Good to see I’m not the only coach who throws it right in the gutter when demonstrating a drill.
Lmao
@Davis Nova here we see bot 1 in his natural habitat
@Omar Marco bot 2 is his friend

being a wheelchair bowler, i like the no step ways to do drills lol
Stay at it
You must wheely love the sport. I’m so sorry I had too :(

Been watching for the past three weeks. I had gotten into some bad habits. Over the past two weeks I've raised my avg from 195 to 198 just incorporating some basics and keeping some of your tips in the back of my mind. This is a humbling sport, especially when things go sideways, thanks guys for these tips. They really help at all skill levels.
As a girl's high school coach, I'm rarely able to find videos that I can use. Not having the speed/power or revs, it's difficult to translate a Pro tip video for the girls. This one is different because you guys made it so simplistic. I can explain that stuff all day and it goes over their heads...they need a visual. Not only did you guys give me that for them with this, but now they can't just blame me for these drills lol They like to think the "one step" is something I invented just to be mean...thanks for bailing me out! 😉😂 Please keep in mind how many young girls you have the potential to help with your videos. If you can ever get one of the ladies to join in an instructional video, many of us female bowlers/coaches would appreciate it! Keep up the great work, Brad & Kyle!🤩
Yes agree with you I am a girl high school bowler and it’s so hard to find videos that help me bc I don’t have the power like them
This is a pretty good exercise to get a feel for the release. When I was coached I practiced one step, two steps, three steps and then finally four steps. It also helps you learn about the momentum/pendulum swing, because the initial height and push off helps you learn about swing speed. I think I was originally taught one or two step in order to help me with my timing and drift more than anything... I was releasing the ball to early and drifting with 10 boards to the left while I walked, which I corrected. He might be a useful exercise to take video of the girls and watch the one step because it really should mimic your last step in the approach, so it does have more utility besides the cupping and release of the ball.
@@swickard1 JR Raymond recently did a series of videos where he discusses the power differences between men and women. One interesting thing he mentions is that a lot of the better women bowlers throw their ball-side shoulder forward. It doesn't allow them to stay under the ball. Hopefully that's helpful for you.
2 years later. Boys are girls so no need to worry about this if you are a liberal.
A good release always helps me sleep better!
Lol
Most underrated comment here.

Me too!
I bowled a 300 no step on my computer ...you guys have in real life with witnesses thank you for lesson........
I still have problems with spares sometimes but your tips in theese videos have helped me alot, i used to struggle to get over 110 and now im more stable and the results are starting to show. Thumbs up from sweden.
I've watched this video like 3 times trying to improve my hand position when throwing a hook and i finally had a breakthrough.....in Kyles discomfort about a minute in, just seeing the hand inside position and mimicking it myself drastically increased my rev rate and control. Thanks for this video, just subbed, Happy Bowling!
Thanks Brian. I’ve been struggling with hand position.
You should make a video on tips for keeping the wrist in a strong position to stay under the ball more
It's common sense
Cheers for this, been searching for "how do you bowl in a bowling alley?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Piylivern Remarkable Predominance - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a good one of a kind product for discovering how to up your bowling game quickly without the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my work buddy got excellent success with it.

I struggled with this bad today 😂 my wrist game weak
Omg he’s I need that my wrist is weak
Totally doing this in about 2 hours before league tonight! I REALLY need to get my hand to stay behind the ball so I can control the breakpoint.
Started to fix the bad ways and its really nice to have people in my locals that are very supportive :)
Great video. I have used both the no step and one step just as warm ups and find i bowl better games afterwards.
This is exactly what my biggest weakness is. Been bowling for the majority of the past 30 years, but I was never coached. As a result, I developed A LOT of bad habits due to being a "feel" bowler. I've been attempting to focus on my release, specifically hand position, and have been struggling big time. Like to the tune of ~30 pins under my average. This video has a couple great pointers that I'll try to apply. Thanks, guys -- keep up the great work and content!
