for anyone who doesn't want to replace the pads, if you have a hairdryer or heat gun you can heat up the pads and take them off gently, makes it easy to reheat and stick on when you are done with your repair.
Hairdryer works perfectly! just be sure to dont touch with your greasy fingers the sticky part and take it off carefully without stretching the pads. Finally i was able to clean the mouse wheel rotation button up cause it was stuck :D
Thanks man
too late i trowed them, in to a garbage can by now ... so dumpster dive time to me ... thank for your comment it's was necessary and helpful , if i can get the part's again i will try to stick them to the mouse using your method !
Are they necessary to keep or is it if you just don't want to loose them and throw them away?
I spilled booze all over it now jts sticky ffs thanks though
I hate it that to take this mouse appart you have to remove the pads... cant even do a propper cleaning without being forced to buy new ones.
There are double sided adhesive tapes that are thin as paper so it won't mess up the sensor.
Seriously, I just removed them and the mouse is working fine without it. You won't feel the difference...Especially if you have a mouse pad.
I just tiny drops of super glue to hold them in place, I've taken the thing apart three times over the past several years and reused the pads each time. There's usually enough residual adhesive left that they flatten after being used for a bit.
Thanks for the instructions! Had to clean my G502 (~10 years old, bought it when it first came to market), and I could not believe the amount of dust build-up, wow! Scroll wheel works as expected again! :D
went from having a sensor which wasn’t working, to the entire mouse not working, and i have plans of becoming an electronic engineer, sigh.....
It's okay, dude, you're learning.
Don't down yourself from that, if you ever do it again it means you've learnt from this experience. Improvements come from those experiences and thus you learn and hone your craft.
Many years ago I was pulling things apart that had minor problems, I'd have no idea how to get the thing back together and/or working and give up hopeless with no idea what to do, throwing it away and forgetting about it. Now I have finally taught myself to solder and actually fixed my xbox controller, and headphones. My work was shoddy but it does the job. Since then I still break things all the time just trying to get it off the board. I suck so bad at fixing things, and it's the most stressful task I have undertaken, but nevertheless I've already saved myself money. Have faith in yourself and take a lesson from every mistake.
You're on the right track. You didn't break it. You've just discovered a design flaw. xD
Successful people are who learn from their mistakes. People that do it from the first time are just lucky.
Thanks a ton atomton. I managed to fix my rapid double click issue using these disassembly instructions. After I got the body disassembled, I googled around for "omron mouse switch repair" (Onron was printed on my g502 hero switches) and found a video about taking the individual switches apart. Bit of sticky tape on the switch top, lifted the lid, and unbent a slight amount of copper. Did a small amount of dabbing the copper with some tweezers and a cotton wad soaked in Isopropyl. Reassembled and got a *near* perfect score up to 280 or so clicks before a "fast double click event" in an online double click tester. Good enough for me, may end up doing it again if I feel like it. I am lucky to own a microscope for the switch adjustment. I'd recommend others with the same determination either use a microscope or a good magnifying glass and plenty of light and a little less coffee than I had that morning. It looks like it would be VERY easy to unbend the copper too much.
You can carefully use a drill on the tapes to make holes that allow you to access the screws. Any rough tags on the edges of the holes can be trimmed with an exacto knife. The pads will slide the mouse just as easily with a few access holes cut through them.
A firm rub on the feet and they will sink in, making it easy to see where the screw holes are. I'm gonna try drilling next time.
Great idea. It works. This video helped me to identify position of screws and I just used very thin metal "niddle" to make initial wholes and then Philips 0 to make them bigger. Thank you for the idea.
The simplest way to reuse pads is to let some isopropyl alcohol soak the area where they sit before removing them. They come off easily this way and the sticky side stays like that way after drying up.
Replaced switches on mine thanks to this guide. Cheers!
Thanks! I had issues with my wheel button clicks not registering consistently, until it eventually stopped working entirely. Disassembling the mouse and cleaning it seems to have fixed the issue.
can you care to tell me where you cleaned my middle mouse button stopped working to but where do we have to clean i have opened my mouse and cant finsd where to clean
Same.
@@EchoDroll it's the gold circle at the top of the main board
@@jont1226 yeah the reason why button doesn't work sometimes is because it's dented in. I would get a replacement but alot of effort thanks anyway
i lost the spring for m3 switch, any idea whats it called? i want to try and find them online
This video saved me from buying another new 502 hero. I had switches to replace the bad ones, but didn't know about the pin. an hour of staring at it, then your video showed me the way. I'm using my 502 hero right now.
can you say which switches you took? or do you know the naming of the switches?
@@Monolize I guess those are D2F-01 Omron switches
was really helpful thanks a bunch :3
Got my self some new pads and figured I'd clean the mouse while at it. This video helped bunches. Thanks!
