  • I was obsessed with the Wings at that point of my life. Best commentary I heard was "I was at a fight last night and a hockey game broke out." LOL

    • H Purey I wish I was born in 1987 so I could have seen this on live tv. I was born 10 years too late.

    • @@rustyrelicsfarm2406 You missed what hockey was. The fisticuffs and physicality were a huge aspect of the game that is nearly absent from the NHL for some time now. Each team had 2 or more dedicated tough guys. Today's NHL is European hockey with a few fights every great now and then. I rarely watch. It's dizzying. A bunch of fast little guys zipping around. Skill is nice, but it's boring when nearly every player is from the same mold.

  • Totally believable, Mac was 100% focused on Lemieux.

    • @@insertnamehere313 The full game is on DVD. Me: former Detroiter living in FL. My local library had this on the shelf!!! I couldn't 'Believe' it. I think it was called "Detroit Red Wings: A Celebration of Champions - NHL Original Six Series." I tried uploading the full game to YT but it is got blocked.

  • Life long Wings fan. Moved to Virginia for a bit in the early 2000's. It was actually easier to get Wings tickets when they came to play the Caps than it was to go to the Joe. One game, some punk youngster, Rick Berry, for the Caps kept doing stupid things. Finally Shanny went over and gave him a nice big shoulder check and then dropped his gloves, took off his helmet, chucked it 60 feet away and then put his hands out in a come here gesture and yelled, "COME ON!" Berry hesitated and looked at his bench and basically got about 15 looks of, "You did this to yourself kid." So he took off his helmet and gloves and Shanny gave him a proper NHL welcome.

  • Not sure if I believe him or not, but I was there that night, and thought that someone had thrown a pop on the ice (turned out to be The Turtle's blood). I didn't see McCarty knee Lemieux; I was focused on Vernon and Roy. Wasn't until I got home and watched my tape of the game that I saw that part of it.
