We're probably about 4 episodes away from someone building an island floating in the sky. I think we can suspend some of our disbelief about a crane arm being slightly too long.
Structural Engineer here (P.E. in US, P.Eng in Canada, and C.E. in UK /// not a licensed SE) and I agree completely about enjoying the content for what it is. However - if the truss was wider and angled up at ~5 degrees and had another angled component (either down like a cable or up like a hydraulic cylinder) it would look incredibly realistic.

The Mumbo/Stress combo was the funniest part of episode one to me. They gel so well and I didn't stop laughing at their antics.

Yeah, I loved the nods to past hermitcraft events, makes the episode seem like its being documented in a scrapbook.
@@toxicfox6867 I mean you’d have to find a program to use. I use adobe illustrator but that’s a bit steep for most beginners, I can recommend using a program like procreate (if you have an iPad or tablet) or anything you find honestly. Another thing I would really recommend it to get yourself a notebook and whenever you feel inspired to draw in the notebook. You can go into technical design without a plan but it’s often more difficult and frustrating (for me at least) especially when things don’t turn out how you want, but if you sketch out a plan to guide you that can be a big help, it dosent even need to be a good drawing or anything just a layout to help guide you.

ideas for accessing your base: - vines as ladders - if you want it to look like it is in the process of being lifted up, you could have stuff falling off it that makes a staircase (idk if this makes sense) - a bridge that uses slabs or other partial blocks to look like it doesn't actually touch the suspended structure - a bridge that uses pistons extended by a button that you can shoot to activate

I can hear so much excitement in your voice throughout this episode that really adds to the collective joy and anticipation that everyone has for this season! Out of anything else that I could point out, I really really love the style of the new title cards. It seriously adds a lot more personality to those transitional segments of the video, especially with all the fine details and callbacks to prior seasons that resonate with long-time viewers. Per usual, I'm looking forward to the rest of the fun that's yet to be fully experienced, throughout the rest of the season!
I agree! I think the video could spend longer on them (a few more seconds) or diffuse them further out (like larger chapter chunks instead of what it feels like now which is shorter chapter chunks - while still remaining conceptually cohesive). Maybe a little sound as well? To really highlight and integrate them even further? Honestly they’re great and it’s so fantastic to see more of Mumbo’s other skills and interests fuse with his hermit craft work. 😊

As an Aerospace engineering student -'Water dynamics' could be fluid dynamics or hydrodynamics. Close enough though -Your structure is cantilevered. Not impossible but realistically its gonna start bending and oscillating at the lowest bit of force. If you want it to 'feel' secure you could add either an angled bracket support below it or above. Hell for above you could use 'cables' (which I have done before with leads. Hiding a mob up top to tie it to)
If the part sticking into the mountain was longer, would that make it secure? Or would the end still be too heavy and snap off?
There's a limit of how deep it can go for it to have noticeable effect (as if too deep wont change anything since the distance is to far) Moreless depends on the material properties (ie Young's Modulus) for its strength and stiffness
@SkyeChronicler-gt3sr The depth of the truss starts to matter more as you go deeper into the mountain, where failure is going to be inside the truss, and not the truss-to-mountain connection. Think of a piece of spaghetti hanging off of a table, if the length hanging off of the table is too long, no matter how much spaghetti is overlapping the table, the bit overhanging will snap

It's really just down to how strong the connection is, and what materials are being used. But, yes going in further (into the mountain) would make it stronger, going out further would make it less stable. I wouldn't trust any material to hold a connection like that, though. Mumbo talks about fluid dynamucs in a boat, because it would be exhausting to row. But he didn't consider that one usually sits with the back facing the direction one's travelling in.
It's one of those times where it's better to sacrifice realism for gameplay, since if you were backwards you couldn't see where you're going. Now there are small boats like canoes and kayaks that you paddle facing forwards, but the paddles you use for that are pretty different from the oars on a minecraft boat. It's one big one that you alternate sides with rather than the two smaller ones. ...Man, it's been forever since I've kayaked. I need to find an excuse to do that again. And a kayak.