Christian Piombo same Except I been bowling for 10 I quit a couple years in the middle of that but my dad taught me how to bowl and I averaged 190 at 10-12 then I quit and got back into at about 15-16 and I had forgot everything and got taller and I haven’t gotten back up there since by my dad hasn’t really helped since so I plan on watching these videos and getting my dad to help me when we both aren’t working and my main problem is my release for sure
Brother I am in the exact same boat. About 30 years of experience and coaches back in our junior days that didn’t know what they were really teaching us. These Brad and Kyle videos are all great in helping me get back into the sport. I’ve had to go back to the basics just like you. It’s unbelievably difficult to undo so many years of muscle memory. I’m struggling to stay behind and to the inside of the ball.
Christian Piombo I finally caved in and got a coach to watch me after bowling horrible in the beginning for many years. Those second set of eyes does help.
Dear Brad&Kyle Thank You for the Video ,from the Old Tourney Volunteer From Riviera Lanes in Akron,Ohio- On Timing & Release !! God Bless You Both!!!!!
I’ve been a one hand 2 finger bowler for years, and have been stuck hovering around 200. I’m practicing a more traditional 2 finger + thumb and these drills have been a great way to make sure i don’t develop bad habits.
Thanks for this video. This is exactly what I am working on and this is the best example I have seen to show hand position at release. Thanks again!
I grew up throwing rubber and my most consistent release was with my hand on the outside of the ball. As bowling balls changed to plastic, urethane, and reactive, I have had to change my release, as well. I have recently been fighting a tendency to yank the ball left and, after watching this video, I believe it's because I've reverted to my oldest release which is totally inappropriate for today's equipment. Can't wait to get to the lanes and work the no-step and one-step drills. Thanks for helping me, specifically, and for furthering this sport we love. You guys are terrific!!
Great video at explaining what exactly what to focus on when going under the ball
Great drills. If I try to ramp up speed (and or revs) I tend to out speed my revs and miss at the 3 pin. So control is a factor in my game.. and feeling the hand roll it, with it finishing on the left side of my head.
Thanks for creating this video! As a 64 year-old bowler, I struggle with many aspects of bowling, including my release! Awesome job Brad & Kyle!
This answer my question about the front elbow facing forward. Thanks guys. Good luck in Vegas
Showing exact hand positions is very helpful! Words alone don't capture what to do, and what the results are. Best wishes for success on the lanes!
Thanks, I have a tournament coming up and (I hope) this will help me.
you guys are the best.. funny. simple. down to the point - - thank you!
Love your work! You have both helped me so much!!!! Thanks
I love coming back to this vid - SO helpful
The difference is insane! I often get stuck with my thumb in the ball because of my hand position. Thanks for this video
Watched this, looks great, thought about it, prepared mentally to try it, poised before shot, focused, committed to it, went for it with everyone watching and it went straight into the gutter. Doh!!
Love y'all talking about educational skills! Great video!
Thank you for this video. Working on fixing this
Thank you this is what I needed now I need to time to actually practice before league again
this video is exactly what i needed! Thanks guys
Thanks for the tips guys!
new to bowling and this video seems very helpful!
love it. right in the gutter. I am trying to learn this and when it strikes it does make up for it. But until I get it right that does happen quite a bit.
Excelente explicacion, gracias.
Awesome vid guys! Thx! Clear and straight to the important parts! I like 👍
Hey guys! Love the channel 🤘I'm a newer bowler and a big fan of yours. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks! First date with my girlfriend bowling next weekend and it has been 15 years since I have been bowling. Lol. Great detailed instructions.
I can’t wait to try these drills out. I always have my hand on outside of the ball. Thank you so much Brad and Kyle for taking the time to help us become better bowlers!!
Ok, thanks for helping me think outside the box. I will practice the drills.
I bowled 16 strikes in a row at one point yesterday. Felt pretty effing good.

You guys rock!!! Keep up the great content :)
Awesome video and thank you for sharing
Great vid thanks for sharing 👍🏽
I learned to bowl from my dad in the late 60's with his Ebonite Tornado solid rubber ball. When I went back to bowling 7 years ago and bought a reactive ball (new to me!) the pro shop guy taught me the side release. Now, the ball is "dead" (won't hook) and the change in release is something that doesn;t work for me. I've tried. When I first bought the reactive ball it would hook no matter what I did. (Of course, it was a real wood lane house). I'm just stuck now. Have plans to get a new ball eventually but the local shops are slow ordering and drilling. The beat goes on, I suppose Thanks. Great videos from you B&K!
nice work guys!