I followed this and was able to replace a chewed up cable in half an hour. Thanks!
Lint got into my mouse wheel and was messing up tracking while scrolling, thanks for the guide so I didn't destroy my mouse in the process of opening it to remove the debris. Other than the lint it seems the tight steal did its job keeping the insides clean.
Quick and helpful. Thank you.
Dude, i got same problem with handshake too :( It really prevents me from soldering. Sometimes i can't even aim in some games. Btw thank you for video)
you work out constantly dont you?
didnt even know the bottom came off thanks. still getting used to this one after using a g603 for 2 years
Quick and helpful. Thank you so much for this.
Thank you for this!
Some of the buttons were getting real sticky. It's nice to now how to take it apart and wipe down the moving parts.
was having problem removing mouse wheel area, thanks for the help
Thank you. Because of this, I managed to pinpoint the reason my mouse was double-clicking. It was because of the case, not the switch. 😌
How was the case causing it to double click? Im experiencing the double click issue as well...on my g502 hero
@@Soulossus My mouse's left click would quickly bounce up and down when I clicked on it too fast. Like how a hard ruler would react if I whipped it back and let go. sux too cuz I could physically hear it bouncing on the button compared to if I pressed it lightly.
@@Soulossus google around for "omron" switch repair, theres a small copper bit you have to unbend a bit. it's SUPER tricky and you deffo need tweezers and magnification if you're like me.
Thanks for the instruction. When you remove teflon pads (3 black plastic pieces on the bottom of the mouse) try to push deeper your screwdriver or tool (blue tool on the video). The teflon pads have at least 2 layers.
Thanks for the vid! Helped a lot!
I was thinking of putting this metal Scroll wheel in a Mat Catz Rat 8. what do you think @Atomton
What’s that tool you used and any idea where I can get a similar one? Or what else I can use to safely open up the mouse?
after cleaning my G502 Hero it started to push the cursor to the left and giving crazy spins with the camera in a game. I thought I would have to open it because Im sure some water with detergent got into it. I was so mad! the first time I got it cleaned I was tremendously carefull, and this time I was not. Now it is working fine and the only issue I have is when pressing the sensibility buttoms the bottom menu for language, internet, audio, date, it pops in the same place giving me a double vision of these itens... dont know why but im glad I didnt screwed up with my piece. Thanks for the video!
Awsome vid, thanks to you i fixed my device!
thank you for your video, I was just puzzling where should i put those two springs back
Thank you SO MUCH for this video, it really helped me figure out how to disassemble this thing
thanks for this guide! this help me save my mouse from a beer spill accident ;)
same here !
My cat puked on my keyboard.
Hi a question, the paracord cable you showed has only 4 cables, in g502 the cables that pass are 5 (green, white, orange, and 2 blacks) how is it possible that you work perfectly?
Good day. Can I somehow restore Left Click on my own if it makes an arbitrary double click and resets itself when dragging something with a clamp?
mate it would really help if you mentioned the screwdrivers you used pain to find?
I think a lot of G502 failures are a result of dirt/dust infill and not bad switches. The G502 has massive gaps compared to the G500 between the buttons and the housing. Just cleaning my G502 (literally pounded the grime out of the clickers) solved my clicking issues.
do i need to pull it all apart like that, if all i want to do is clean my aim button flickin on an off? its ridiculous
no more coffee for u sir !
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
I was thinking of your joke until I got it now. HAHAHAHAHA
not everyone has steady hands, even without drinking coffee, just so you know
Thank you i had my Proteus Spectrum once Opened, and couldnt figure out where the 2 springs come from. I had never thaught about the Middle Click from the Scrollwheel
I stepped on my 502s USB connector and snapped it to 90 degree angle. I spliced on another USB cable and it was working great for 7 weeks or so. More recently my cat tried to kill me and I tripped on the cord which caused it to jerk out from the computer. Now when I plug it in i can see a very faint red light inside and the RGB doesn't come on. Windows says it doesn't recognize the device and it doesn't function at all. What should I do? I'm pretty sure I voided the warranty when I cut the cord to splice it.
Seems like my guy trying to do a speedrun
Very helpful. Thx for it. ^^
Thanks man! Could finally fix my left click.
lol my left-click broke too, how did u fix it?
@@Lightning-Shock man how did your left click I too have a problem !!
@@nareshmalla337 I eventually desoldered the switch and pried it open. Then I bent the horizontal metal part in a way that makes sense when you look at its placement. Using a multimeter and googling the datasheet I made sure it works the right way. For the sake of wear leveling I swapped it with an identical one from a button that I use the least.
@@Lightning-Shock oh okay thank you a lot .
@@Lightning-Shock Any reason why you didn't replace it with a new one, since you had it desoldered anyway?
thanks atomtom !
hello my g8 is like about to fall off the top button right next to primary click I mean its clicking and working but it started to wiggle all around is there a way to glue that or something
What do you need for those screws?
