Snake Boy (2008): In Cambodia, a real-life Mowgli strokes and kisses his five-metre long pet, a giant Burmese python. Seven-year old Sambath rides, wrestles and even sleeps with a snake big enough to squeeze a man to death. Subscribe to Journeyman: kzhead.info_c...

"I pat and kiss it, like a husband and wife," Sambath says. As the family sit down to eat, Lucky the python slides around the edge of the room. It survives on a diet of four chickens a week, yet giant pythons have been known to eat their owners. "Since the snake has been in our house we've been safe," says Sambath's mother who tenderly washes the python, which was just the size of a thumb when it first crawled into the family home.

  • Just looked it up. The family gave up the snake to a sanctuary 3 years ago because they could no longer afford to feed it (it was eating 10 pounds of chicken a week). Seems no harm ever happened and the boy who's 14 now still goes to the sanctuary to visit it.

    • That’s exactly where that snake belongs in the zoo. I love animals and know they’re all God’s creatures but a big snake like that isn’t a pet. It’s too dangerous and unpredictable. SMH. Well, have a blessed evening anyway in this crazy and upside down world and just in case nobody ever told this before: Jesus loves you and he desires a personal relationship with you. God bless you. ~ John 3:16 ❤️

    • Isabel Love I don’t have any pets right now but I did have cats, a dog, a parakeet, goldfish and a frog in my younger days. I do miss my pets, especially my cats and dog a lot and hope to be reunited with them in Heaven whenever the Lord Jesus takes me home. I’ve never wanted a pet snake but can appreciate others enjoying them as pets. However, the huge snake shown in this video looks dangerous and unpredictable to me. Well, have a blessed day and let the joy of the Lord be your strength. Heaven will be beautiful beyond our wildest imagination. Just hold on to Jesus. He keeps ALL his promises. ❤️

  • I had to watch this twice just to confirm that i wasn't imagining it. I love snakes, I love BIG snakes, and I've had large burmese pythons for most of my life. I grew up around them, and I have never in all my 34 years of life interacting with reptiles seen a burmese python, or any large snake that was that docile. Not ever. Not even the snakes they use for eduction as animal ambassadors were that patient and gentle. Burmese pythons and snakes in general almost universally hate having their heads touched, and they REALLY don't like to be squeezed or squashed and they absolutely WILL enforce their likes and dislikes with a nasty bite if you don't pay attention to what their body language is telling you and their backward curved teeth are no joke. At her size, if she bites you're absolutely gonna need some stitches. Never once during that entire video did she so much as pose for a strike. Not once. When he was squishing her face and kissing her I was sure it was all about to go terribly wrong, but no. She just let him do whatever he wanted AND she didn't attempt to get away like a normal but docile snake. She should have nailed that boy six times during the course of the video....but instead she let him do what he wanted and patiently put up whatever he did and she did it purely because she WANTED to. Burmese pythons don't DO that. She also seeks out his company, and it's clearly not because she expects food. She let him RIDE on her. Which before this I would have said was impossible. She just wants to be near him. Not gonna lie but by the end of the video I was wondering if maybe his mother wasn't dead on about the dream she had. That snake is one of a kind, and that little boy is possibly the luckiest person on the planet. The only care issue I can see is that she's a bit fat, so clearly they feed her more than enough...but that's not necessarily a bad thing in a female burmese. It means it will cost her body less when she does lay eggs, but even being well fed doesn't explain her lack of aggression and patience with the child. Handling a snake who has eaten can actually be even more dangerous than handling one with an empty stomach, because all they want to do is be left alone to digest and excessive handling after a feed can make them throw up their meal, which is bad news if you're a snake, but she doesn't even get annoyed with him. This is one for the record books for sure.

  • There really is something magical that happens when you raise any animal from a baby. It's bonds and imprinted a good owner as one of its kind. Reptiles of course with smaller brains think more instinctual, but the giant snake is connected to boy as if they are the same species. Also the boys body heat keeps the snake warm at night. The snake still an animal, but has adapted to the boy as a deep part of its existence. Also, the snake looks to get full time attention from the boy...here's the future problem...boy grows up and goes off to school...not sure how the giant will do with separation anxiety...confusion just might have him eating one of the family members or rebonding. Fascinating story either way. Snake looked extremely healthy.

I hand my 8ft boa constrictor to my 6 year old nephew well watching the snakes body language. I have been bit by that boa a few times when it was a baby but when I did get bit but it was my fault each time. I looked like a scary predator or I looked like food but now she’s as docile as any well trained dog or cat.

