Key word in the process is “Visualization”, alignment, focus and balance... Great tip and vlog... miss seeing you guys out on the road grinding it out on tour...
Awesome video guys. I've found what works best for me is to take my eyes from the end of the lane towards the dots as I approach and draw the line sort of "backwards" in my mind and my eyes are at the dots when I release my ball. When I got that consistent form of targeting and visualization down, my scores started going up.
This is one thing I have been having the most difficulty with. I know what my target is (I look at the arrows, usually the second arrow from the right), and every time I get to the foul line, I hope that my ball will go over what I'm looking at every time, but unfortunately that doesn't always happen. I bowled on Sunday night and I was constantly missing left (however I did have some shots go over my target, even though more of my strikes were brooklyn strikes, lol). Thank you Brad and Kyle for posting these videos. They have been really helpful and I am getting a little better each week because of your advice. Would love to get the opportunity to bowl with you guys.
Remember what they said in the video: your body has to be right if your targeting is gonna be consistent. You have to drill in your physical game so fundamentals become muscle memory. Once you’re able to do that, being able to accomplish what you visualize is much more easy. Bowling is hard, so practice with a purpose is huge.
@@CurtisL8.3066 Thanks Curtis ;)
ik this is old but people drift in there approach so where ur standing u might drift left causing you to miss to the left a good way to find out is take videos of yourself where you start and where you end up at foul line so then lets say u drift 5 left your standing on x number missing 3 or 4 boards left u can adjust to stand further right so when u finish ur excatly where u wanna be to hit that spot.
@@1337chunkypuff simpler Way to know if you drift.. look down before You start thé approach... look down at the foul line alternative the shot..
This just might help me for my upcoming season! Good luck and stay healthy!!! Looking forward to once the pba restarts!😭😭
Coming back to bowling after 18 months. The last month before lockdown, I was averaging about 220. I didn't pick up a ball until three weeks ago. Now, I'm working to get back to a 180 average. All of the little tweaks and adjustments which became second nature to execute, I'm now having to relearn from almost scratch. Balance is the big one. Thank God I can go back and watch all your videos again! Keep up the great work and hit that 100K soon...
A 40 pin drop on your average sounds like a few strikes and many missed spares. Work on spare conversions first. The few strikes will then get you back over 200.
Was it me or did Brad say he looks at the dots at first but then once he throws the shot he said it's the arrows... hmm seems like he knows what he looks at as well as I do! Lol oh well I stick with what works even if I feel like I'm throwing blind lol. Muscle memory is crazy and makes bowling effortless at times. #mentalgame

The idea of balance made me strive for it, and I have found improvement in my game: accuracy improved and scores have gone up. I always had the idea that bowling should be effortless for the most part, and finding the dynamic balance in the approach is how it happens. For me. For you? I dropped a coach recently because he could not deliver on this simple concept, so thanks Brad and Kyle.