Which component affects the mechanical "clickiness" of the M3 (middle mouse) button? Is it just the tension of the two small springs or is there a switch somewhere? I ask because I recently picked on a g903 on sale for cheap, and it's largely a good experience, but the M3 feels completely flat and dull. Responsiveness is difficult to judge with no tactile feedback, so it becomes a pain to use to the point I just bound M3 to the side buttons. The newer Logitech mice also seem to have a common problem with m1 and m2 switches being cheap trash, but I'll cross that bridge when it becomes a problem-- those are easy enough as long as I don't hamfist some soldering and completely brick the thing.
IIRC the springs reset the M3 position to normal and the actual switch is visible from 3:25 in the video. But then, if the springs are not properly aligned, the click will be dull as well.
@@atomton5581 hey atomton, really helpful video! i lost the spring for m3 switch, any idea whats it called? i want to try and find them online
Holy hell, that took too much effort to clean out the wheel carrier. Thing has stray gunk and hair built up in it and made it impossible to scroll. Thanks for this vid!
why do you live like this
I need a tutorial on how to fix the bottom light beacuse it does not work and i cant move my curser pls help
Thanks for making this video, only a few minor things to make the G502 a lifetime mouse, like sanding down those sharp edges...
Thank you!
does the g502 stock wire fit in a g203 mouse
hot stuff.
hi, got a problem with left click after opening it, you have any idea? is very sensitive...thx
Thx, you just saved me 50 bucks

Thank bros, now i was able to replace my left micro switch by soldering a new one. As been a week i got that insane problem with my left click and drag issue.
My right mouse button does not stay down when I hold it. Where did you get the micro-switch? Were you really able to fix the mouse?
really thanks
Thank you so much
can someone help me, bough g502 hero , every click/scroll/rgb/ working but cursor does not move. i tried other g502 it works. how can i fix it? ( tried to open thi mouse and clean sensor area but not fixed)
im not going to remove the pads to open it up. my mouseclick is sometimes non responsive or sometimes even a double click when i click once. what a stupid plce to hide some screws
I have an issue that scrolling my mouse wheel is not getting recognized anymore. Anyone has a hint to help me out if I might be able to fix it?
Thanks a lot
Wish I knew not to try this, turns out the g502 I have doesent have screws in the list places meaning I just tore apart my mouse trying to fix it only for it to not be right
Thank you! Really wanted to mod my mouse
Haha, have the same idea dude xD
I do not recommend trying this. You can out pads back, but after opening the screws, it is really hard to open your mouse. I managed to break mine at some extent. It is still working, but I had to glue small part back on. You need to use force which may be too much for the mouse.
It definitely requires a bit of force to pry it open. But you know, since the warranty expired anyway I thought I'd give it a shot.
great video. left mouse button was really finicky but this worked great. engineering is such a cool think when you get to look at the inside of something like a gaming mouse (any electronics really).
I got a piece of hair or some type of fiber wrapped around my scroll wheel so it isn't scrolling as freely and tweezers aren't doing the job so I have to completely disassemble the thing to get access to the scroll wheel?! I was thinking that there would be a release or something to allow you to pull it out the top for quick cleanings. I'm afraid that I'm going to lose or break something. I'm not sure if this is just logitech but between the difficult cleaning, the occasional double-clicks and the problems that I have with Ghub and their customer service, I'm not sure why I thought that Logitech was the top of the line, or maybe it still is and the other companies are even worse..? Not sure what better options are out there are but i would assume that somebody else is doing it better. I'm fairly new to PC's, but you would think that a mouse that is specifically made for gaming would not have any issue, clicking, scrolling, or cleaning, as I assume those are the core functions that a gamer who drops the amount of money on something like this would need/expect, but what do i know...
I think the wheel is attached to the holder with a #00 Phillips screw, so I guess there's no way to clean it without disassembling the mouse. Thing with "gaming" equipment IMHO is that it's often just a label to sell things and not necessarily an indicator for quality or repairability.
YOUR SHAKING SO HARD!! LOL ITS LIKE YOU TOUCHED A GHOST
NICE !!