That flying bowling ball in the intro. I felt that
Great lesson. Thanks!
Helpful. Thanks. Nice meeting you in Vegas this week! Stay funny!
Great video. I been out of bowling for over 8 years and have been struggling with consistent throws and getting the ball to react well. You have anything to help with bad throws? Such as constantly missing marks or pulling left? Part of it may just be the lack of muscle memory.
Thanks guy that was awesome drill!!!!
Great video. Thanks.
I use to bowl two fingers for about 5 years took me two months to use my thumb and got the same line and strikes again lol I'd love to bowl a game or 6 with you guys for sure
I know this is a year late but I’m in the same boat, I can’t get the hang of using my thumb. Any tips you got?
I would just stay behind the ball using my thumb and come straight out of it
50 years old. Been throwing a straight ball my entire life. Time to do it correctly!!
How about having Packy do a drills/techniques video for two handed bowlers? :) Keep up the good work Brad and Kyle rooting for you guys every week!
I am about to purchase a new ball and prepare for the upcoming league season. I am very excited. It has been awhile but I am trying to learn a better way to roll the ball. I used to two finger the ball and I got great results however I'm not very consistent. I am going to attempt to start using all the finger holes and releasing just like this.
You guys are awesome!! I purchased a t-shirt from you guys and i wear it to my league's and educate everyone that asks who is Brad & Kyle here in casper, wyoming!!!....lol
Great video. Two thumbs up
Great video. How do you change to a new release for a particular condition when your muscle memory is used to executing a different release?
frontier bowl in o’fallon lane 4 bowled on it today
It has been a few months since bowling centers in Delaware opened and already 4 weeks of Sunday night mixed league, and I'm still struggling with hooking the ball. According to things my dad has told me (he's been bowling so many years and knows more than I do), he notices that I am still 'spinning' the ball. If there is ever an opportunity for me to have an in-person coaching session with Brad and Kyle, I would not turn it down. I want to get better despite all the frustrations I have been going through the past few weeks. On the plus side, my average finally went up last week by 7 pins, so that's a small step in the right direction.
Was bowling last week. Young lady in the second lane over (distancing rules) was obviously an amateur, but had a beautiful right hook, from a right-handed bowler.
Ha, just noticed the Let's Go Blues! sign behind you. We were St. Louis Blues season tickets holders for a decade. I'm watching this because we are about to go bowling here in Boise, ID. Then I have elite hockey league later.
Link to the seven arrow drill? Didn’t see it. Great job on the videos.
Between these videos and watching Prather bowl my game has changed so much this year. Averaged 190 for the first half of the year and the last 6 weeks been around 230-235
Kyle was “blasting” his quads.😄😂😄😂😄😄😂
I've been in a slump for the past 2 months. I'm going to have to try to practice those drills.
Great stuff....
thanks, brad & kyle, I do struggle also on the release. I keep learning, I've got a question, can i used my plastic ball for the drill?
should not matter what ball you use since you are just focused on getting your hand on the inside of that ball my friend don’t worry about what the end result is at the pins
I'm a one handed, no thumb bowler like Tom Dougherty. I'd like to see more videos about setting and release without a thumb
The 7 arrows drill, struck from 5 so far working on angular issues right now so soon it will be all 7
question kinda new to bowling want to start league play i’ve watch must of you videos and it’s showed me the way the the line!! i don’t bowl with my thumb “the thumb has no feeling and not much movement” on my backswing i feel like i’m losing the ball making move my wrist to hold the ball. should i try a shorter back swing? will that affect my ball speed?
Brad and Kyle is a little tip for you are you a small hydraulic jack put some filled on the bottom keep it from scratching the wood and a little piece of cloth on the top and you can sit the ball any height you want when you're trying to do it instead of holding the weight
Buy not are you, felt not filled
Hey guys, thanks for all you do. What's your feelings on wrist braces?
