This retired Canadian operated prevost bus is very rusty. It stopped by for an emergency repair. They are moving from Michigan to Florida to live in the bus. It’s going to be parked for a while to get some much needed structural attention piece by piece. Road salt really has taken a toll on this bus.
The bucket truck is awesome to have and helped us add the greyhound sign to the building. A bit of maintenance got the truck running beautifully
Some much needed cleanup on the property and an update on the Wanderlodge detroit diesel 8v92TA rebuild.
What you Kelly and Jonathan have achieved at the property is amazing. I looked back at some of your old videos when you first arrived at the property and it is incredible how much you have done. Hats off to you.
As a Canadian born and raised in the prairies, I'm glad I got out of auto mechanics as an apprentice in the late 90s. Hats off to all the good mechanics out there. Living in the rust belt sucks.
Scott, that bucket truck sure has a sweet running engine! It's truly amazing what you and your family have achieved in the past few years! Congratulations!
Dang, looks like years worth of Canadian road salt and humidity. That was some crazy amount of rust.
Yup it was definitely used daily on salty wet roads which flings the salt water everywhere - for YEARS.
that bus will be a never ending problem from all that rust
I once had a car the same way.
@@excavatoreeI had a Volvo like that. Multiple holes in the body you could put your hand through. One trip I lost power steering because a hard line on the rack rusted through. It had spent its whole life in Michigan.
@@MrBirdnose I had endless problems with the fuel tank and or fuel lines rusting, but when my friend told me the thing shook like jello when I was driving down the road, I realized it was structurally unsound and, unlike a bus, not worth fixing. (EG welding a new car frame to what was left - LOL)
Place looks good. Cleans up well. That bus was a real rust bucket. Sounded pretty good though.
That's not rusty... That's crusty! 😱 And your property looks great now you've cleared up all that clutter 👍
Scott, looking good! One word of warning for your bucket truck, squirrels LOVED hydraulic lines on mine. I owned a 1988 F-800 60' Hi-Ranger for a little while, parked behind my shed. Squirrels started nesting in the boom, and 3 years in a row chewed up my hydraulic hoses. I had to extract and patch the hoses before I could use the thing each year.
It's not rusting, it's just creatively following Colin Chapman's mantra of adding lightness....
Ah, they're speed holes! 😆
Salt on the roads is a guaranteed destroyer of any metal.
Copper alloy holds up well.
With any vehicle I've owned I put some home heating oil and used motor oil in a spray bottle and soak everything underneath. Even the muffler and it seems to work at keeping the rust away.
The Greyhound sign makes the building look really good 🔧👍
Welcome to my life fixing rusty cars up here!
Nice job on everything, cleaning up the property, Looking good!, organized really good!, Love your videos...
I'm glad the bucket truck worked out, Scott. It looked like that project was going downhill whilst being towed uphill. But all's well that ends well.
It’s already paid for itself
One bus rusting away, another being revived. The bus business continues and we get to watch more. 😊
Feeling of pride when your place looks good & organized.....easy for clutter to get out of hand.....especially working on so many projects....
that woodwork you put on the front of the shop looks beautiful! well done!
All that looks normal to me here in Windsor Ontario. Welcome to the rust belt. If you dont spray oil on it... its gone in 10 years.
Hello Scott and Co from South Africa 👋
Isn't it always amazing how much stuff we accumulate.
I see them like this every day. Owners do not wash them when they are run on salty roads in the winter time.
keep the clips coming
Run Forest, RUN. WOW what a rust bucket.
You need a tuna boat sized vat of EvapoRust to lower the whole bus into and let is soak for a month or so, and see if anything looking like a bus comes out. 😉
Could name that bus Rusty ! Sign on garage looks great !
I'd been thinking--from what I've seen on your channel--that the Eagles tend to be the rustiest. But this Prevost is beyond belief.
Rust never sleeps 😮
You have yourself a beautiful place there
You got the spring cleaning done while it was still winter.
Salt water and salt on the roads up here. Eats cars alive lol. We call it weight reduction lol. Man you guys have come a long way since working outside in the rain and snow. Seems soooo long ago. Kudos to you guys for all the help you have given old bus owners.
The property looks really great. ✌️❤️😁
Yea, the dam Road salt of the great lakes area. I know Chicago area does but I thought Canada was Better. Disposable like a bic lighter. Love those southern Vehicles.
Nice place!
You need to relogo the bucket truck to have BGM on the doors.😊
The shop looks great cleaned up 👍🏻
...my eyes got very large and eyebrows raised after your question...good one... fuel injection is fine, but I'd rather be blown....
