all directions, seemingly randomly and without tactical concern. In a lot of ways, this was hugely wasteful, and played into the hands of the defenders. However, the sheer weight of Droid forces meant that even being deployed chaotically (on purpose, to try and mask Grievous's true mission to 'capture' Palpatine), they _still_ were pushing Clone and Jedi defence units to their limits. They were held at inner city chokepoints or on main bridges, but only barely. In orbit, the Republic Home Fleet had taken harrowing casualties as most of them didn't even have their shields activated when the Separatist Fleet blasted out of hyperspace, 4,000 plus ships strong. Hundreds and hundreds of Republic ships had already been lost, wreckage showering all over Coruscant (most of their crews wiped out and entire capital ships simply obliterated and turned into debris) When we see Anakin and Obi-Wan over Coruscant, they are arriving with massive Republic reinforcements and by that late phase of the battle, which had already lasted over a day already, the beaten up and bloodied Separatist fleet had spent a long time slogging it out in low orbit at great cost to their own, and their starfighter wings/swarms were depleted (even so, thousands if not tens of thousands of Droid Starfighters were still out there even when Kenobi and Skywalker got on-board _The Invisible Hand_ and went after Dooku and Grievous. Most of the Battle of Coruscant had already happened and barely any of the original Republic Home Fleet (if any at all) had survived to that point. Whatever was left of it, if anything at all, would have been pinned down in very low orbit fighting for it's life and with hammered shields and failing hull integrity. The Open Circle Fleet arrived and a _gigantic_ force in addition to that, of over 1,000 fresh _Venator_-class Star Destroyers which the Jedi Order wasn't even aware of at the time (Palpatine's new, private fleet of those vessels) And between the heroics of Yoda and Windu planet-side, and Kenobi and Skywalker in orbit, the depleted CIS Navy elements were effectively _trapped_ between Coruscant and it's higher orbit. Increasingly, the reinforcements turned the tide with their fresh and less battle-damaged ships. CIS warships tend to need a numerical advantage (3 or 4 to 1) to stand up to Republic capital ships, so >1,000 brand new ones suddenly appearing was by itself a force to be reckoned with even for the CIS Fleet as it _had_ been a day earlier before all the carnage thus far. Point in explaining all this being, that literally millions and millions of people were dying. Straying missiles slamming into high rises, warships just flattening entire residential blocks as they crashed into the planet. Revenge Of The Sith doesn't really portray the aftermath very well in the film (it all looks like it's hunkydory and business as usual. In truth, the city-planet would be pockmarked with warship reactor detonations, burning skyscrapers, swarms of civilians on the streets shouting for aid and food after their homes were destroyed. Sheer chaos. It looks far too sanitised - for the sake of narrative convenience - in the scenes after 'Another happy landing'. It's as if nothing happened. That was always bogus to me. Half the Senate District should have been on fire and a smouldering, smoke billowing nightmare with the wailing of thousands audible on the wind, because of the sheer scale of the slaughter. Clone Trooper and Clone crew losses would have been staggering, and the quippy, happy-go-lucky attitude of Kenobi and Skywalker post-battle, as in the film, shouldn't have really been how they were behaving (in spite of the important victory and the death of Count Dooku) In fairness, dozens of Jedi including some esteemed Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters, had been slain in the battle. They should not be so chipper and happy about things. They should be solemn and acknowledge the fact that Coruscant had barely avoided a much larger humanitarian catastrophe. Billions could have perished. Millions _certainly_ would have. But apparently, Palpatine 'got the cleaners in' and it was all back to normal in a few hours? WTF? lol And Grievous would be forever remembered in hushed tones, as the _monster_ whom inflicted all this horror, slaughter and terror on Coruscant. They'd never forget him, especially as the Separatists were further vilified in the Imperial Era. Palpatine was playing 5D chess at that point. He already knew how Grievous would be remembered, as a useful pro-Imperial propaganda tool, for decades after his planned demise. Palpatine could have turned Grievous inside out and back to front with a small gesture and expression of his terrifying Force capabilities, though that was just not the point of it all. It was all staged to further lull the Jedi into the trap of Order 66 and to facilitate the end game of his plans, regarding the awkward matter of replacing his powerful yet ageing apprentice, Darth Tyranus (Dooku) Dooku was _always_ a stopgap and intended to be replaced by Anakin, but still. Grievous served his purpose. He died when Palpatine wanted him to (by leaking the fact he was on Utapau to 'Clone Intelligence'; the cover story for the fact _he_ obviously knew already) I do understand where you're coming from, and it is a funny visual imagining people hugging Grievous and thanking him for fighting the Imperial military in a Rebel Alliance what if scenario. However, I genuinely think that if Grievous was found _anywhere_ in anti-Imperial factions, it might be a more, extreme group, like Saw Gerrera's. Even then, that is really, _really_ not likely, considering the specific context around how and why Saw's sister, Steela Gerrera, was slain in the Clone Wars on Onderon (by essentially, her death caused by a Droid gunship causing her to fall to her death from a clifftop, even as she was nearly saved) The attitude of Saw towards droids in general probably wasn't that great after Onderon full-stop, let alone adding the context of his sister's death because of Separatist forces. Plus, in Andor, it's shown that Saw has no time for the idea of the Separatist ideology, because he lists them as one of the kinds of people he considers 'lost'. His own more militant approach to things, allows Disney to magically cast the main rebel cells e.g. at Yavin 4, under Mon Mothma etc, as somehow morally 'above' Saw, though they themselves covertly greenlight assassination and terrorism missions themselves so, not sure about that one. One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist, as the saying goes. All the same, Saw Gerrera _was_ more extreme than most rebels (certainly more so than say, the Lothal rebel cell under the likes of Hera Syndulla and Kanan Jarrus/Caleb Dume) The idea of Grievous swaggering around in a new cape in Saw Gerrera's band is semi-hilarious, however, he is just too monstrous to truly fit in there with them. His ego wouldn't allow himself to take orders from Saw Gerrera, or anyone else. He'd want to be the big boss at all times. So I don't for one second believe he'd just fall into line with the Rebel Alliance command structure and do what he was told like a good boy. Not a chance lol it's a funny visual though.

