  • Honestly, it's small towns like this one what attracts me more about Japan. Sure, visiting Tokyo might be fun but this, this is exactly the place I dream of being.

    • @@agentepolaris4914 I think what this interaction points to is a lot of Japanese city's ability to maintain a "small town" feel in a city with nearly 175k people, which is awesome. My guess is that, as an American, our city's dense, car centric infrastructure makes the city itself feel unwelcoming. Certainly some Japanese city's are like this too, but to a lesser degree I think. Outside western city's, it's easier to exist as a pedestrian. You can walk places, there are numerous third places, infrastructure is well built keeps the individual experience in mind. Things like that can work to make a big city feel small, welcoming, and accessible.

  • Japan's architecture is so satisfying to watch, almost all buildings are distinct and I love their family cars parked outside and how each building is connected to the pavement and street flawlessly.

    • I completely agree! Japan's architecture is so unique and beautiful. It's always a pleasure to see how they incorporate their culture into their buildings.

    • I agree very much, but I think it's also the case in European countries (about the distinct buildings and pedestrianism).

    • @@kotnapromkeyeah but this is a small town so there's not much need to that. Also, "if it's not broken don't fix it", this seems to work for them. It's better they keep what makes their country charming and unique instead of copying the others

  • What attracts me about Japan is not the people in particular, but rather the architecture, the culture of being sacred with nature and a general sense of peace. I feel like all the rules in Japan come from an indirect or subconscious attempt to be more evolved spiritually which in modern times translates to being the perfect citizen.

  • I've been all over Japan, but visiting Kamakura and Yokosuka has been the highlight of my Japan travels. The contrast of a very traditional Japanese town with dozens of temples compared to a military port with American soldiers and businesses catering to them was mind-blowing. And they're just separated by a quick 30 minute train ride. Only in Japan!

    @TheHipClip@TheHipClip9 ай бұрын
  • I'm always amazed at how clean the roads are! Such a contrast with the roads in my town!

    @Metempsychosis000@Metempsychosis0009 ай бұрын
    • That’s in good part because 1/ Kamakura is a historical town, very touristy, so they tend to keep it clean 2/ Everyone cleans in front of their houses 3/ Neighborhood associations (not mandatory, but strongly encouraged if you live in a house) do frequent cleanings, often the elderly who also socialize this way 4/ Littering is really frown upon. Kids do beach cleaning sessions at school, etc.

      @remka2000@remka20009 ай бұрын
    • I couldn't help by notice, it's not just the roads. But even the building fronts, the windows, the lamp posts and sign posts... At 04:00 , the two vending machines on the right have ZERO rust and no signs of wear and tear... At 04:37, the tiled front has ZERO chips/cracks, but it's very rare where I am from to see tiled walls that are so pristine! This isn't just clean, this is FAIRYLAND levels of perfect!
