As an Avs fan, big respect to Draper. Class act, an great hockey player
i like how they setup this interview with the 96-97 stanley cup champions stuff written in the background.
as a Hawks fan, I hated both teams but that rivalry of Avs-Wings in the 90s was fucking insane. great hockey
I'm also a Hawks supporter but tbh this rivalry was just sad. Two irrelevant teams full of cowards and douche bags.
@@zebraneighbor6383 irrelevant? Definitely not at the time
Wasn't as good as the Nordiques and Canadiens.
Im sure you hated us even worse when Chelios got traded to us too
That's a man's answer right there. Great interview and I like his perspective 👍
I didn't really follow hockey and still don't, but if you grew up at that time in Colorado everyone used to mock Draper. He's a real class act and a good dude.
why did they mock draper ?
@@BRIANDER100 massive rivalry
That was some of the best hockey ever!!! You couldn’t get a ticket at the Joe for a Avs game. Classic
When the reporter asked about the remorse, you could tell draper was trying not to say anything about McCarty beating the hell out of him.
I don't think I could ever forgive a hit like Lemieux's on Draper.
Damn, thats a stand up gentleman right there.
He's a good Canadian kid man he can't say anything bad about nobody unless he's on me ice
Oh he did when it had happened. 20 years is a long time.
This may well be the most Canadian interview of all time.
Classy and mature guy.
Wow, it's been that long ago? Time fly's. I run into some of the players from the Red Wings from that team in the area I grew up in Michigan, very cool and will even stop and chat with you.
When Lemieux was asked what the biggest regret of his career was, he immediately replied "my hit on Chris Draper". He said in an interview with Darren McCarty that he did not mean to hurt Draper, that he was following through on his checks and made a split secong error as Draper turned towards the boards so he didn't do it on purpose. I am a wings fan but give them the benefit of the doubt. He donates all his signing fees to charities, while I Detroit he signed pictures of him covering up from Mccarty with "the turtle". That whole incident was an accident.
Now mccarty delcares bankruptcy typical loser drunk idiot. Puts his debts with the state like flint and detroit relies on tax dollars. #nhl
Mike Leib Real Estate Trust dude, you are a terrible troll. mccarty is doing fine.
My name is Chris draper it really is
if you call your wife leaving you, your kids and the rest of his famliy disowning him, going bankrupt, haveing a gambeling problem, major drug and alchol problem and now working in a sleazy pawn shop in down town shit hole detriot doing good well then sir you need help
You got a real fucking problem Jenny. You're an absolute douche.
The aspect of ALL sports games is to get IN the opponents head, NOT remove it (or face)& the only reason why he said that he regretted the illegal hit,was for 1) ALL the negativity it brought to both his family and himself, his loss of fan's,his legacy, the lost of respect of several team players, and coaches, that no one speaks of, and the fact that Darren Mc Carty was sitting RIGHT THERE,if he truly was apologetic,as he claims, why after over 20 years has he still never personally and privately apologized to the man?
As I die hard Avs fan and hater of the Redwings for 25yrs, I'd have to agree with you. Even if it was an accident, you at least apologize for breaking the man's face.
As an avid Avs fan, I hated the Wings to the core. I watched a recent McCarty/Lemieux interview, and now I can respect every member of that Detroit team. McCarty and Draper are awesome hockey players and class acts.
Draper was a good guy and one of the few Redwings I didn't hate.
I'll never forget that horrible gruesome hit and the aftermath I don't know if Claude Lemieux ever publicly acknowledged it.
Worse - at one point he said he made Draper famous
Claude and Drapes did an interview together on that show "Off the record". It's all good now.
He has multiple times and said it was a regret.
@@davestewart1656 i think that was mccarty and lemieux
@@Rob-uc8zr it was mccarty and lemieux ....claude came out of it well
Class
Ask Cam Neely what he thinks of Lemieux. I bet you get a different answer.
Perfect answer.
Classic!!!!
As much as I hated what happened to drapes, I also am thankful that it happened. Otherwise we wouldn’t have had this war on ice. But who’s to say it will never happen again……….
Neither team won. The Wings won 3 cups and the Avs 2. The playoff series record was also 3-2 in favor of the Avs. Seems like a draw to me.
The greatest hockey team of all times The Detroit Red wings
Jamie Anglo Saxon hahahaha Habs are the best
@@thephotographer1966 Tbf Habs haven’t been relevant since 93. Wings owned the 90s and 2000s
@@poejavelski148 i was joking lol .....the most important thing is we love this sport and i cant wait to see hockey games again 👍👍
@@thephotographer1966 Fax bro!
1st class guy right there
You should also ask Mr. Bobby Clark about his dirtiest hit in history of hokkey on Kharlamov in 1972.