That type of rust is typical where I live. At a minimum salt should be rinsed from everything in the spring. If not, vehicles will rust faster in the summer with the heat and moisture giving the salt something to work with. Oil pan replacement (among may other things) is cottage industry here. Another problem with RV's around here, even the low mileage ones..........they get driven to somewhere warm and back during the salt season. If not rinsed, the heat and moisture from the warm area's will eat at them all winter.
That bus must have run the Poseidon route.
To watch a dream come together great work guys
Ode sell that bus quick smart! Place is looking really good Scott! 🇦🇺🍺🍺
You have the cable, and a bucket boom, put a lightning rod on the bucket and have it protect the mountain!
If the engine wasn’t all computerized i would do that.
I think it's funny the bucket truck is still holding the spool of wire that it came with and that the cooler that was tied onto the back is still on it as well😂😂😂
Looks like a snow plow trucks I've worked on. Got to love salt and mag-cloride.
Had a friend call for an 'expert opinion' (inspection) on a 32 foot cabin cruiser (boat) he was looking at. The price was well below market and gave pause. The sales office said engine rebuilds had been started and were on going. Ahh, no, either the heat exchangers had failed or they had been bypassed (salt water) and both engines were ruined beyond saving. It would make a very nice live aboard.
Rust buckets come in all sizes. Take Greyhound and leave the driving to us. Thing looks happy now.
You ever outside? It's starting to look nice and clean. Keep it up make my t v show or program
That bus should be in the scrap yard, I have seen better ones in the junkyard. A friend of mine just bought a 1995 prevost with a 12.7 series 60 and zero rust for $8500 at auction.
I like the Greyhound sign, but now you need the other big three. Trailways Jefferson Lines and Peter Pan.
That bus was rooted....!!!!!
It almost looks like that bus was driven on a beach and was caught by a wave or two bro. Safe travels. Ken.
In really Northern States it gets so cold the salt isnt as effective so they spray the salt in the trucks with a calcium chloride brine... Ive even seen pellets of CaCl added... Either way it is caustic to metal Used to use water with CaCl in farm tires (tubed) to add weight... Heard a story from a friend who had a tractor tire get punctured in the field had cacl in it... He came back a few hours later had eaten a hole in the metal rim... I live in Ohio buy southern cars and I fluid film the heck outta them... My Honda has had 2 gallons fluid film over the last 2 years theres so much in the body panels it weeps out the lower seams when it's hot out!!!!
Sign looks good. Now all you need is the dog to go over it.
“A Detroit is usually protected by oil” 🤣 That poor bus! It seems to run okay but it’s hard to look at all that corrosion and things almost falling off. 😢
I know how it is when a client rolls up with a rusted out vehicle and wants it repaired. I have tried to talk a few out of spending their hard earned with me because the rust is beyond the pale. I have a Mercedes SL here for a rebuild which is so rusty that the fuel cap is a solid blob of rust but the owner is determined to have it restored. He bought a used rear cut ,and was a bit bemused when I told him he only needs to find a good front half now and he has a complete project....😂😂
Yup - we use LOTS of salt on most roads here n Canada, and (as you can see) most metals DO NOT like salt! That being said - I've NEVER seen an oil pan rust out! That's CRAZY! I'd be REALLY worried about the structural integrity of that bus!
When working hard yard spaces get clogged up untill you can get time to have a grand sort out ❤
Whoa that thing probably loses a pound rusting out, bumping and blowing down the road. That's a tough engine tho.
What they use to de-ice the roads acts like a degreaser, must be gnarly stuff
even the rust is rusting 😎
And people say if you live in the Midwest you'll be driving a rust bucket. BGM is lookin pretty spiffy. But I was wondering if you had gotten rid of the old Oliver that Hamiltonvill Farms gave you?
I would turn it around in the case of a jumpstart
Spent all that time up in Canada with all the snow and looks like it never saw a pressure washer.
Makes you wonder what they use to pretreat and treat the roads with in the winter months.
That's a shame. I love Prevost busses, but that puppy is done for.
Maybe someone has a Large Greyhound dog image you could place ?? Nice weather you had GM🎉
Put an IN sign over one door and OUT over the other.
Wow. Just wow. That's a whole lotta oxide.
that bus must have come from Ontario lol. that is pretty much how most vehicles around here look after 10-20 years with no under oiling. cars are lucky if they make it to 20 without being undercoated. actually just saw someone on facebook looking for a new vehicle after having the frame brake on their current vehicle. also had to give a friends neighbor bad news that the rear sub frame on his car was rotted out.
