Piers Morgan Discusses Ben Shapiro Rap With Tom MacDonald, DJ Vlad And Talib Kweli

2024 ж. 31 Қаң.
381 275 Рет қаралды

Following Piers Morgan's interview with Ben Shapiro off the back of his success with anti-hip hop track Facts with rapper Tom MacDonald, Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by Tom to discuss the furore and backlash the song has received.
Tom tells Piers why he doesn't think the song is cultural appropriation and suggests the hip hop community is 'hypocritical'.
Piers is then joined by DJ Vlad and Talib Kweli to discuss whether Tom and Ben's track is offensive, with Piers pointing out there doesn't seem to be as much outrage over John Legend rewriting the lyrics to 'Baby It's Cold Outside'.

  • Tom has had a lot of hits, with millions of views…this is definitely not the first one. He has never said anything offensive, disrespectful, derogatory, no profanity, nothing that’s out of this world disgusting like a lot of other rap songs. It’s absolutely ridiculous that anyone would ever come forward and say he needs to apologize for something he’s said. He has only spoken the truth but, people can’t handle the real truth. They can’t open their minds to a world in which they’re not the victim anymore. I mean, get your big boy and big girl pants on and actually think outside the box for a change. The world is not always the way you perceive it to be and everything isn’t always about one person, a group of people, and especially not race. Tom says things that people should know, he’s only helping. All I ever see is the people in charge trying their best to hurt us and divide us when we should be coming together to support one another during this extremely tough time in our history. Tom’s saying wake up, look at what they’re doing to us, look at what they’re doing to our country, look at what we’ve been made to believe, look at the lies we’re being told. Tom’s not racist at all, he’s never said anything racist. Rap music does tend to be about things that shouldn’t be promoted. Why does anyone want to promote being a gangbanger, shooting people, doing drugs, and being overly promiscuous? It’s a double standard and it needs to stop. Just put into perspective the fact that, for instance, the song WAP with all of it’s absolutely ridiculous lyrics is okay for everyone to hear on TV, on the radio, and on social media but, there’s an uproar over Tom releasing music about people coming together no matter the race or gender, loving the country he lives in, being patriotic, and standing up to all the crap that ALL OF US (meaning the general population) has been going through. Tom shouldn’t apologize for anything he’s done regarding his music, if you don’t understand what he’s saying or what he means…I feel sorry for you and you need to get your head out of the mud. All you have to do is take Tom’s lyrics and take another mainstream rap song’s lyrics and compare the two. You’ll see a huge difference and you’ll see that what he’s saying isn’t offensive at all. I guess some people just don’t want anyone to expose what’s been going on. I guess some people just want to stay blind. Well, they can stay that way but don’t pick a fight or demand an apology when there’s no reason for either. People just want attention these days and they’ll do anything for it no matter how ridiculous it may make them look. I support Tom, he needs to keep on chugging along and keep making the music that the world needs to hear. The guy and his girlfriend Nova are extremely talented and they deserve praise for going their own way and speaking their minds. All of Tom’s songs have a message and you can’t say that about too many other artists. Most artists put out mind numbing crap…Tom puts out music that resonates with people, that should resonate with all of us.

  • Wow...as a black woman, that black dude on the panel is one of the reasons people think we're stupid and jump to racism as an excuse for everything. Look at the billboard top 100 and tell me the last time there was an ethical rap song on there. Compare that to the number of songs there are about thugs, hos, cars and money. No one cares about the underground movement - they care about what's popular - because what's popular is a reflection of current culture and a good indication of what's coming up in the near future. The song was not racist - it was a commentary about social issues that are of concern to everyone no matter the colour of your skin.

  • This song goes after wokeness not black rappers specifically and it took 10 minutes of watching this to see all the red flags that Talib is himself part of that woke establishment. First of all, Tom Macdonald should "apologize"? This is exactly the culture were giving the middle finger to. Not only should Tom not apologise, he should double down! Saying NO to the group whos clearly willing to offend others while trying tell US whats appropriate is exactly whats needed right now. On that point, Talib clearly said that there shouldnt be a rap debate with 3 white people and one black guy, which actually throws DJ Vlad under the bus despite the fact that he agrees with Talib. This is what i mean about the woke left not caring in the slightest whether or not something is offensive. They just dont want anybody to offend THEM or peoole who think like them. Also, white people generally understand that most rap artists are black. Thats been true since the birth of modern rap although not everywhere. Either way, Rap is already reguarly debated in circles where a majority are black. Thats incredibly common. So the fact that he said what he did because he just happens to be in a conversation about rap with three white guys, one who wasn't even present to defend himself, says more about Talib than anyone else on the panel. And like I said, this song is about wokism more broadly. To quote Ben Shapiro in the song... "My comments section, all woke karens" If anything those who are white and woke are even more ridiculous and deserving of the middle finger. The movement we're referencing should be scrutinized and exposed for what it is, thats the bottom line, and its because they are what they claim they hate. They'll shut you down forcefully when given the opportunity and then complain about how you're the problem, the racist, or the "threat to democracy" to use their new bumper sticker slogan.

    • sometimes it’s glorified, but more often than not it’s just a brutally honest telling of a person’s life experiences. many rappers who struggle with addiction write lyrics about being trapped in that cycle, and how much suffering it can bring. that allows anyone else who has had that experience to relate to the music. just like many gangster rappers back in the day weren’t glorifying violence, they were telling violent stories from their own lives. the violence was a byproduct of their upbringing and surroundings. and yet other people in those circumstances could relate to the music. they also saw how it was for someone to make it out of that life, Biggie always rapped about how he used to be caught in the cycle of violence but rap was a way out for him, and a way to provide for his daughter and his mother. Biggie often celebrated no longer having to be involved in violence in his music. but most of the violent lyrics were again often referring to the violence as something they wished they could escape. you did have a lot of young people misunderstanding that message and associating violence with being cool, just like today you have young people associating drugs with being cool because their favorite rappers have music about struggling with addiction. i’ll admit that some rappers straight up glorify things like violence and drug use, but i think they too misunderstand why so much of hip hop’s subject matter deals with heavy topics like that. it would be like a female rapper making music about how she used to be a sex worker but rap allowed her to get away from that life and how terrible it was, and then everyone thinks she’s glorifying prostitution and completely misses the message.
