  • I keep coming back to this match. - Final match of the most prestigious tournament (aside from Olympic) - Two highest seeded players playing against each other - Two highest ranked players playing against each other - Two greatest players of all time playing against each other, in their prime - Lee Chong Wei defeated Lin Dan in previous tournament (All England 2011) - Lee Chong Wei on a mission to snatch Malaysia's first ever world championship gold - Only one year after this tournament, the two met again in Olympic final when Lin Dan cemented himself as the greatest of all time (if not before this) - Very tight match, lived up to the expectation

    • Very well said. Too bad the Olympics didn't have a deuce, and the audio was weak. Camera angle also much more exciting in this match. LCW was very, very close here. He completely demolished Chen Jin (2010 winner) in the semifinals, and like you said, beat Lin Dan easily in that All England (worst I've seen younger LD play in a final, he didn't even attack much).

Don't say that Lee deserved the gold medal, no one deserves, you have to take it by your skills, unbreakable will, strong belief, and most importantly, by yourself! Super Dan won the game fairly, and this match had everything a good match should have, it deserves to be watched again and again! I really miss Lin Dan at the year 2011, young, good looking, inexhaustible and strong will to win! Hope Lin Dan all the best in the coming Olympics in Rio.

And after that he was only sad, but he kept his calm and stayed relaxed, and this is why the Asian players are good I think, because they are very relaxed when they are playing, and they can lose like a gentelman, and they can concentrate to the shuttle.

  • Lee Chong Wei lost 7 chances to win the World Championships and Olympics gold medal all because of 2 players: 1) Lin Dan - World Championships (2011 & 2013) and Olympics (2008 & 2012) 2) Chen Long - World Championships (2014 & 2015) and Olympics (2016). So sad for him...My badminton fighting hero...

    • True, imo he should have won against lin Dan WC 2011 and Olympics 2012. Somehow he never seemed to get that close to beating CL in the WC and Olympics but he would have been stripped of his championship in 2014 anyway. Tbh I don't really think the WC has held much value since it became a yearly event. These days it's much easier to be a WC winner than previously when it occurred less often. But he should have won at least one of each

  • LCW seems to have these moments of lapse of judgement where he just goes with the flow of the rally which plays to Lin Dan's killer instinct. For example near the end he continues the straight net return, when Lin Dan is just waiting to pounce on it. Other times, LCW just lifts with indecision.

  • So heartbreaking for LCW. It really could have gone either way, especially the last couple points where the shuttle clipped the net. LD really has crazy focus to confidently save two match points and then win.

    • Now that I watched this again, I noticed LCW’s coaches displayed so much excitement at match points instead of trying to keep LCW calm and focused. LD’s coaches on the other hand, were ice cold and only displayed emotion after he secured the title

  • The only difference is Lin Dan is master tactician and strategist. He constantly change the game plan into Attack and Defence then Base Line and Net let LCW to work hard to find answers. This is what Taufik lacks most and contributed to his downfall. He has the same game in 2012 as he played in 2004. LCW always wait allowing LD to take initiative. All credits go to Lin Dan for what he is. Keen mind , Strong , Fast , Orthodox(Diving) , Explosive and Aggressive.
