      @GuidoWarnecke@GuidoWarnecke2 жыл бұрын
    • The 27 was my first jet. No auto-throttles, a terrible auto-pilot (think "wing leveler with altitude hold" and not much more) no FMC, no LNAV, no VNVA, no glass, no groundspeed readout, no DME HOLD, etc. Just a yoke, throttles, and a very swept wing. Some of the most rewarding pure flying I've ever done. You couldn't;t just mash the throttles and fly it. You did more careful flying from V1 to 10,000 feet than a modern glass pilot does on a four-day trip. Since it didn't have gobs of thrust, pitch and trim control was paramount to flying that plane well.

  • Great video. I'm curious about the checklist calling for landing lights to be turned off soon after rotation. Would it not make more sense from a conspicuity point of view to have the landing lights remain on during the climb?

    @StephanEdelman@StephanEdelman2 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Stephan, that depends on the location of the landing lights. The King Air have them on the nose wheel, so with gear retraction they come off. Some jets change from landing lights to pulse lights. In general you are 100% correct to show lights and make you visible below 10,000ft. Happy Landings, Gudo

  • Is there an advantage to staying on IFR even though you're manually flying w/ the airport in sight?

    @stupid314@stupid3142 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Scott, the "visual approaches" have been introduced to facilitate more traffic during busy times. Aircraft do not have to fly the standard instrument approach routes. You still remain in the IFR system, but you have to maintain visual contact to the airport at all times. If for any reasons you have to do a missed approach, you are still in the IFR system and the controllers can take care of you. An alternative would be to "cancel IFR" but from there it is not easy for ATC to accept you back in the IFR system, Happy Landings, Gudio

  • great video! You had my blood boiling at the beginning though when you were entering the runway, rhyming off a checklist by memory and then said checklist complete. The CFI in me was going to feed into you as no checklist is complete without referencing the checklist. Then at 3:30, you redeemed yourself with ALYWAY USE A CHECKLIST. Hate it when people say "ive memorized it". NOT good enough, we all forget things! great video, sir!

    @DaveAngus4lyfe@DaveAngus4lyfe2 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Dave, The Camera angle of the Video does not show everything in the cockpit. I use checklists ALL THE TIME. In a single pilot environment, a challenge and response checklist does not make much sense. I do my flow checks and then back it up with a checklist. In the later stages of the flight, you see me various times having the checklist in hand during flight. Sometimes the list is near my left knee, outside the camera view. I don’t know which aircraft you fly. The Citation is a simple design aircraft. Nevertheless you need a checklist to back up your action. It’s easy to forget items that can kill you. Pure memory items are very sparse in the Citation, eg. rejected take off or emergency descent. There you have no time for a checklist. Happy Landings, Capt. Guido
