    • Not all slaves were treated the same and there have been thousands of slaves over different times. Being a slave in 1860 was dramatically different from being a slave in 1760. Many slaves were taught or allowed to read, and some were even treated like family. Many male plantation owners also had relationships with one of the female slaves too. It wasn't all torture and hatred to them, despite how media may portray it. Of course it's still an awful system and part of world (not just US) history, but she doesn't necessarily have to be wrong in what she's trying to say. She's obviously not well-spoken and you're taking advantage of that rather than just trying to understand her stance/point

    • They weren’t even taught English unless it was vital like for a butler who could ask to carry stuff or some other specialist slave. And actually ‘black English is a disputably accepted dialect called ‘black english’ that stems from slave improvising words the didn’t know. A few examples of differences are ‘good good’ for very good or ‘cool’ and ‘hip’ which both came from black English too.

    • Boristien405 i definitely agree with a few of your points and i don’t disregard that some slaves were definitely treated better than others, but at the end day they were slaves. what she said has truth to it but i didn’t really like how she responded to the discussion with that argument because it kinda made it seem like she was making slavery seem less bad than it actually was.
