5:51 No, whismur being the only pokemon you can find make sense, because all of the zubats, geodudes and the likes escaped.
Tuber Charlie is located in an abandoned ship, Tuber Charlie can walk through walls. Tuber Charlie is a ghost
I turned 30 this year. I grew up with the OG games. I'll never be too old for Pokémon
I don't think I ever felt "too old for Pokemon"
It's a rather sad feeling, I wouldn't wish it on any fan
Same here! I've got every game near launch since Gen 3
Trainers walking through walls is just the funniest thing in concept *there's no escape*
Trumpets: Exist Hoenn: *I'll take your entire stock!!!!*
5:51 It literally says in Whismur's pokedex entry that loud noises upset it
Even if Whismur were immune to loud noises it could just as easily show that the Pokémon who were disturbed by the noise fled, leaving only the immune ones.
It says it gets scared and starts wailing at a loud volume if it senses danger. But it doesn't say that sense is its sense of hearing.
Pokémon Sapphire was my very first real videogame, though I am at the right age for me to have played the first games, my parents were very strict about our toys so I didn’t get a videogame system until about 2004. At the time I was also suffering from bullying at school and Pokemon gave me a feeling of comfort. There were times where I felt like the horrible treatment I was receiving from the other kids was too much but thinking about my Pokémon and how I wanted to see what the next games were like did help me overcome thoughts that no middle school aged girl should ever be thinking. These games really did save me.
The hoenn games brought so much life and color to the franchise from the previous Gameboy color games. And an amazing soundtrack
It's kinda funny that Chikorita is often forgotten when it comes to the Johto starters, because it's my favorite of the 3. And that's only partly due to a Chikorita named Mr. Stake.
I love chikorita but it's just bad and imo unusable
@@knuckelz8923 Eh, it's definitely not great as far as it's stats and move pool go, but I like Meganium's design way more than Feraligatr or Typhlosion. Plus, I always taught it Body Slam and had REALLY good luck paralyzing Pokémon with it.
Same here and Chikorita was the starter I went with during my playthrough of Crystal.
@@derrickhaggard Honestly, Chikorita was my least favorite at first. I liked both Cyndaquil and Totodile's designs more, but after they're all fully evolved, Meganium is my favorite from Gen 2 design wise, even though I typically chose Totodile originally because I always taught it Ice attacks to counter Dragon types. And it's not the only time my favorite starter from a generation changed later on. I went from Sceptile to Blaziken in Gen 3, and from Charmander to Squirtle in Gen 1.
On the topic of trainers who move through impassable obstacles, Swimmer Barry on Route 126 can swim through a boulder if he spots you (he's the one swimming circles northeast of Sootopolis in Ruby & Sapphire.) Swimmer Barry is *not* mentioned in any trivia sections on Bulbapedia, so it makes me wonder how many *other* Hoenn trainers defy the laws of physics? There's another piece of trivia regarding Tuber Charlie; if he spots you at the top of the stairs, his battle terrain will be that of a cave (despite battling in a building.) Not to mention the weird sound glitch that sometimes happens after using Thunderbolt or Thunder (I seriously thought my game was crashing when I first heard that noise.)
I've always loved Pokémon and I always will. Never felt like I was too old for the franchise.
I have to say that ORAS might be the one that I played the most.
Emerald for me.
BW/Bw2 for me
Speaking of ORAS there is a bit of dialogue suggesting ORAS is set after X, and Y basically when you speak to a NPC in a town that NPC will mention the events of X and Y specifically the Geosenge Town Incident, plus in a other nod to the games that kickstarted Gen 6 you'll find a boy mentioning he's visiting Hoenn from Kalos and that he wants to be a Ryhorn Racer.
Dppt for me
Probobaly x and y for me
I think Soundproof only works on Sound-based moves, plus the vibrations and rocks moving all over the place would also displace the Pokemon.
Doesn't work on perish song
@@TheDancingMudkip Okay
@@TheDancingMudkip Yeah, in 1 of 6 generations where both Soundproof and Perish Song are available (Gen 8).
Gen 3 was my introduction to the franchise. 0:58 When I was 8 years old, I was in a school where everyone was my age, and we all loved and talked about Pokemon. Then I transferred to a private school where everyone else was older (11-12) and hated Pokemon, so I only had two friends at that entire school.
I can understand how you felt
Glad people are finally realizing how good a remake ORAS was. Maybe it’s how astoundingly bad BDSP is looking, but either way it’s nice to see people praising the games.
Yeah, I've always liked ORAS. Though if there was one thing I would change is have the Gym Leaders use their teams from Emerald. It's kind of lame that Wattson doesn't use Electrike or Manectric, and Tate and Liza should've had the Xatu and Claydol to go along with their Solrock and Lunatone.
People hated ORAS graphics but are now praising it to bash bdsp
9:15 Thunder Armor legitimacy confirmed
Congrats on 200,000 subs Hoops! I've been watching your stuff for 3 years now , you absolutely deserve it.