So the middle mouse button scrolls fine, and the button that switches from a smooth to a non-smooth scroll also works fine. The main click for the middle mouse doesn't work, I only have to touch the middle mouse button for it to open tabs and the like. Just scrolling though the comment did it too, and I can't hear the click. The button works, but it's so damn sensitive as if the wheel was crammed against the button inside. Looking at the components I'm wondering, is that orange button fragile? I've owned the mouse for maybe two years now, and while I'm generally careful with computer and mouse (Obviously being rough with it guarantees it won't last long) I don't doubt wear and tear is the cause.
lost the springs and broke the adhesive pads so I'm using my keyboard to navigate until the replacement comes. good learning opportunity I guess lol
hello just bought a g502 and the wire is bend and the braided material is loose in the spot where the velcro was fixed . Try to reach my retailer and they tell me to return it and wait for refund instead of just fixing the problem and send me a new one . I researched this wire problem and can;t seem to find spare parts cable shops in my country can you tell me exactly what kind of connector does this cable has and a general advice of what to do in this situation? ty in advance
alexandru gabriel you should be able to find a replacement cable online, just search for *G502 replacement cable*. I recently got one delivered from EBay and it seems to be working a treat so far :) Mines a g502 proteus spectrum so it has a 5 pin connector, I also ordered one which had the stress relief already built in. Hope this helps ^^

If you take off the hyperglides, can you put them back on without having to buy new ones?
Little late but yes, you can put them back on if you are careful while taking them off. The adhesive is really sticky and seemed like it seated just fine after I put mine back together.
so i think i have to clean my mouse but i dont wanna ruin the gliders or the skates does anybody know where i can get good ones from?
My mousewheel were completely dead, that's why I came here, but in a process of watching this video I accidently drop my mouse and now its working, thanks I guess! :D
Thanks, was wondering where the buttons were! For some reason my mouse kept double let clicking, but I guess it just needed to be re-arranged because now it works fine. Also those pads are stupid, they should have used the same design for the metal plate holder so we can pop them back in place. :/
dude i just had this double clicking issue did you fix yours?
thanks sir
Where you got that cool blue flexible cable?
Updated the link in the description to what I think is the right one
My hyper scroll is way too loose (physically) the wheel moves when just moving the mouse, any ideas on how I can stiffen it up?
maybe just use the normal scroll option
Ho aperto questo video per cercare il problema del mio mouse ho finito prima prendendolo e sbattendolo il più forte possibile contro il muro grazie per il video
One of your buttons is stuck? Try shaking the mouse, blow air inside the button, move buttons left and right, up and down, insert a piece of paper to remove any adhesive material stuck inside,... When none of that fix it, open the mouse.
Which switches
THX!
No longer a fan of the Logitech stuff...I got a G502 mouse and keyboard (can't even remember the model) for Christmas. Both stopped working properly within a few weeks. The left and right click on the mouse don't always register when you click near the middle/top of the two buttons (where your fingers would normally rest). So holding down a mouse button doesn't act as if you're holding it down; it is like you are randomly releasing and re-clicking. Supremely annoying. When I click really far towards the back of the buttons, it seems to work fine. Either way, I now feel as if their products are poorly built because I had two separate defective items from them that stopped working after such a short time.
Yeah I've had the same problems with my G502, hence I've stopped using it. Definitely won't buy another Logitech mouse.
any extra weights inside that can be remove to reduce weight?
I didn't disassemble the upper case, but for the lower case there's pretty much nothing except PCBs and a magnet for the bottom flap.
You can drill holes in the outer casing, remove the whole rubber weight (light blue) container area, use it without the bottom weight door, remove the magnet for the weight door and replace the scroll wheel with one from the g900 (they are compatible).
i almost opened my mouse because the memory cicle wasnt working and i though the button got stuck because it wasnt responding, turns out it was an update that removed the from memory to the software and disabled it.......my heart......so weak.
Hey man! Just wanted to ask a few questions, did you use heat to mold the mouse cable, and did you need to buy new mouse feet? If so which ones did you buy? P.S Great video, very helpful. Liked and subbed :D
You need to buy new ones, for me it was the easiest to get them from AliExpress, cheap too
my logitech g502 doesnt have screws behind the pat im just seeing the screw hole
I love you.
bruh, you know how the mouse wheel eventually get all loose and rolls too easily, just add more spring tension, probably an intentional design flaw!!!!!!!!!! same deal with the freewheel button
Disassembled, replaced the faulty switch and now... I need G502 assembly video )
Just reverse the video lol
What are those tools you're using? I want to buy some!
Just a toolkit I bought from iFixit a few years ago
I think I won't be able to assemble it back together without bricking it :(
my middle click not working. i bought new wheel system and replaced but still not working how can i fix
replace the klick-switch. The wheel might not be the faulty part. google Panasonic EVQ-P0E07K for the part
So late but I think ur problem comes fron this component: TL3315NF160Q
right mouse button issues brought me here. about to perform some mouse surgery.
Do the rubber pads stick back on after?
Wouldn't bet on it, I tend to replace them. They can become deformed and might not stick back on if you're unlucky.
how's the tracking without them? I won't be able to replace them for a while
IIRC it should work as you can tune the sensor, but no guarantee. Pads I currently use are almost level with their slots and tracking is no problem. Gliding without the pads could be more of an issue.
what do you replace them with?
You can buy them from Logitech (P/N 993-000869) or get aftermarket ones.
