  • I have BP2 and my mania feels great. I feel confident, silly, energetic, wanting to go out and do stuff etc. This might last 3-2 days before I sink into a manic/depressive episode. I already have severe depression, and my depressive episodes make it a hell lot more worse. They last several more days until I'm back to normal- and then the cycle continues. And as an artist pursuing art as a career, it's terrible for worth ethic. It sucks but I always manage to push through. Those are my expierences with BP2, have a lovely day :)

    • Your experience resonates so much with mine’s. I’m in the academic field and when in a hyphomanic episode I tend to embark in too many projects. Then depression hits and I can barely get myself out of bed. It is really debilitating but meds such as mood stabilizers have helped me so much. Also, I now learned to stop saying yes to everything. I ask for some time to reconsider and I talk with my therapist or my loved ones. In that way I can get a second opinion not influenced by hyphomania. I’m sending hugs your way and know we are not alone 💙🧡

I'm depressed for days out of the week and then if i'm lucky, get like two days where I am able to feel like i can achieve anything. I'm curious if I try to work on those factors that contribute to the depressive episodes,( like being insecure, having low self worth, feeling hopeless)...would somehow make these depressive episodes more manageable. Would you mind sharing how you cope on the days that you feel down and out? Thanks again. Hope youre doing okay.

It’s slight, but something in the corner of your vision will move and it’s just enough that you stop what you’re doing and look. Like someone is trying to get your attention from like your 5 o’clock (position). I also hear things frequently, my wife compares it to how our dog will be laying in the floor and perk up because of a noise who knows how far away. I’ll stop what I’m doing and listen for a moment and ask others if they heard it. To be clear it’s never as exaggerated as shown in the video, I’ve never seen a full figure of a person/creature or heard voices.

I'm still in shock and I'm really struggling but I want to say that even in my own suffering where there are times where I don't want to be here anymore, I still keep going without help but I know I need to keep going wherever I can get it. Please, anyone who reads this: No MATTER what you are going through, please take care of yourselves. Learn to love yourself. Whether you are dealing with a loss, a mental health struggle or anything that affects you, just do because you do deserve it. I'm proud of you even if you managed to just brush your teeth today. It's okay not to be okay. My bipolar episodes / cycles have become even more intense than I ever thought it would be after my dad died but I know he would want me to keep trying. It's not going to be easy. It never is at the beginning but it will ease as long as you are familiar and learn to accept your episodes and to not feel guilty for it. Hopefully you will all find what is right for you 😔💜 Years ago, it was suggested by a psychologist that it is highly likely that I suffer from Bipolar Disorder. However, I've never been properly diagnosed because I've always been scared to get checked. The reason for this is because people have always brushed off my mental health or looked at me like I'm crazy as if my mental health is fine but there is something wrong with me. People can be really judgemental sometimes. This video was a nice reminder by not being judgemental about the topic and pretty informative in such a calming sense. It was nice to see. Thank you.

Seeing myself in this cute little character is a nice change from the monster this used to make me feel like when I was unmedicated, unaware of my condition, and abusing drugs that worsened it. I'm in a much better place now, but I'm still haunted by some of the things I've done during manic episodes, and knowing that people can understand that I don't enjoy or want my manic episodes when I'm not actively psychotic makes me feel better.

At 19 I was diagnosed with mixed bipolar, which is both bipolar 1 and 2. I'm 22 now and I will say that going from 19 to 22 was not easy for me. I was on a bunch of different medications that didn't work for me. One medication actually caused me to start screaming in my sleep. I ended up stopped taking any medications because they didn't work and they made me feel worse and completely numb to everything. I couldn't feel emotions correctly. I was actually okay for awhile since I was finding things to keep grounded and but lately things have been getting bad and now I'm stuck between staying off the meds and find new things to keep me grounded or go back through the process of finding a medication that will work for me.

