  • I had a Filipino friend like this growing up. He practiced at least 4 hours a day and performed in concert halls while attending school. As we got older, our group of friends wanted to do more outdoor activities like sports and riding our bikes around the neighborhood. His parents never let him join us because they didn't want him to injure his hands. Not even non-contact sports like flag football. He eventually became just another face in the hallway that you nod to as you pass by. I lost touch entirely after high school. He got good grades too, so I'm sure he's successful, but I wouldn't trade my childhood for his. I hope this little prodigy is able to have a normal childhood with lots of friends.

    • I doubt a three year old could get to this point without hours of weekly, if not daily, practicing. The teacher really shouldn't have accepted a pupil so young, as if he were three or four years older he'd likely progress to the same point much faster without wasting a developmentally important time.

He could sit with pleasure and attention through a 3 h long classical concert, and by 3.5months he was playing violin at 45 min long lessons. OK, I agree he was not average, but we met lots of kids like him. Kids like that exist, there are hundreds of them, if not thousands, in the world, they usually become successful musicians if they work hard and have proper parents and teachers. The family will be given better housing, better food etc. If something happens to him and he can't play anymore the family will be just like all the other unfortunate families in Communist China. If someone can add to the richness of the country they will be treated better. But if not then there's no use for them.

    • @@letsgobrandon4504 Absolute nonsense. First of all, the parents taught the boy good speech and good behaviour, this already means they are well educated and professional themselves. Secondly, they found for the son one of the best teachers, do you know what the hourly rates are for those? Then, if the boy starts touring, his mother has to drop her job to be with him, and at best they will get a sponsor to cover the fees, room hire with good grand pianos, travel expenses, etc. This boy is talented and clever, so, if he cannot play any more, he will be able to go into theory of music, change instrument, etc, at the end of the day he, with his hardworking attitude and high intelligence, will get brilliant education in another field. It is so funny how jalousy makes people make things up and create negative fantasies just to try to never notice where they and their kids stand compared to those gifted young people...

I am in my mid 60’s and I was like him in 1962 paraded as a so call prodigy at the old city hall (remember that ?). Fortunately my parents took charge and I have a balanced life with a successful career, loving family and a few Boesendorfer imperials. Well done. Proud of Hong Kong music developing like this. • @@ChiefHerzensCoach I don't want to be rude, for someone that young he plays extraordinarily well, but there was nothing especially musical about his performance. He played a simple repeating pattern, with no variation in tempo, and very slight variation in dynamics. The piece sounds like it is being rehearsed with a metronome, it doesn't have any fluidity. That said, I could never do something like this when I was 3. Most people couldn't. I'm not hating on the kid, he's clearly very talented. But he is also clearly nowhere near the level where most pianists play with an orchestra, and that's normal. It takes more than talent to play with an orchestra, which, no matter how gifted he is, there is simply not enough time to learn when he is only 3. This is a performance that sounds about what I would expect from a 1-2 year piano student, which is remarkable for someone aged only 3. But that's it. We don't need to exaggerate this.

    • @@gailhowes9398 Interesting, your playlist of favourite singers includes trash pop and x factor, this means that your parents did not give you a loving childhood but were bringing you in a garbage bin cognitively. Look at the faults of your thinking: - you assume the boy has a career. He does not, he is learning, and this is a school performance, a student orchestra. Don't your kids play nativity at Christmas publicly at school? Lots of parents come to watch school oerformances, is it a career? - stage training is part of music training. A 4 y old figure skating child will take part of sport competition. This is part of the learning. What's a problem? Do you toilet train your kids, teach them to read? Or they are like proper white tr... waste their childhoods in gadgets and horrible pop music? - why learning piano is thought by you to be the opposite to a loving childhood? You cannot imagine loving to play piano? You cannot imagine a kid loving to press keys to get soinds out of a piano, but can omagine a toddler pressing buttons of a music V tech toy? Where is logic? - It is OK to have no talent. But to judge other people's talented passionate kids by the limited desires of chavvy families ...

  • My support to Barron's mum! One of the main challenges in bringing up a gifted child is dealing with poisonous comments of talentless and cognitively underprivileged people who automatically assume that whatever your child does it is not him who wants to do it, and whatever your child achieved is because he was deprived of something. Their way of thinking ignores or outright denies the issue of talent and natural ability. Denying talent is necessary for those eternally deprived and eternally jealous, for them to sooth themselves in their mediocre existence as the model of happiness.
