  • Don’t see why so many people are bashing Marc here. He’s one of the best refs in the sport hands down. He used to/still does train and compete. He knows how it feel to be in there with 4oz gloves on. Probably 99.99% of people commenting on his skills as a ref have never stepped inside a ring/cage etc. Have some respect for the man.

    • There was a real issue in the Covington fight. He stopped the fight because of an alleged eye poke, but the replay showed that Colby hit him on the other side of the face. There were two stops that saved Usman. With saving Usman twice, then had a questionable stoppage to end the fight. I'm not saying you can't make a mistake as a ref, but not addressing the flagrantly staged eye poke is an issue. I didn't see it live. Mistakes happen, but to act like Colby is unfairly criticizing him is a joke.

Totally understandable to pause a fight when you see a fighter wincing in pain after a supposed nut shot, whether it really was a nut shot or not... I'd rather him stop the fight due to a fake nut shot than keep a fight going after an actual nut shot only for the guy who received it to lose because of it.

  • Goddard is usually a decent ref in my opinion but to see him defend his awful stoppage in Covington/Usman makes me lose a lot of respect. It takes a great ref to acknowledge mistakes (i.e. Herb Dean) and learn from them instead of laughing at the fighter he screwed over. I hope to not see him officiating any more title matches but the commissions are notorious for assigning bad refs.

Even tho i was going for colby that was an early stoppage and multiple bad calls but fair play to usman

    • @luki508 spot on there, i think unfortunately that some people are so enamored with Covingtons weirdly bitchy persona that they believe what comes out of his mouth. I've come to realise that those who are *BLINDLY* supporting Covington and criticising those he puts a nickname to are the same people who would be watching WWF wrestling as kids... yet haven't grown out of the whole mindset yet, you know dude? Personally speaking i absolutely love watching Covington compete as i believe he's ridiculously talented... but his whole previously planned put downs and inability to accept reality really takes away from his clear and obvious ability in the cage. That guy frustrates me more than anything as normally I'd be supporting him fully as he's such a talent... but his utter nonsense he comes out with in interviews makes him so phoney.
