I finished with the first layer of planks and water barrier on the bathroom / sauna roof. For those that haven't seen the previous episodes, I have decided to expand the cabin to add the bathroom and sauna.

    • Glad that you mentioned Shawn James at My Self Reliance. Also do you follow "Outlander"? A father/son team that have been building an epic log home. The father recently passed but the son is carrying on the build. These 3 men have much in common. Integrity, hard workers, noble men with obvious love of family.

  • I have watched you for a very long time. I was here watching you pulled logs out of the forest and skin them. I still remember the big pile of logs you neatly rolled together and then built a special device to place all the logs in perfect order to build the outer walls. Kind of like you have used today. You are a young healthy man But the years of horrific ware on your body are ever so slightly creeping in. I am 70. I am now paying the price for what I did to my body when I was young. I didn't notice and can't say I thought much about it. Nows the time to listen to your body. Get more help. You are amazing and one of the smartest young men I have ever watched on utube. No one compares to your brilliance. Please be careful and get as much help as you can as often as you can. We love you out here.................. we love your family... I look forward to every video..... take care.

    • I was watching today - and I figured he's heading for a big hurt if he keeps this up. I can't tell whether he's tired or not coordinated between his thinking and doing. I lost track of how many times he was working against himself, on the wrong side of a lift for example. Or his foot or feet got in the way. When he started that flooring I'm wondering why oh why he didn't just rough cut every board on the ground then move them up, secure them then trim them off. IMO too, those boards being used for flooring looked a bit thin. I built houses for a couple of years in my younger days (now going on 67) and can say I totally agree with justme justme. You got a wife and child - take some safety precautions at the very least, like a tie-off to keep you from falling. One misstep, bam to the floor, you could be dead or crippled the rest of your life. We want to see many more videos from you sir, do take care, do things safely.

    • Yes I know Myselfreliance well & have been watching him too since he started the first cabin at his original spot. I think they are both incredible builders. In my comment, what tools they chose to use or don’t is not what I was talking about. I was admiring how Nik uses the wood to create beauty. To be fair to Nik, Shawn James also uses chainsaws and a sawmill to prepare his timber planks. Art is in the eye of the beholder, and in my opinion both Nik & Shawn are true artists.

  • I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos. I think your home is coming along beautifully and really like the natural wood, both interior and exterior. You have a wonderful attitude in many respects. You are not in a hurry to complete your home and that reduces errors. You take time to show your enjoyment with your family, play time and allowing them (safely) to help with the building and getting involved. Having good friends to help you is fantastic and you give your help to your friends with their projects. You show the beauty of your home land in all seasons of the year and the simplicity of nature that surrounds your life.