This was a great video. One thing that gave me a bit of a laugh is that the camera you guys are using is so good. Since you guys have yourselves focused and not the lanes there are a few moments in this video that almost make you guys look like you have a green screen of a bowling alley behind you. Not detracting from the video, just something I found funny.
Brad and Kyle, wonder what weight of ball you guys use? Also, if you have a video about ball weight? I was recommended to go heavy vs light. But to me other bowlers can handle there ball more than what I feel I can. Even watching you guys, it looks like you guys have such control, like the ball is 12lbs. Especially in you “ball release” video.
Great video and great points guys, keep grinding after this corona v pass’s by.
Great video, you explained it very clearly and in simple terms, showed it to my kids (whom you met at 2019 US Open!) and it will be a great help in their bowling education.
I usually look at the dots area to begin my path for a strike and if I start missing for a couple of frames I usually try moving perhaps to the left since I am right handed or I might move my target 3 feet or so past the dots to get back on track. However, if nothing seems to be working using the dots area, do you advice THEN move to the arrows for your target since the dots are now working? I find that adjustments seem much "smaller" in the dots area than perhaps further down in the arrows or past arrows area. Thanks. I enjoy your videos.
Brad or Kyle would you please make a video for bowlers with a lower rev rate esp those with wrist problems thanks love you guys
Love your guys videos but something I know I'd love is you guys talk a little more about the gear and balls you use on your. Hearing from the pros what they like and use is a big eye opener
This helped me so much
I grew up looking at the arrows. I recently started looking at the dots to help get the ball down without lofting it. I noticed I was "more accurate" at the dots, but the margin for error is smaller. I recently switched back to looking at the arrows. I'm a little sloppier at my target point, but much tighter downlane. So it really is a personal preference. Whatever you need to do to find the breakpoint.
Today did bowling had fun though helpful tips
This might be the best video you guys have produced for me (0 handicap league bowler)
I am currently upgrading my targeting system. I really wish I had access to a center with oil. The closest one only oils for tournaments or Thursday night league, which is full right now. But I decided to get a job there, and use it to my advantage lol.
I average around 209 and these videos are awesome. I look maybe 10 feet or so beyond the arrows and I've always wondered if that was normal or not
I love this intro song!
Bowling basics 101. People get to tied up in just the bowling ball. Great video.
Appreciate yall!
Great video.
How do we control our balance? I try to keep my form correct, but sometimes I fall out of it. How can I be consistent each time? Thanks so much!
Brad & Kyle, always enjoy your videos, great theme song. Brad, at the beginning of this video you say that you use the dots . At the end of the video you say that you use the arrows for your target. You both say it does not matter which you use , dots or arrows, so I am assuming that you , Brad, change your target as you play. Is this correct, or is there an error in the video script?
Can you do a vlog on getting gown versus staying up at the line?
Love watching your videos but question for Brad. @ 2:25 you said you look at the dots and then @ 7:41 you said you look at the arrows. Please explain... Also Please tell Kris Prather that was awesome watching his 300 game/bet plus I just got to watch his Win in Ohio.
I believe he’s talking about a 3 point targeting. You look at where you want your ball to read the lane?(breakpoint) for 3 seconds then you move to the arrows for 3 seconds then the lay down spot for 3 seconds. You move from each spot to visually draw the line to the pocket and then most people look at the arrows during their approach. I could be wrong but this is what I use and it sounds similar to what he’s talking about.
Thanks
you must have access to your bowling alley for video recording . ours here in Washington state are all closed because of the CV19 battle .
Can u do some videos with packy and Chris to help out the 2 hander or no thumb bowler? 🤔
thanks
Realizing there are so many different ways to look at it helps. I don't bowl the way the majority of people bowl(I actually end on my same leg as hand I bowl with). But being reminded of fundimental info helps.
If that works for you it's great but you may want to try to transition to the other leg unless you have injury. With your other like out of the way it allows for your swing to properly come past your body. Otherwise your arm is having to go around your leg which can cause injury in long-term to your arm
@@highrevbowling7615 thanks for the advice I know it isn't best for me but kinda how I have done it forever due to my opposite side having a disability. I might be able to try it to do it correct way but would take a long time.

I'm getting back into bowling after 30 years. Even when I was nine years old, I loved the fact that bowling was all up to me. Once I release the ball I have no control, so it's all in my visualization and accuracy.

I usually use the dots but if my ball is hooking before it gets to my breakpoint I look further down the lane sometimes between the dots and the arrows sometimes at the arrows this allows me to get the ball further down the lane before it hooks.
I have doing the same thing for 20 years .
Hi Brad Hi Kyle!
Usually when im bowling i am looking at the foul line and i got pretty good at it, but my shots do tend to be innaccuate with my target because my eyes are at the foul line and arrows but my shot ends off with my eyes at the foul line and not the arrows which nothing is wrong with looking at the foul line but the arrows create a better picture and result down lane
2 and 3 arrow is normal depending on various ball types . . .but Oil patterns suck in tournament play very hard like the shark pattern hate that one lol
your right when you say it does not have to have a number but my coach always says i want u to aim a the 10 arrow but he refers it to the amount of boards so it goes arrow 5 10 15 20 15 10 5 is that bad to actually make numbers for it
Question for Brad. In the beginning of the video, Brad says he targets the dots. But, when he demonstrates a shot at the end, he says he looks at the arrows. Please explain.
I look at the dots ..found their closer and easier for me .... but it has improved my gam ‘
Bruce Iler I used to look at the foul line when I was one handed because it helped me release the ball consistently. Now I’m a two hander and I look at the arrows and draw the line back to a point right in front of the foul line (again to help me release the ball consistently).
@@DeanMcCain That's funny I'm the complete opposite. I looked at the arrows when I was one handed but after going two handed I found that it was hard to look up enough to look at the arrows so I'm transitioning to using the dots. The odd part is translating where at the foul line I need to throw to get it to hit at the arrows where I want
pequals hence why I look at a point in between the dots and the foul line after I’ve started my approach. The way I do it is I look at my target at the arrows and then as I go through my approach I look down at the point my eyes want to look at (which is usually right behind the target at the arrows) and then I immediately look at the arrows once the ball has gone over the point my eyes were looking at.
@@DeanMcCain Interesting I'll try that out the next time a bowling center is open around me.
I have trouble keeping my eyes on my target. I have a very high back swing like Kyle how do I keep my eyes on target.