  • Weirdly I think Dooku would be quite proud of Grievous in this timeline since he basically just cleans up the galaxy and see a somewhat less corrupt system rise from the ashes.. Rebel Grievous is such a cool idea. Actually kind of makes me wonder how it would've gone had Grievous arrived earlier on the Invisible hand, saved and escaped with Dooku then the pair play the long game from there. Eh, well I guess it'd be similar to this, only with an eventually recovered and slowly-returning-to-the-light Dooku and Grievous backing the rebellion. Though things could get a bit bad if Grievous discovers Dooku's role in how he became a cyborg, even if it was Sidious' scheme to make him that way.

  • Fantastic video and “What If?” scenario. Now I don’t agree that Vader would have gone down that fast- Greivous would be outmatched at first as he’s never faced the Dark Side, but they would have a rivalry where Greivous would eventually adopt Vader’s lightsaber form and strike him down. Even Sidious feared Greivous. He thought that eventually, if Anakin fought Greivous, Anakin would absolutely die… so Greivous would win, but Vader is simply too strong to go down that fast.

    • Vader is later on, but this isn’t Prime Time Vader. He’d put up a fight, but the suit actively handicapping him along with the lack of readjustments or proper experience would hurt Vader in the fight, especially since Grevious is made to kill Jedi and is very fast.

    • Actually, Grievous HAS fought against Dark Side users. Multiple times too. He fought Maul a few times in the Dathomir arc and did fairly well, he regularly sparred with Dooku in the original Clone Wars and some novels where he's said to be outmatched but not by much. He also beat Ventress in his first appearance in the comics. All in all, in universe, he does pretty well against Dark Side users. The only time he seemed completely outmatched was against Windu. There's also the Night Sisters that he genocided.

  • Ive waited a long time this! this will be very interesting! What if Darth Zannah was a Jedi? Either she refrains from killing the Jedi who originally comes for her, or another Jedi takes her instead soon after, assuming Bane doesn't find her or a twin of some kind exists. She undergoes training until she becomes a Jedi Knight or perhaps even a Jedi Master. Then, she receives one of two visions. The first vision portrays Anakin or Luke as the chosen one. She believes in the prophecy and enters stasis, intending to train them to confront Palpatine during the Clone Wars or the time of the Empire. The second vision involves Palpatine himself, maybe as the Emperor. Believing that she is the chosen one due to this, she enters stasis until the Clone Wars, awakened by the Force or some other catalyst. To fight him herself. To maintain her characterization as the Zannah we know and love, she excels as a master of Form Three and is proficient in Jedi Alchemy or sorcery, perhaps even both. I think the second vision would make for a better story, as training Anakin/Luke videos are already abundant on your channel. (Day 45)

  • Don't take this criticism as hate, I think this is one of the best written alternate timeline fanfictions I've ever heard in a long time! Especially for my boy general grievous, who I feel is the most underrated and underestimated part of the entire prequel trilogy. My only concern was the early quick and almost seamless dispatch of both the emperor and Vader simultaneously. You cannot tell me that the emperor would have gone down that easily... Neither would Vader. Vader would have used the force against grievous if he felt like he was getting overwhelmed. He does it many times and even the movies. Just because his limbs can't fight, doesn't mean that he wasn't stronger in the force, especially with him being empowered with the dark side. I think that keeping both of these key figure heads in the game for a little longer would have been needed. It was unsatisfying the way that you had them killed off. Palpatine was known for his foresight, and likely would have predicted something like this and would not have sent Vader in alone. He likely would have sent fake decoy ships in with the inquisitors rather than risk himself, and his pupil. As soon as they discovered that the empire was in serious danger, I think he would have just kept to his Senate seat to start making a new propaganda machine against these uprisings to try and keep more loyalty and more support for the empire, and keep them reminded of who their saviors really are. Idk. I loved the story and every aspect of it except for that one little area.

My head cannon here is that Yoda would end his seclusion on Dagobah and travel the outer rims trying to help people like he failed to do as a grandmaster. He would end up finding force talented people and in the end be convinvinced to set up new smaller temples and train a new generation of jedi more focused on helping the people locally. He would recover the lost knowledge of the jedi from hidden vaults that would help these new jedi reach a whole new level of connection with the force.

Being brought back *a second time* from complete bodily destruction and suffering extreme trauma as a result is an out there, but is just believable enough of a cause to get Grevious on his new crusade against Sideous, and leaves a lot of room for various interpretations on how he would go about it. Edit: fucking... phenomenal. Obviously this is a best case scenario for Grevious, I *REALLY* find it hard to believe he could defeat Vader, but given the timing it gives just enough benefit of the doubt that I can see the rest of the story playing out as you described. Holy shit, this was so fun, I loved it, please please please don't ever stop doing what you are doing or how you do it. Cheers 🍻