I've played pokemon since Gen 1 and Gen 3 (Hoenn) is my favorite specifically emerald, because it has an amazing post game.
This was a great video. When you've been a Pokémon fanatic for almost 2 decades, it's hard to learn about new information, because you've come across most of it already. I learned some really awesome stuff I never knew about one of my favorite generations (Can't decide between gen 3 or 4 lol) Thank you, HoopsandHipHop!
Chikorita is not forgotten. In Sweden where I live it is the most popular Johto starter.
This is a lie Sweden and Canada are not real just drawn on maps
Clearly your opinion is subjective, unless there's a literal poll on Swedens favourite Johto starter lol
I have never felt too old for Pokémon.
Hoenn has one of the most iconic stories in all of Pokémon
Makes sense that only Whismurr remain. Other Pokémon cleared out because of noise; Whismurr stayed put because of their ability. Like, they probably stopped construction because it was disturbing other Pokémon, and then over time Whismurr remained and took the place over.
Cool theory
Me who knows literally everything about hoenn: try me bro.
Me too
Same
Yeah lol
Relatable
Did you know Hoenn is one of my favorite regions?
Hoenn also has a mall city.
Only in the remakes.
Fan from India love your vids
Thank you so much!! :D
Me too
Me at 10: Yay Pokémon! Me at 16: I'm too old for Pokémon, I shouldn't play childish games and of course never discuss it with others. Me at 30: Yay Pokémon!
Thought you’d mention the missing collision on that tile in the Sootopolis gym!
6:44 - Mad flashbacks to YGO true draco meta.
I’d think that on the contrary, it’s the Whismurs that caused very loud noises that disturbs the workers so they can’t finish the tunnel.
POOR CHIKORITA! A never forgot chikorita movement needs to be created lol I love you chikorita
your channel really is growing nicely hoops :D congrats, keep the excellent work up!!!
You don't think the reason why Whismur is the only Pokemon left in Rustboro Tunnel is because, i dunno, all the other Pokemon got driven off by the noise?
I remember starting to grow out of pokemon at the time. But then I saw the commercial with all the people and they were with the new hoenn pokemon that looked like them, and from then I've been hooked with every gen ever since
Hoenn was my first Pokemon Game that i had a full team
Hoenn was my first region, And I did tecnencly have a team A swampert, a mightyena and a gardevoir That's it
my first pokemon team was quilava. just that.
hoenn is noice region :0
True
Hoenn is one of my favorite regions
can't really blame them for ditching the plan for combo moves. the variety of moves they could of created would of doubled or tripled the amount of moves they would of had to animate and they would of had to do something unique for those moves damage calculation. using heat wave as an example with the original plan to combine a flying and fire type move would that mean it would be 4X effective on grass types but how would it affect steel types would it have been only X1 (X2 for fire but X.5 for flying). also what if a Pokémon was immune to one of the types used in the attack would that nullify the whole thing. i think they realize to fully put this in they would of had to delay the game release. with Pokémon drop in popularity at the time you can see why this was not an option. while it would be nice to have combo moves it would be even more difficult with the even larger amount of moves we have now.
Didn't mention that one of the cut pokemon lines was that of Gastrodon
One thing about the Pokémon games that has intrigued me was the decision to age up the main protagonists of Gen 5, first half of Gen 6, and Gen 8 as Gen 5 protagonists Hilbert, Hilda, Nate, and Rosa are canonically in the age group of 14 to 15, where as Gen 6 protagonists Calem, Serena, and Gen 8 protagonists Victor, and Gloria are canonically in the age group of 16 to 17. Where as Red, Leaf, Gold/Ethan, Crystal/Kris/Lyra, Brendan, May, Lucas, Dawn, and Sun, and Moon are according to the canon all in the age group of 10 to 11. I'm just curious about this call especially since Calem, Serena, Victor, and Gloria are old enough to get a driver's license, and the Gen 5 protagonists are old enough to get a learner's permit.
Being a young fan at the time of the games release was rough cause there used to be a surplus of Pokemon merch/toys everywhere but suddenly you were lucky to find any. Did anyone else experience this?
Hoenn brought in double battles, my favorite format next to rotation battles, and for that alone I love and appreciated the region. Granted I love all of the games for many reasons, even when they have details that annoy me. It is cool that the pledges had their mechanics originate in Hoenn and it does make me hope we got more moves like that in the future. (Especially in a new Orre game.)
Twinleaf town remix slaps 🔥
the Whismur thing works if all moves are powered by Infinity Energy. The ability is not blocking all damaging sounds, just sounds that are made with Infinity Energy. So the Trainer's voice shouting a move or a construction vehicle could hurt it's ears, but Jigglypuff's magical song is useless.
