Very beautiful unique "Book" lighter - Perfect restoration
I came across a unique and ancient lighter from World War I. Lighter made by hand from brass and copper. On the surface is a very beautiful carving with the inscription (Vauquois 1916-1917). Probably this inscription in memory of the battle of Vauquois (France). This antique petrol lighter is made in the shape of a book. I have never met such a lighter. If you know more about this lighter, write in the comments! Thank you!
I received this lighter in a very bad condition, its surface was rusty and dirty. The lighter needed complete restoration and repair. In my video I will show the whole process of restoration of this antique and extremely rare lighter.
I am sure that the result of the restoration will surprise you!) Good viewing!)

was that coke u used?
Unavellesa
What was the powder you put in the Coca-Cola when cleaning the lighter? I'm guessing it might have been ba"king soda but I wasn't sure.
It's really cool. If you sell restored items, I think there will be many buyers.
Vauquois Hill (butte de Vauquois) was a Hill (actually a village) were have been bitter fights beteren The french and The german in WW 1. This is apparently a piece to rember the batterij. With the initials of the owner
Someone made this lighter in memory of this battle. Thanks for the info)

I absolutely love this! One of my favorites that you have done! ❤❤❤
The Restorer restored it. You're my hero Mr. Restorer Man!!
Thank you very much!)
Beautiful piece and your work as usual, amazing. Congratulations! On the Battle of Vaquois i found this, and it sounds like a nightmare: During the 4-year battle for Vauquois Hill, about 14,000 soldiers lost their lives along this tiny portion of the Western front, 500 meters long. 519 explosions of mines were recorded (199 German, 320 French). As mines chambers were dug deeper and deeper, mines were loaded with increasing amounts of explosives: up to 60 tons ! Vauquois Hill is a huge termites’ nest: about 17 km of galleries and 184 rooms in the German underground barracks; about 5 km of galleries under the French lines.
Thanks for this historical information. War is terrible (
Thank you for appreciating my work😉👍💚
Amazing work so pleased its not lost forever "Last we forget"
Thank you very much!)
Had to look up Vauquois. A lot of mine warfare connected with the Battle of Verdun took place there. That is certainly a significant historical find. NICE JOB!!
Thanks for the information and comment!😉
The lighter was clearly made to appear as a small book. Older books had raised bands along the spine where leather or cord was used to help secure the pages into the bound book. Your polishing ended up removing those features. I assume it was either unintended or unavoidable. Also the area you polished so it appeared silver toned was most likely to appear as gilding of the page edging Either way I wish you had been able to preserve that feature. All in all a very nice restoration to a both functional and decorative lighter. Nice job.
😉
I agree -- the raised bands on the spine of the book were obvious in the unrestored condition but were ground out and effaced in the restoration, as if the restorer did not know that they were integral to the design of a book's binding.
Grinding away a major feature is not very impressive.
Fraudulent 😠
What a wonderful restoration. Well done.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Amazing and beautiful restoration.
Thanks!)
It looks to be in the shape of a hard cover book. Beautiful restoration of this lighter. It's certainly unusual looking! :)
Thank you!) I haven't seen lighters of this kind yet - it's probably handmade
The " book shape " was a great classic in trench art lighters during WW1 . They were built in the 2nd line trenches by skilled soldiers with brass and copper issued from shell cases , cartridges ...
Nas mãos de um artista toda raridade volta a brilhar. Parabéns pela sua arte.
A piece of our history. Thank you very much to restore it. 💙🤍❤👍👍🙋🏻♂️

Thank you very much for your support) Have a nice day!)
During World War 1, Vauquois was the site of violent mine warfare,[2] also in connection with the Battle of Verdun (1916). From 1915 to 1918, French and German tunneling units fired 519 separate mines at Vauquois, and the German gallery network beneath the village hill (the Butte de Vauquois) grew to a length of 17 kilometres (11 mi). Vauquois was destroyed and many huge craters and dugouts remain.
Thanks for the info😎👍

After removing the dirt and heavy corrosion lumps, I'm interested why you didn't just use copper and brass polish. They work wonders and bring things back to a lovely shine. Thanks for your reply?
It had to be done perfectly. And remove all dirt and rust. You will not achieve such a result only with a polish
Amazing! So beautiful 🤩

Hello ! Vauquois is a French commune located in the department of Meuse, in the Grand Est region. The village is known for the battle of Vauquois which took place during the First World War from February 15 to March 23, 1915 between the French and American armies on one side, and the German army on the other.
Thank you very much for the historical information
I’ve heard of a Bic lighter, but never a BOOK lighter!
