Living With Tigers: Family Share Home With Pet Tigers

A BRAZILIAN family have taken the trend for exotic pets to new extremes. Not content with the standard pooch or moggy, the Borges brood have been sharing their home with a pack of SEVEN tigers. Aryas Borges, began his love affair with tigers when he found two of the big cats living in a bad state at a circus -- and decided to bring them home. His daughters Nayara, 20, Uyara, 23, and Deusanira, 24, grew up sharing their meals, beds and playtime with the fully-grown predators and walking them on a leash. And Nayara, a real-life female Tarzan, regularly hops into the family swimming pool to take a dip with her furry friends. After his success with the rescue tigers, Ary started breeding them, and the tigers still have the run of the house at the Borges family home in Maringa. The family have forged an incredible bond with the tigers after living under the same roof for so long.

  • People underestimate how powerful wild animals are. A Siberian tiger can jump up to 16 feet in the air and runs up to 40 mph. One strike of its claw can take a head off. Even if the tiger wants to kiss you on the face his tongue is so sharp like sandpaper. When he licks you it will leave a red mark on your skin. If even my domesticated pet cat can sometimes grab my hand and bite me then imagine what a tiger can do in a split of a second. He is not domesticated and will always be wild. That family is risking their lives everyday.

  • I hope someone reads this. Update to the story: These tigers have had a very sad end. Ary, who owned and cared for these tigers along with his family, had all the documentation and authorizations from IBAMA (the governmental institution that handles wild life here in Brazil). One day, this same institution told Ary that he had to hand these tigers over to local zoos. Now all these tigers are dead (all 7). You can blame IBAMA for that. Ary and his family moved to Colombia, where he works as a trainer and consultant for wild life.

  • I love tigers and i love that he's helping them but..they have instincts that can activate. They are still wild. Dogs domesticated 14 thousand years ago. Cats domesticated 7 thousand years ago. These tigers: domesticated yesterday.... At the very least keep the grandchild away untill not 'easy prey' snack size.

    • Yes, they’re more aggressive and their bite force is stronger too. Meaning if it wants to eat one of those people, nothing can stop it, not even a gun as death is usually not instantaneous and damage done to humans will be too catastrophic to survive.

  • I've recently been reading articles and watching vids about people owning unusual pets that ultimately caused their demise. Bears, apes, various reptiles, etc.. In almost all these stories the humans believe they developed a special bond that would never be overcome by animal instinct... An animal's behavior can change in an instant, unpredictably, and when it does we are reminded that nature can never be truly tamed. Yesterday's source of scratches can quickly become today's sustenance. I love animals and nature as much as the next person, but I have a fearful respect for their power and survival instinct. No pet tigers for me!

    • That's mean, when the tigers are left hungry, natural instinct kicks in. It is not a life for those tigers, the belong in the wild, where they feel free. You can't just erase millions years of natural instinct of one the biggest predator on earth.

    • @@jordandennis6794 Yeah that maybe. When you wake cats up they can attack. But an unwanted belly rub is fine. I wouldn't mind getting something a bit smaller like a leopard at some point. You can get in America apparently. Leopard is like big dog size. But better than a dog obviously!

    • You can tell by her body language she’s generally nervous around them. Even when she’s feeding that one she’s keeping her distance. I think they’re all subjugated to their crazy father’s wishes. And I don’t believe for one minute that they arent the circus people.

    • When it comes to big cats, communication through body language and vocal ques are extremely important. It doesn't matter how close you are to them. Her doing that was the right thing to do in that situation or it could've ended badly for her, even if the tiger had some sort of a relationship with her prior. It could be that she was scared or it could've been that she understood that the tiger was agitated by her but didn't realize until it got close and moved quickly to show it respect like the video said.