    • I am 16 my Grandmother has bipolar depression, as well as My mom and her brother, of 4 kids. My uncle takes Seizure meds and his doctors make him take bipolar meds along with them. So he is the only one who is really “diagnosed” by a doctor. My mom and grandma show all symptoms but want no help. My grandma used to be a hard-core drunk until she stopped up until 7-8 years ago. I don’t remember everything, but I do remember a lot of stuff very vaguely. My mom has always been a drinker and it never got this bad until quarantine, because she started working at her computer and not having to go into work. She drank all day, everyday, and probably still drinks very frequently even though she’s back at work. We’ve never had a good holiday, for all of the years that I can remember. I’ve moved out of my moms house and my dad now has full custody. And I’ve grasped the whole situation but not until lately have I been thinking I might be bipolar as well. My dad tells me it’s because “I have anger issues” and we all do. And his wife tells me it’s because I’m a teenager. And that if I thought I was bipolar, wouldn’t it be pretty common that a lot of other teenage girls thought they had it to and want to be diagnosed ? Well yeah. But is it hereditary in their family ? Are they the product of their moms daughter. She said that since I am so self aware as well that I probably don’t have bipolar because most people who are bipolar don’t even want to acknowledge it. But the only reason I am so self aware is because I’ve been living with it, and observing it my entire life. Which sucks because I talk to my dad and his wife so much and they know everything. I think it’s a very high chance I have bipolar. Especially considering my grandmother had it and 2/4 of her kids got it too. I’d really like to talk to a therapist and see what they think. Because I flip out on my dad and he says it’s just my anger issues, but I feel like talking to a therapist would help. Its not just anger issues. all the medication seems scary though.

Men with ADHD are more hyperactive like stereotypical face of ADHD. The main thing about ADD & ADHD is trouble focusing, staying focused, forgetting and being overwhelmed by tasks that are not explained in detail and/or not broken down in smaller parts. Bipolar is more everything gets to you. My mom has bipolar type 2 and doesn't forget about things. She has hard time calming down when she is upset at people. She can work with only 4 hours asleep. Her episodes only last hours to a day. So make sure you have good doctor if you're a female. I don't have bipolar 2. I struggle to get through the day if I have less than 7 hours of sleep. I forget if things are not repeated and/or written down for me. Make sure your doctor knows the difference between Female ADHD and bipolar disorders

I have ADHD combined type as well as bipolar II, and being treated for ADHD was not enough to manage my bipolar symptoms. if you improve with treatment for either of these but you still experience pertinent symptoms, get tested for the other one (if you can)

    • This was spot on. I wasn’t medicated for ADHD or even considered that I might have it up until this year… yet I suffered symptoms since high school. Typically, adhd is associated with hyperactive/fidgety behaviour-but it really shows up differently per individual. My symptoms were trouble concentrating (especially if I hear sounds/music in the background), easily losing track of what I say mid conversation ( I start to think of too many thoughts at once so I have to make the conscious effort to stay on-topic), forgetfulness unless I write it down/set an alarm for it, easily discouraged/sad about a task that seems overwhelming to the point where I have to break it down into small steps in order to ease into it

Then you can't do your best at it, when everything get to normal you realised how bad you messed up your life

  • My family tree has a history with the bipolar disorder on both sides, and this explains a lot for me... especially with the hypo-mania and depressive states, I could be having the most amazing time with my friends and then something could go completely wrong and just by thinking about it I start feeling down and depressed... I get really passionate about things I enjoy and do and I blabber a LOT, I can get pretty angry with people even tho I never realize it. Its almost as if I drift off into this unconcious zone when I get angry, and its super weird. I'm not self-diagnosing myself whatsoever but this video definitely helped me realize some of the similarities. Thank you Psych2Go for providing such amazing, welcoming videos for curious viewers like me!

  • Another note: Bipolar 2 can "become" Bipolar 1, but once you're Bipolar 1 there's no going back. Personal experience: I was able to manage Bipolar without medication for over a decade. Then my symptoms were getting progressively worse. When I realized I was a walking ball of irritation (mania can also present as anger and irritated moods, something my doctor informed me of recently), I sought help and made decision to be put on mood stabilizers. Best decision ever for me. Yes, it means monthly check ins and periodic blood work to make sure my levels are still safe, but that's a small price to pay to be a better person for those I love.

    • There are also other kinds of BD that are not recognized by all psichiatry schools. Mine (and i guess yours too by what you shared) are of that kind. somewhat dormant BD that can get very aggresive in short periods of time (months in my case). I was also diagnosed pretty late with BD because of that. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety at 16, going in and out of therapy through the years. Was just properly diagnosed with BD last year (at 33 yo), and just because my brother had a psychotic breakdown from BD1.

Its very difficult being bipolar because when I have hypomania episodes I feel like Wonder Woman like I can do anything so when I come crashing down it very difficult to see the positive things around me but I'm lucky to have a great support system and a mom who is also bipolar so it's a new journey that might not be the best but I'm dealing with it.