Meanwhile.. I just centre my focus on the pins firmly and insure that my release is as straight as I can make it. :D Aiming for the strike pocket. It has worked 85%/90% of the time. I struggle to see the arrows on the lane due to the glare of lights. (Sometimes I aim between 2nd and 3rd if I am able.) It still ends up being roughly the same results. My balance has drastically improved via some words from a teammate (to the point where I am unable to bowl the way I did before.) But the key for me personally? Listening to music via headphones. I time my approach, my swing and my release to certain favourite tunes. Now that I am balanced and I take my time to slow down? I am seeing a real positive perk to my scores. I may not be a pro bowler by any means.. But 6 years in a league has provided me with a hobby that is essentially legal anger management. I am set to move to an alias league next year so that I am able to wear my headphones every time I play. (Stupid TBA rules will plague me no longer soon enough.) 🤣
I thought Brad said he looks at the dots...
That's my problem. Is the dot focus better than the arrow leading to the break point Help. Conrsd
@@conradmitchell8118 well looking at the dots does make you put more hand on the ball and more revs so. I can only look at both sets of dots honestly
Yeah, he did.
Maybe Brad dots his I’s with arrows. He said dots and then arrows .IDK 🤷♂️
I used the dots as well
We all have our own way ...... I just found it easier to hit my spot that way
at the begining brad said he aimes at the DOTS,at the end before he takes his shot he says he goes for the arrows?
Brad said he looks at the dots then said he looks at the arrows ???? Also I have a question. For a righty what foot left or right do you put on your mark? Just curious what most bowlers do.
Thanks! Now I want to go bowling and I know I am not able to hahah
Had my highest game in league on Friday, 202. Wish I could say the other two games were even close to that 😂😭😭 I swear after one game my ball either hooks off the lane of doesn't hook at all, I can never find any middle ground. It is so frustrating.
Good advice; let me go check on Wesley 😂
That intro fire 🔥🔥 Love it
Sometime my eyes look down. It’s what is done natural for every shot. Sometimes I can just look at the arrows all the way through the approach.
So you can focus on the pins?
I have to ask this question I don’t look at the arrows I don’t look at the dots I’m actually looking at the breaking point where the ball would break into the pans is that wrong
im a 2 hander with a 200 average but i never pick a mark to aim at. i just “know” where to throw it. i just know if its good or not. should i try and get a spot to throw at or nah
You're just playing an area, if you are standing in the same place and moving as the night goes on, it's ok to play that way. Especially on a house shot. Although, being able to nail your target board at the arrows or dots, and hitting a 2-4 board area at the break point down lane will dramatically increase accuracy and scoring. It will also allow you to adjust one or two boards left or right to change the trajectory of the ball. This becomes exceedingly important if you ever get on professional sport oil patterns. I was chatting with Brad at a PBA event and we touched on the subject a bit.
When you say you "know" where to throw it, that's your visualization. You know that if you place the ball here, it will go there and curve like that and hit the pocket like this. You're FEELING it rather than memorizing it, and it is good to have that instinct. But it's not great for consistency when suddenly you DON'T know where to throw it. What's your point of reference that you have to use to adjust? If you move left, how much are you moving? If you're lucky guessing, that's not consistent, even if it gets results. I suspect you do know the details but you're just not paying attention to them. If you can repeat your shot consistently, then you have a set position and a target already. You're great at visualizing, and your execution is coming subconsciously rather than being a ritual you memorize and follow. I just don't personally trust myself to be that physically consistent, especially after many hours of bowling. Fatigue really hurts my game.
This helps, but my biggest problem with hitting my mark is my elbow, I've tried a bunch of different things to keep from flipping my elbow out, but I have trouble keeping my elbow in...
Does anyone else love the intro music as much as me lol?
I'm 64 havent bowled in 40 years. I started with the arrows if I was missing my target I would go for the dots. Then watch what arrow it was hitting. going bowling tonight for the first time in 40 years . My ball is from then also . Urethane hammer 1st generation. lol. hope I survive.

Brad, first you said you look at the dots, at the end of the video you said you look at the arrows?
I want to see Brad with HAIR is there an early video out there?
Perfect video when getting mentally prepared for nationals.
Assuming it doesn't get cancelled.
I actually never hit my mark. I generally consistently miss it in the same spot, about 2 boards right, at about 1 foot past it. If I hit my mark, I know I messed up and pulled it :)
My big thing is what is your body supposed to do to point the ball the way you want it to go? I don't understand that well.
Even when you throw your ball over your target, the oil depicts how the ball will travel down the lane. For me, I make adjustments based on the lane and somewhat my mark.
Will this help with two handed bowling as well
Of course. Visualize your shot, execute your delivery, stay balanced until the ball hits the pins.
I have bowling tomorrow morning
I too miss bowling. I also miss the friend I have lost due to the virus. For all those missing their recreation, I would ask that you consider that there are many things in the world much more important than bowling.