I have one of those greyhound signs in my entry way. What were they on too kool
The bus rust is because in eastern canada they put way too much salt on road.i got kw t-800 lubetruck with c15 cat eng the wiring ecm was total destroy due salt in ontario.finning cat dealer in calgary branch said was worst in branch history they saw truck will not start.they have order complete harness for ecm and put inside dash.the invoice was steep but truck run well after.greyhound in calgary never like get bus from back east due lots issue about rust.thanks video expose was happen.😊
WOW
Came out of Ontario Canada ? Prevost are known for rusting out , that is the old ones!
I wonder if that bus was submerged at some point.
ive had some pretty good luck with some of the rust neutralizer sprays. If the owner wanted to pay another 100 , couple spray bottles and an hour could slow it down some
looking at the length of them screws for the sign i think the building would fall down before the sign does.......
when you at the top of the bucket you rung whatcha brung
I'm surprised the rubber hoses weren't rusty!
I thought Canada had regular safety inspections like we have in Europe?
must be the new light weight rust model., It save fuel
We call that ""yard art" here in central Alabama. Fill it up with old lawn mowers or rent it out.
Does JB Weld come in a 55 gallon drum?
The place is starting to take shape!…are you and the Ms still living in your bus under the awning?
Scott and the Mrs. both live in the apartment at the back of the garage. He's done a few videos on the apartment and how it came together.
Yes it’s a small studio apartment attached to the shop. Bedroom in the loft.
@@BusGreaseMonkey I like it!! We have a shop with the same kind of arrangement. Walk right out of the back entrance into shop full of equipment under constant repair, like the man of constant sorrow….lol
That bus has had a lot of weight reduction.
What is that word pulley that is off on the end of a stick on the lower left hand side? Looks like it's run off the crank?
Makes me wonder if the bus was that rusty when the current owner bought it. If it was, I wonder why he went ahead and bought it in that condition. It looks like a money pit in regard to fixing that rust damage.
Purchased it with all that rust
I can't get over that Canadian vehicle inspections would even put a sticker on it. A bus like that could be parked and lived in but, never driven again. At best, a temporary transit permit to move the bus from the seller to the buyer's property.
Shoulda asked Eric O. to come down to TN and work on it.
How do these rusty old buses maintain their license? Are there no yearly inspections.
Rust from salt used on Michigan roads (and other states that use salt). Canada may also use salt on roads in winter.
Id run away from that one
It’s not surprising the rust in Canada ,they are know for the extreme amount of road salt they use .
Canada has nothing on New York. Government here seems to think it can outsmart mother nature and the result (beside being costly and wasteful and stupid) is destructive. Once a road is cleared and just wet, the plow/salt truck will go by my house another half dozen times polishing the blade on bare wet pavement and spreading salt. Once the road finally dries, it is as white as the snow next to it and vehicles create giant salt clouds driving on it. That salt dust permeates everything down wind. Rust like this bus is the norm here.
My guess is that bus ran on a lot of salty winter roads and was not washed. Probably parked in a heated garage with moisture.
Canadian charter service bus
Hi love watching these incredible buses you repair.. can I ask a question..??? does your son still work for you? Have I missed a video of Maybe, you saying where your son is, as I don’t see him no more at all.. sorry to be a dumbass .. I hope this question is okay to ask xx regards, Ray, UK x
That bus is just fit for the scrapyard I'm sure there's better in the scrapyard
If they make it to Florida, maybe they need to decommission the bus. Just a thought.....
When are you gonna drop the spool?
Why is it bothering you? Big deal i have extra weight helping the center of gravity. No reason to dump it.
I wonder why not braze it ? I'm sure you would have had to drop the oil pan though. A vehicle coming from Canada is going to be a rust bucket...
Dropping the pan could have been a disaster. Breaking bolts etc i didn’t want to touch it. Stopped the leak and let him get to his new home in Florida then he can get a new oil pan
And hopefully a new bus to bolt it to. @@BusGreaseMonkey
Could be that it was partially submerged...in water somewhere ?? GM ??
Would all the corrosion be due to the salt they used on the roads up in Canada?
Yes road salt for sure. It lived most of it’s life running in Canada
Controls in bucket don’t work?
No the entire unit in the bucket is missing. Just a 20 pin or something like that plug. Someday i will make switches maybe but it’s not a big deal right now. Everything works from the ground
What advice would you give to those people? Hey you need a new bus?