Kids, don't turn your back like draper did
24BIGDYL he was skating backwards after making a pass, if it was as simple as not turning his back, Claude wouldn't have gotten a 5 minute major.
udhoop that's not true, a 5 minutes major is irrelevant to the fact that Draper turned his back. Refs have given plenty of major penalties that weren't hits from behind. Frothermore refs make mistakes
24BIGDYL hey look its been a year and you're still an idiot
@@boxychubbo6922 Lemieux had a history of cheap shots and tried to do the same thing to Larionov in the same spot earlier in the game
Interviews like this are baloney. He has his private feelings, and those are the real ones. He is classy, and that's that. Give him a few drinks though....and you hear the truth. No difference with all of us and everybody who have done us wrong.
He was asked dbut it was 25 years ago....it was a bad hit but move on
For a dollar would he tell you?
Long live Anaheim & the pengiuns only real hockey teams..
This guy is lucky him and Roberts didn't go at it at Alumni game.
drapper would have gotten his face punched in for a second time, smart boy that he skated back and sat his ass on the bench
Yeah damn right. This draper gut is a joke.
Holy shit are you a trolling idiot.
4 star hero ... gary roberts, one of the ultimate hothead assholes, trying to start a fight at an alum game? weak, petty...
Colorado a high-end organization? Not since Kronke bought the club. Kronke turns clubs into Wal-Marts.
ilitch was a good owner bought the redwings in their most dire times 2000 season ticket holders in 8, but now since he is dead and the boy is running the show i hope for wings fans that he knows what he is doing,so far this season looks like a total disapointment, sad
As a fan, do you want your club to win or to make money? I don't see profits, but I see banners.
most owners are in it to make money, end of the day its a buissness.a team that makes the the stanley cup finals makes around 25 million.when nhl teams dodnt make the play offs heads roll, just look at la kings, dallas stars at the end of this season.
NCSartoris Are you fuckin stupid? Every owner's objective is to sell tickets and make money. If you belive otherwise you're dumb.
the colorado trolls on this channel are funny. look at your own team nowadays ill bet on the wings winning another cup way before the aves, even if this season is in the shitter.
two basement teams fighting for tee times in a week lmao
yeah your right the avs finished last in their division and never made the playoffs
Yeah, you can take that back now. The Wings are still in the basement while the Avs will win a Cup very soon.
S Choudhry Agreed, this comment didn’t age well at all considering these last 2 seasons the Avs have looked scary. Detroit on the other hand is lucky to get double digits worth of wins in a season.
Dirty Hit by Lemieux. Should have backed off half second.
?
Look it was the redwings frist. Look what happen with foote they did not call. There should not no fright at all
What are you saying? Learn how to type before posting......"frist" "There should not no fright at all"?
drapers face still looks a little fucked up,his one cheek bone is bigger than the other one and his one eye looks a little wobbley when he talks, and his nose was not set right when claude smashed his face into the boards.draper acted mature in this interview no sore grapes on his part,he knew he was wrong when he was skating around with his head down, and getting his drunk crack head buddy to try and i mean try and beat claude up.
he does have a fucked up face but that just makes him look like any other retired professional hockey player.
Will always be ugly
that whole era of redwings hockey was ugly, its nice to see they are years if not decades from the playoffs.hope the fans leave and the team moves or just folds, fuck ya
The Russian Five played the most beautiful hockey I have ever seen. You can't honestly think Fedorov, Larionov and Fetisov played an ugly style of hockey. Sure McCarty was a greasy player and a greasy dude but every team needs at least one player like him.
jennycraig99 oh and avalanche are doing a whole lot better these days huh?
Ross the Boss Lemieux.
Twitter started in 2006. Hipotetically if Twitter was around during the time of that hit, I'm sure C. Lemieux would of apologized via social media.
No, at the time he said he made Draper famous
Doubtful
Draper had it coming..he was taking liberties and getting chippy in the previous games.
Bill M Lemieux should have challenged him then instead of being a coward and hitting him from behind like that.
Nobody take this bait...please.
@@rongermanjr how could you forget Mike Vernon's great left that left a significant gash on Patrick Roy's face?
Kris draper was a tomato can
Draper can't skate can't play #nhl
Let us know when you win your first Stanley Cup. draper won four. You suck at being a troll.
Pretty good career for a guy Detroit picked up for a $1.
yup good forth line checking player and a great hockey board face sponge
The guy won the Selke award in 2004 you douche. Pretty sure he was a decent enough skater.
He also represented Canada 8 times in international play. Canadians know hockey. If he is good enough to represent Canada 8 times internationally, I'm pretty sure the guy can skate.
The Wings were classier than the Avs
