Piers Morgan And Clay Travis Discuss Transgender Athletes With Lia Thomas' Former Teammate

2024 ж. 29 Қаң.

Lia Thomas made global headlines when she became the first transgender person to win a national college title for swimming - leading to outrage among her female competitors. She's now launched a legal fight to overturn a ban on transgender athletes competing in women's sports.
Piers Morgan Uncensored is joined by Thomas's former teammate Paula Scanlan, who thinks Lia being able to compete was "incredibly unfair", along with OutKick's Clay Travis and Piers Morgan Uncensored contributor Ava Santina.
Clay agrees with Paula, pointing out it's the equivalent of him coming out as "trans-age" and deciding to compete against Little Leaguers. However Ava thinks Lia "is a woman and therefore should compete as a woman".

She’s actually anti-women’s rights as she’s asking all women to accept a massive competitive disadvantage in consideration of the feelings of trānsCompetitors. Which is fine if that’s her personal opinion but she’s being disingenuous in her presentation of it.

My answer: Part1. Summary I think we need a balance here. I find both of the ff are wrong: Choice1 - Trans women are women hence they can. → misogynistic Choice2 - Trans women are men hence they can't. → transphobic I find the ff Choice3 hypocritical to say: 'there's no biological differences and hence they should be allowed' and yet 'women's chess should exist even though there are no biological differences.’ Choice4: Well my guess is you can argue they didn't transition overnight so they experienced discrimination throughout their lives in particular maybe they thought they were gay at some point and received discrimination for that. Part2. The full version: Part2.1 Yosha Iglesias (@IglesiasYosha) posted on 2024Jan05 / 2024Jan04 : 'To be against trans women playing women's competition you have to believe that cis women can't play chess ie. be misogynistic' It seems there's a little dilemma here. CaseB : If you're saying women WOULD BE just as good as men ADJUSTED for sexism, then trans women have an advantage in that they didn't necessarily have experienced sexism to compensate for. Hopefully, I'm not misogynistic to say 'I don't think cis women are as good as men BECAUSE AND ONLY BECAUSE of sexism.' (Note: It's not about being right. Absence of evidence is not evidene of absence.) I think it's a little like 'Can people with mental illnesses use the restrooms meant for people with physical disabilities?' or ... Part2.2 Ah I got it's like 'Is chess960 chess?', the precise version of which is 'When does chess960 count as chess?' I believe Wesley's victory over Magnus in the 2019 WFRCC is diminished under either of the considerations that chess 960 & chess are completely the same or that they're completely different. A - if they're completely the same, then it doesn't matter because Magnus won a bunch more than that in regular chess. B - if they're completely different, then it doesn't matter just as if Wesley beat Magnus in xiangqi or tennis. There should be an optimal point eg: 'Chess960 is like chess without openings and therefore, Wesley is better than Magnus in a combination of middlegames & endgames (most likely middlegames). It doesn't mean Wesley became the new 'world champion' after Magnus or that Wesley gets a wild card in the candidates ( hmph ... But why not? Fabi & Hikaru got wild cards in the 2019 WFRCC quarter-finals... ) because chess is indeed about all 3 phases of the game, even if 1 of the phases is already dead.' Similarly, I don't think trans women should be trivially and automatically treated as women in every single way, category, possibility, etc. Part2.3 I think the people who say - (caseA) 'trans women should be allowed because there's no point of women's chess in the 1st place' are more sexist / misogynistic than those who say - (caseB) 'trans women shouldn't be allowed because of they, when they were men, didn't experience the sexism that cis women endured.' See. That's not necessarily transphobia or misogyny. That's possibly concern for (cis)women's rights. This isn't about putting trans women down. This is about looking out for cis women. Part2.4 People who agree with Yosha's conclusion, they could still be sexist/misogynistic/transphobic. Like 'ok I'll vote trans women can join.' But this might be a short-term victory because in the long run in that they might not accept the reason women's chess exists in the 1st place: Like 'trans women can join BECAUSE there isn't a need for women's chess.' Women's chess might still exist de jure, but de facto women's chess may not be respected as much if this kind of thinking persists. Part2.5 I guess the correct answer is / should be that trans women did experience sexism while they were men and I guess it's on the same level as the sexism that cis women faced and therefore they should be allowed to play in women's chess. Hence, everyone wins: Trans women can join and in particular join FOR THE RIGHT REASONS and then women's chess will still be respected. • "Not allowing trans people to compete in sports" this is how disingenuous their argument is. Being made to compete in the category of your biological sex is not, not allowing them to compete, just like not allowing me a grown man to compete in 12 year old football games isn't preventing me from playing football.

    @lukemurray4950@lukemurray49503 ай бұрын
    • I dont think, its disingeniuos, because with Piers argumentation there are 2 possibilities: 1. Biological women who become men will beat women they compete with, because of their testosterone treatment and everything stays unequal and unfair. 2. You have to exclude those biological women because of their testosterone treatment, thus exluding all transgender men. The only other way out is to allow them all to compete with men, no matter whether they are men who became women or women who became men but that is not, what Piers suggested.

      @xxMilakasiaxx@xxMilakasiaxx3 ай бұрын
    • A biological male competing in women's sports is a cheat, plain and simple. Mr. Thomas towers over his female "teammates." He may not want to admit it but as a male competing with other men, he was a perpetual also ran, over 200 away from the contenders. Against females he was a "champion." Not a real champion like Riley Gaines but a male willing to go beyond the rules and any sense of fair play to satisfy his ego with a meaningless trophy.

    • @@xxMilakasiaxx in chess - here's my perspective as a chess960 fan and as a regular-chess hater: Question: If women's chess is to compensate for discrimination against women, then what discrimination did trans women experience when they were men that merits inclusion into women's tournaments & titles? CaseA : If you're saying women ARE just as good as men UNADJUSTED for sexism, then there's no need for a women's section in the 1st place. Part2.6 But then now comes the matter for women's physical sports... idk. I read recently about a trans woman competing in boxing on 2024Jan02 / 2024Jan023 'USA Boxing slammed for new transgender policy that allows biological men to compete against women' Part2.7 - Remark: I don't have definitive thoughts about all this, but I think it's fair to say that this shouldn't be like an easy or a trivial answer, particularly that if I disagree then I needn't be transphobic or misogynistic AND that if I agree then I COULD STILL be transphobic or misogynistic.

You have to qualify, whether by age/sex/weight/time/etc. You have to follow the rules. You cannot use certain substances while competing, including some prescription medications for valid medical conditions. The rules exist to keep competitions as fair as possible. You don't bend the rules for certain people if it makes it unfair for everyone else.

Should they ban short kids from playing? Lia Thomas did nothing wrong, she followed the rules .they changed the rules. She no longer competes. Simple.
