Money. Romance. Tragedy. Deception. Hulu’s limited series “The Dropout,” the story of Elizabeth Holmes (Amanda Seyfried) and Theranos, is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. How did the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye?

Macy, Elizabeth Marvel, Laurie Metcalf, Dylan Minnette, Alan Ruck, Sam Waterston, Michaela Watkins and more.
The series is executive produced by showrunner Elizabeth Meriwether, Liz Heldens, Liz Hannah, Katherine Pope, Rebecca Jarvis, Victoria Thompson and Taylor Dunn. • I’m glad this doesn’t seem to be a “oh she’s bad but also kind of cool” story. The trailer makes it very, very clear her greed and arrogance led her to lie and take advantage of people and that she felt entitled to money and respect even though she had no idea how science works. Truly despicable, and I’m glad this trailer didn’t sugar coat it.

Then, you have the little vials that Theranos claimed collected small vials of blood from patients. Finally, in the trailer, there are small droplet sound effects. Well done 👏

  • Amanda is perfectly cast for this. The whole cast is amazing. The whole story is nuts. I feel bad for the average person that actually tried to use her tech but the people that invested in it were idiots. Like how do you pump millions of dollars into something without any oversight? I put more care into my choice of kitchen appliance than these millionaires did into their investments.

    • Because there's LOTS of companies they try to invest in and they know a large number of them will fail. The company is private until it decides to go public so they can show whatever results they want. Sometimes, if they f@&£ around they'll find out.

      @llllrrrrrrr@llllrrrrrrr2 жыл бұрын
    • Because she fooled them all. That is why this is such a huge story. The people that invested were shown a FAKE lab, where they tested blood in one of their machines, while secretly taking it to another room, where it was tested in a standard lab, then had the results immediately sent to her. Acting as if their machine was done. The entire thing was a well thought out and executed farce. She faked reports from Pfizer and the FDA. She pulled out ALL THE STOPS, by faking the required documentation and tests. Her investors did all their due diligence. She even fooled the FDA. There is a podcast that goes into detail and the extent she went to, in order to fool so many people the way that she did. This girl is the very definition of a narcissistic con. She did not care what it took, who she hurt, or who she had to take down. It's really quite incredible.

  • I'm just pointing out that I don't think the idea here was to capture Elizabeth's physical likeness, more so her essence "behind the scenes" - the director (if I recall) expressed her genuine interest in "getting inside her mind", understanding why she did what she did and THAT is a good motive! She never had any idea if it was possible and had no interest in helping them design or build it. Before that she hired some people to build a wearable patch that could detect peoples diseases and inject them with medicine, which was about as plausible as a teleportation device. She was a naive kid with no medical background or education, and was given a billion dollars. The only thing she was good at was charming rich rich old men in their 80s and 90s

  • Years ago, adaptation of this story was originally rumoured to be a film starring Jennifer Lawrence as Holmes. Lawrence has a closer facial shape to Holmes and I can see her imitate that crazy wide-eyed, grinning expression Holmes has. However, Amanda Seyfried is a capable actor herself and having the story told over a few episodes instead might provide more coverage.

  • OMG! Only about 5 trailers in my lifetime has given me chills -- THE DROPOUT trailer did just that! I cannot wait for this!! I don't know if it's because of how Amanda Seyfried did the voice, because I live near Stanford and followed this story in real life, or everything came together in epic proportions! The other 5 trailers are: 1. John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978). The overall soundtrack is scary enough and it just scared me as a kid. 2. Jurassic World. Seeing the return of the franchise is like seeing Jurassic Park for the first time. The music playing as the doors open and the train takes the tourists to the new park. 3. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2: At the one minute mark with the music building and the action-packed scenes. 4. The Dark Knight Rises (the 3rd official trailer): The building of the music, the speech by Alfred. The visuals. 5. Super 8: reminded me of E.T. and The Goonies. It’s a lot of action-packed scenes with great music. The adventures of childhood going on a discovery.

    • Let's face it, to some extent they had to portray her as somewhat likeable/sympathetic. It's the only way she was able to con so many people out of so much money; she was effectively relying on her charm/charisma alone to perpetuate the fraud. In hindsight, we know she's none of those things, but I can see why they would choose to go this route in depicting her rise (and I assume, eventual meteoric fall).

Even from their inflections and body language, you could see the stress rising month after month. But Amanda Seyfried I think has proven herself capable of tackling any role thrown her way and I have yet to see Lovelace but I hear she was pretty good in that so I expect she'll be the biggest highlight of the film. I just hope there's more here than just a excellent performance, alot of these biopics/ based on a real person kind of films usually have nothing more than a great lead performance and expect that'll be enough to get by.