I am loving your remixes and I use them as white noise to help me sleep at night keep up the good work
Well this is certainly coincidental... I'm currently SR-ing for a Timid / Modest Treecko ♀️ in Alpha Sapphire 😌 (I just felt like replaying ORAS because I love these games so much.) Also, I love Chikorita - idc how bad people think she is 🖤
All other pokemon fled Rusturf Tunnel, leaving only Whismur who - being soundproof - don’t care about the noise.
Theory… Whismur has soundproof as it’s ability due to the tunnels construction. All the other kinds of mons had to leave as they couldn’t “evolve” to the environment like Whismur did. It’s big ears would of hurt tremendously if it hadn’t undergone evolution to block out the noise . The staff realised this and halted construction immediately. Sounds viable lol
"Never to old for pokemon" When i was 14 lost interest in for the longest time took me 7 years to finally get back to playing the series again
6:42 anyone else recognize the background as being a yugioh card?
So cool 😎 thumbs up 👍 keep up the great work I follow on Spotify
Thank you, I appreciate it!!
Hey hoops thanks 👊
Hoops: I will smell you guys later Me you just had a good fight with dried whipped cream:
You can tell Hoops has never watched Naruto because of the way he pronounced Susano'o
The combo moves make me think to the Anime when Ash fought Tate and Liza and Pikachu and Swellow used Thunder Armor
Ruby and sapphire definitely brought me back to pokemon cause after gold/silver/crystal plus. Pokemon stadium 2 I entered my yugioh phase and had moved past pokemon
Sapphire was the first game I owned. It was my favorite for a while!
Nice use of the yugioh card art for Amano Iwato lol
4:31 I feel offended my this oversight
Gen 3 probably has the best starter trio aside from Gen 1.
I think the gen 4 starters are better
Damn you’re fine. iSub.
Gen 4 beats them both. Though I'll give gen 3 2nd/3rd place.
Haha nice YGO card reference there ;)
Whismur being the only pokemon is gamefreak saying the damage was already done. All the other Pokemon either left or are really rare.
I haven't gotten to play oras but it is really good information
Although I played pokemon yellow and pokemon silver, I didn't really fall in love with Pokemon until I got a copy of pokemon sapphire. Hoenn remains my favorite region today. And I was SOOOO excited to finally be able to play as a girl! I was always bummed about boys being the default in my first two games (I never owned crystal). The game I've spent the most time in ended up being alpha Sapphire, I loved the remakes.
Best gen of all time, followed by Unova and Sinnoh.
Hoops meant to put this out last week because at the end he says his album comes out on July 2nd lmao
talks about amano iwato of mytholigy and such shows the yugioh amano iwato card art
my two favorite japanese franchises arenaruto and pokemon and they share allusions and references which i find pretty cool such as the susano’o and amaterasu
even game freak knew how bad chikorita is lmao
#HoopsandHipHop dats...goooddddd.
I saw this cuz u posted on amino
Yeah, I'm in my 30s and I stopped playing Pokemon after Crystal. Nowadays I'm playing that Crystal Clear romhack on my phone.
A shame for the moves combinations thing :( Does it explains the infamous : " Thunder Armor" of the anime ?
Amano Iwato also happens to be a strong yugioh card 😁🧐
_i heard you liek Mudkipz_
Yes, I do good sir
Oops, looks like we landed back in 2005
Fact most professors are named after trees
I love these videos
Combo moves would have been OP
Topic: The BDSP Giveaway mentioned in the intro of the video. How can someone obtain a copy of BDSP when it hasn't released yet?
Rose still does that in emerald. I only have emerald and I have seen her do that.
Not gonna lie. I was the right age to feel “too old” for Ruby and Sapphire. To this day, it is the only generation I have never played. I’m sure I’m missing out, too.
Yesterday was my birthday
Theres actually 3 combo moves but nobody use it
I love registeel
Lol too old for pokemon Back then: nah I'm too old for this game Now: can I get 10 kids meals with pokemon cards.
Wait wait wait wait, what do you mean Gen 3 was when people that started with the first gen were "too old" for pokemon? That was Gen 4. Not Gen 3.
Where do you come from? Yes Yes? You came from Yes Town? I've never heard of a place like that before No No? But you had to have come from somewhere. Many years later Hau: Hey [player], did you know? Yes No Hau: =_= I haven't even finished asking the question yet. PFFFFFFFFTTTTTTT SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE! YOU CAN'T ALWAYS JUST MASH THAT A BUTTON?
Ok
Naruto references:susano'o or susano,and amaterasu
The combining of moves wouldve been so cool :((
Like fire pledge, water pledge and grass pledge?
Bruh, the way you pronounced Susano'o was so so wrong, the Uchiha are displeased with this
Wait too old for Pokémon?
It's 69 like, but I want to like so, I'm sorry memers
"[Hoenn] was many people's introduction to the franchise" *shakes head in Genwunner*
Yeah hoops when I start to watch the 3 Rd gen some how I start Ted lost interest in pkmn
D
