A Surreal Morning Walk in a Dreamlike Cotswold Village || ENGLAND

So, today we are out and about walking in the Cotswold village(s) of Eastleach, which is located in the county of Gloucestershire. Eastleach has a population of over 300.
Eastleach is a bit of an unusual one as essentially there are two villages (Eastleach Turville & Eastleach Martin) which are divided by the River Leach. Two stone bridges were built to provide access to each village. One bridge is a road bridge and the other a clapper bridge. The clapper bridge is called the Keble Bridge as it was named after a local curate of St. Michael & St. Martin in Eastleach Martin, who was also the founder of a Sunday School. The Church of St. Andrew sits just across the river in Eastleach Turville, bizarrely the two churches almost face each other. This might just be the first time we have visited two churches during a single walk.
Eastleach Turville is the bigger of the two villages which has a public house called the Victoria Inn. It was in 1935 that the two villages were amalgamated into one civil paraish. In Eastleach there are many listed buildings.
There are no hidden OAAW logos in this video, however see if you can spot two wild rabbits gleefully playing.
Thanks for walking with me.

    • @omegamale7880 Hi. Honestly, I can assure that no extra sounds have been added to this video, what you are hearing is 100% the original audio recorded at the time of the walk and at 6:00 am in the morning the wildlife sounds stand out more due to very little or no noise pollution. Also the audio is recorded with two binaural microphones as I walk, take a listen through headphones (if you have not already done so), it gives a highly focused almost 3d like sound. Thanks. OAAW

      @marsha1963@marsha19639 ай бұрын
    • You don’t belong there, you belong where you are. These places are the way they are because of the people who live there and have a connection to the place that they preserve the heritage and history. They’re apart of it. If outsiders start moving in it will no longer be what it was. It will become just like everywhere else and that’s already happened to many of these places. If you really find these places beautiful and want them to be authentically preserved then treat them like fine art at a museum and enjoy them from a distance or a visit. It’s not yours to own.

This is what it sounds like in the english countryside at all times of day with varying degrees of intensity especially early in the morning. • I grew up on the Isle Of Wight in the seventies, and there were small villages & hamlets that were very similar to this in many ways. The poorer natives still owned their stone cottages & were able to sustain themselves at that time. My neighbours had a 15th century stone cottage & were often unemployed. It was a beautiful place to grow up, but it would be impossible today. The natives are all gone and wealthy folk have taken over everything. That does not take the beauty away from this upload, but it is tough when you've watched similar places undergo such radical changes. Reminds me of James Herriot's Yorkshire.

    @steelyman08@steelyman089 ай бұрын
    • Tell me, please, what do the inhabitants of small villages do? I am delighted to watch various videos about villages in England - everything there is so clean, neat... I don't see if there are domestic animals in the villages (chickens, geese, cows, pigs, rabbits). If so, where do they live? I am watching a video from Ukraine.

      @user-sm8xb3gi1d@user-sm8xb3gi1d7 ай бұрын
    • @@user-sm8xb3gi1d That's a very good question really. It's all changed so radically even since the 1970s. I imagine that Ukranian villages are still more like UK villages were in the past. Your question about where everything's gone ( livestock, and other village necessities) is an answer in its way. That kind of true working village is mostly a thing of the past in the UK. The village I grew up in during the seventies is now a quiet, very tidy, sanctuary for wealthy commuters or retired people. The houses are far too expensive for anyone else now. The native people that used to live in them had to move into towns or cities. I'm not sure about the country as a whole, but I think these facts about my old village apply to most of the UK. Perhaps someone else knows of old-style villages in the UK that I'm unaware of?

The closely-sited early medieval churches of the parishes of Eastleach Turville and Eastleach Martin. The Victoria pub is a welcoming watering-hole. Peter Ustinov grew up in this village. • This might be a strange comparison but being a person who really loves Midsomer Murders series, i felt like i was in it! Houses, roads, nature - everything looked so british, cozy and, at the same time, a bit eerie. Honestly, i have so many questions about this (and similar to this) village- what it is like to live in such a unique place; what do people do for a living there;are there more drawbacks than benefits of owning houses made of stone, etc. Also, with the population ar.300 people, i guess everyone knows each other so well that that there is no place for privacy at all. Yes, i do realize my comment sounds cliche but still :)
