DIGGING our way IN! (Alaskan, OFF-GRID Cabin)

2022 ж. 21 Сәу.

Good morning dear friends! By the time you read this Tanya and I will be on our way up to the cabin to spend a couple of days. This week we will be cleaning out the messy old generator building and starting to transform it into an inviting woodshop. We are excited about this space and can't wait to get to work. The roof is our first and biggest concern. It is literally collapsing under the heavy snow load. We will start by shoring it up and then begin to make permanent repairs. We are so glad you are coming along for this adventure.
The daily highs are up above freezing almost every day now and the snow should start receding soon. Spring is on it's way to the mountains and we are so looking forward to it. We can't wait to show you this beautiful country!
We love you all so much. Thank you for your friendship.

  • Looking at that ridge beam sticking out it strikes me that it would be a great place to hang the Bed and Breakfast sign (with a bit of reinforcement). It is great to have your wife there with you and the audio going along with her arrival. She has the most beautiful smile and seems overflowing with energy! I enjoy watching you do the things I have done in past years (without all the equipment) as I am doing less and less in my seventies. Seems I spend as much time in my chair as I do in the shop! Keep up the work and the humor. It is good to see you laugh together with Stella grinning!

  • Hello again. My favorite couple is still working very hard buried into snow. It's fantastic to see how you work with that good humor and affection. A big hug from Spain and a couple for Alaska. What a trip from Alaska to Texas!! Wonderful.

  • Hi there from Illinois! So much snow! Hey, I remember the igloo episodes, maybe there could be the beginning of a snow sky scraper up there! Nice workshop!!!! I foresee lots of fun projects coming to life in there! Tanya, love you new hairdo! Now you need a new tool belt to go along with that! Then maybe you won't hear the pitter patter of nails raining down. 😉 . Stella.....how can you sleep with all of that banging???? What did you say Stella? " it's rough rough!" Yeah, I bet. I admire your work, it's so clear that everything that you do is done exceptionally well and thorough. I'm learning so much! Thanks for sharing your talents! Hope that you had a fun and WARM toe tappn' visit in Dallas!

    • Donna, you perfectly described our time in Dallas! Thank you for the lovely compliment ! The struggle with short hair is that already I feel like I need a trim 😂. I agree that a nail belt/ belts would be JUST the thing and said as much to Gale! I’m like, “aren’t you a carpenter? And don’t they typically use nail belts?!” He is NOT typical. 😂 Stella can sleep through about anything. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- she is a lady of leisure! Her main job is to look pretty and that’s what she does 90% of the time, the other 10% she is keeping us thoroughly entertained 😊. It is good to chat with you friend. Thanks so much for being here and for taking time to connect. We appreciate you. ~Tanya

I love what you are willing to do to keep the camp grounds alive, it takes time but with the intelligence and knowledge that you have is amazing. Your craftsmanship is amazing also. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us. See you on the next video ✌️

  • Stella understands job site etiquette the best! Haha To this Illinoisan it is quite alien to need a snow plow in late April, let alone be amazed to find that the 6’ drifts will budge now! Glad you are in good health and enjoying your projects and each other 😜😉😄

  • Holy cow ! Thanks so much Gale ! And it’s like Genesee beer with an o on the end basically but definitely close enough. And yea I’ve been on board since pretty close to beginning I think. My wife Kim and I came to our camp for the night and I said holy crap he’s talking about me ! I explained and she knew who I was talking about because show her clips while I watch lol. Anyway I saw that shop and thought I can’t wait to see the stuff you could do in there once it’s been cleaned up and made safe again ! So glad you got to visit with one of your sons and I’m sure Tonya was happy with some warmth. Lol. Thanks so much for sharing your adventures with us ! Take care G&T ! ✌️

    • Good evening Tony. You are so welcome for the shoutout. We appreciate your friendship. We spent most of the day today working on that old shop. It is really going to be nice to have a place to get inside and work on our many projects. We are going to have to address that old roof though. This winter pretty much did it in. Give our love to Kim. Talk with you soon. Good night from Alaska

  • I dearly love watching your channel since I came across it - I have a dream of visiting Alaska one day. My Uncle James lived in Alaska since he left Ireland as a young man and joined the army & Fought in Vietnam- he passed last year regretfully aged 90 yrs. You sure need good insulation there as I do now living in Australia for heat and cold down south. You are a great team and work well together - have fun creating your home away from home.

    • @@ThisIsMyAlaska Thank you for your gracious offer. My wife and I will be flying into anchorage and then on the fairbanks (August 3rd) staying in danila for two days then back to Whittier to board a curse headed back to BC 11 days total. Not sure where you are located but a cup of coffee with such great folks would be great if it works out. The good folks at K-Love/Air1 encourage "There are good people in the world if you cannot find one, be one" You are one of those. God Bless

    • Marvin, I love that! “If you can’t find one, be one!” Perfect! This property is about 3 hours out of Fairbanks but our “in town” house is in North Pole just outside of Fairbanks and so depending on what your Fairbanks day looks like…. You will see a great variety of Alaska’s landscapes on your trip! I hope you two have a wonderful time!!! ❤️

I would like to say thank you to both of you because it was by looking at you that I opened my eyes to the beauty of the world and of humanity. It is lost nowadays. Thank you for your smiles and your complicity. Also, I am grateful to you because it was by looking at you that I realized that I had to change my professional path and get into carpentry .... • Haha! So true! It’s a completely different experience when you live prepared for lots of snow! The only time the kids here miss school is if it turns to freezing rain which seems to happen about once per winter. Other than that, we power through 😂. A foot of snow overnight? No problem! -35 degrees below zero? No problem! We are t quite as prepared for heatwaves but they’re pretty rare lol. Thanks for watching, Janet and for taking time to comment. Take care. 😊

I’ve always enjoyed taking my visions and putting them into reality too (maybe not as major as you are doing). I used to live in the southern part of Tasmania, Australia and I created my own piece of heaven surrounded by sea and rolling mountains. I look forward each week to seeing what you both are achieving, you make me laugh with your bantering between the two of you. ❤️