I'm not the one who you asked but I think in the long run it's better to develop your own strength. There are also two other factors, the PBA ban on wrist devices and the fact that the modern ball release doesn't quite work when the wrist is firmly locked. Unless you suffer from injury don't fall for this. Even weaker players can do it, it's just a matter of getting used to it. Also consider that the ball would have to be drilled specifically for this purpose.
Could you guys do a video showing me how to bowl with the only way i feel comfortable throwing. I use both finger tips and on thumb i only use thumb tip. I start with ball low and only go back about parallel. On a 4 step right handed. Elbow is in i just bought the nemisis ball. Any advise be great. Also love your videos
look at tom smallwood he seems like he bowls like you
Great video
Kyle .. how do you like the pin down layout? Your main layout?
Man, my approach and release are absolute crap after 12 years... I want to compete someday, so I have A LOT of work to do... All that to say: I love watching that slide and smooth release, especially in slow-mo! It’s relaxing.
I’m trying to move from playing thumb-out all these years to thumb-in. I’m doing a lot of these drills you guys are showing and it’s feeling really good. My speed is up, but my revs are way down. Could you show some drills to incorporate into my practice that will help improve rev rate while throwing thumb-in?
This is me exactly. Dealing with the same issue of losing revs after going to thumb in.
@@billhudson2196 Granted I haven’t been to a lane in quite some time and will be there when they open back up, but I still haven’t found a drill that helps. Let me know if you find anything.
Hi ! I just bought my first reactive bowling ball yesterday, a Brunswick Twist. I struggle a lot with the thumb as I used to close my hand and pinch the house balls to hold it. When I train to throw the ball, half of the time my thumb doesn't come out smoothly and my release is mediocre. Is there a way to improve that ?
Very difficult learning process especially without proper coaching. But when the Bulb eventually comes on the feeling of the release and watching the ball actually roll down the lane correctly feels great. You will be like OH, that’s what I’m supposed to be doing. But they are right it takes a while to grasp the concept because it’s uniquely different. You almost have to snap the ball from your hand to clear the thumb right away. Then apply twist, torque, or rotation before your fingers leave the ball. All while stepping, swinging, aiming, and releasing the ball. There’s quite a lot of necessary steps to execute properly before chucking it down the lane. But it’s fun when you finally figure it out like every thing else. It just mechanics, mathematics, algebra, momentum, energy, transverse and linear targeting, perception, processing and coordination.
Any tips for ground gremlins like myself?
great thanks
I paused the video and went shopping and out for dinner. Kyle was in that position four hours. LoL
love you Kyle :)
I was about to comment on it and then they talked about it at 1:30. Haha!
Wow, uploaded a year ago today. I still watch this video sometimes because I am still struggling to hook a ball with proper release. Might benefit me to get an in person coaching session, and it would be a plus if it was with Brad and Kyle, lol.
Do you guys recommend fingertip or semi fingertip? Also if you have different balls for first and second shots how should the two bowling balls differ from each other…is it weight? Grip? Is there a formula when choosing to go with different bowling balls for first and second shots? Ty
How do you work on keeping the wrist bent? This is my biggest issue and i went down to a 14lb ball to work on this but i have a hard time keeping a flex in my wrist during a release.
I'm coming back to these videos because I have developed negative axis tilt and I have no clue where I bought that from
Back when I bowled alot I had had like a 1/2 a backswing rather than long backswing. Now that yall brought up the inside out situation, I realized that I was always on the outside of the ball. When you're on thr outside of the ball you have no control from really dropping the ball with a high backswing. Correct me if I'm wrong
Bowling is done sooo much differently now than the way my dad taught me back in the late 60s-early 70s.
What pound balls do you guys use? I'm considering going down a pound, what do you recommend when someone is considering that as an option?
I have been thinking a way to practice this at home. I'm thinking of practicing the inside release by pitching the ball into an old chair or bed. What do you think?
Thanks for info. Does ball weight matter? Isn't critical? I'm using a 15 pound ball last couple visits. I'm restarting agsin and haven't played years.