  • I absolutely adore snakes, and that is a very beautiful snake, however I can't help worrying about this case. Snakes don't usually choose to attack humans and I am one of the last people who would ever say they do, but I fear for a seven year old's ability to treat a snake with the respect that is necessary. The boy loves his snake which is without a doubt wonderful- but he treats the snake more like one might treat a puppy. That large snake will undoubtedly need large meals, and when a snake is in feeding mode, they need to be left alone, or they can mistake moving, living objects for prey. That snake is so large, that if in feeding or defensive mode he or she could seriously harm such a small boy even though it would most likely be unintentionally. The boy squeezes the snake, kisses the snake's head fiercely and pulls it around, which can seriously stress snakes out if treated like that for too long. Snakes are NOT mammals, and are usually solitary creatures- too much interaction can once again make them uncomfortable and frightened, and a frightened snake is more prone to striking. This is not a safe scenario for either the boy or the snake. If the snake hurt, or dare I say it, attempted to eat the boy then the media would begin yelling about what a 'dangerous', 'vicious', 'aggressive' animal snakes are and how no one should have them as pets, however people need to know that snakes can make amazing pets- they need, however, to be looked after correctly and handled with care and respect, which this snake is not.

  • Amazing the ignorant comments on this thread. Actually, I take that back. The stupidity of the comment thread really doesn't surprise me at all. Snakes track prey by scent. The snake eats chickens and wild game. People smell like neither, so the snake does not recognize them as prey. To add to this, people walk upright and appear much bigger to the snake than they really are because of the snake's perspective from the ground. Thus people do not appear as appealing prey items from this angle either, which is why it's exceedingly rare for people to be killed by pythons. This snake is as domesticated as a dog, and unless you morons also go and start crap about big dogs, just save us your stupidity. This snake has been in the village for 6 years as of the making of this video. If this snake was dangerous, it would have caused trouble long ago.

    • I breed and work with ball pythons and carpet pythons, so I speak from experience. Having dealt with dogs too, I can honestly say pythons are actually easier to read. And that's not that I don't like dogs.

      @nickthestick26@nickthestick269 жыл бұрын
    • Wow. Snakes are not pack animals, friend. Dog's are imprinted to determine who the Alpha is, and where in the pack they are, as to pecking order. They came up to campfires, like as not, as their wolf ancestors did, looking for scraps, and eventually learned that worried, 'are you gonna feed me?' look that works so well, along with patience, for scraps. I am a completely live and let live person, appreciate all of nature. But these truths about scent and people towering over them, etc...not the full picture. Espec. as the kid lays on it all day, and, apparently, grabs its head and kisses it, and sometimes the snake appears to not enjoy that, from this vid. Snakes, Pythons, have and do, on occasion, attack their keepers or those other humans around them. Not a mammal, even, so I tend to doubt the bond exists, in the same fashion, as with a dog. Dogs would lay down their LIFE for you, which of course is far different than from people's feline pets, even, but also a mammal. Anyway, I am not here to pick a fight, just saying I do hope that little kid ONE day doesn't get et. I DO allow that IF she truly had that dream (the mother, and SHARED that info with others, prior to birthing), who knows, maybe the kid truly is safe. PEACE

  • It's interesting that the Burmese Python isn't head shy, usually they like to be petted only on the bottom jaw. They normally strike if touched on the top of their head because they can't blink or close their eyes. Also, anything coming from above is normally considered predatory. I wouldn't allow it to have any unobserved time with any creature it could conceivably swallow (the boy) but that doesn't mean it's a bad family pet. The parents, however, seem to not have a high respect for it's ability to kill.

    • Look at how inappropriate and rough the boy was with the snake. I cringed several times bc the boy broke all boundaries, had no respect for the fact that Burmese Pythons hate for their heads to be touched, didn’t care about her comfort, constantly laying on top of her w/all his weight, hit her eyes (which can’t close), and treated her like she was a jungle gym.

  • Great story, some snakes do make good pets, the royal python (also known as ball python) got its name because egyptian god-kings liked to wear them around their neck 3500 years ago, and it tends to wrap itself into a ball if it gets scared. In this case, you can tell that the snake is morbidly obese, based on the size of the head compared to the body diameter. A python like that can do well without food for a year, the smaller royal pythons have been observed refusing food for up to 14 months. The bite of these is not venomous, and they do not have much force in their jaws, but the teeth are needle-sharp and they have an extra row of teeth, like a doubled upper jaw.

  • The snake was probably well fed. And it knew if it killed the boy or the family it would have to eat them. This would certainly cause it to not strangle the boy. It also probably imprinted on the boy too. That would make it think of the boy as a mother or father figure. The snake would then rather protect the boy not kill him. It looks so cute and harmless and not deadly. As long as the boy doesn't piss it off he should be fine.
