Why is Sambo better than BJJ in MMA but not in submission grappling? What's going on that messes things up? Is it solely striking? If so why?
Sambo has more diverse fighters like in many. For example, in sambo you can be an Expert in grappling standing up but bad on the ground or vice-versa like mma. Ones champion needs to find the sambo and judo experts for ground grappling in stead of stand up guys.
Jiu Jitsu guys need to get better at not accepting bottom position. But overall past that point I think Jiu-Jitsu is better as long you don’t accept bottom position in MMA.
Sambo is not better than BJJ for MMA. The same way BJJ is not better either. There are no pure samba or bjj practitioners in MMA. I call this best base for MMA nonsense "Roganisms" Rogan is responsible for a lot of this crap. First it was BJJ, then Wrestling, now it's Sambo. We missed the "Machida Era" just slightly. Werdum submitted Fedor does not mean BJJ is better than Sambo in MMA? No.
Couple of reasons. It’s more too based. Which automatically apply striking on the ground. Working from the bottom doesn’t. Also the rules. Decisions benefit the top guy because of the strikes and control. Sambo isn’t doing nothing that wrestling wasn’t doing long ago. In the end it’s not better than BJJ. When the right BJJ style comes along it beats them. Most guys leave BJJ for mma long before they can become top BJJ guys. Most of your athletes have mma in mind from the start because of the history of BJJ and mma. The key for BJJ guys in mma is the same for this match here. You have to be high paced and scramble. You can’t play it safe or play for decisions. Because BJJ isn’t designed for decisions in mma.
Because a pure Jiu Jitsu guy has much less skills in his arsenal than a Sambo guy That's why nearly every top tier Jiu Jitsu fighter in MMA also needs to learn some wrestling because otherwise his Jiu Jitsu won't help him much Good examples here are GSP, Khamzat Chimaev and Jon Jones They all have great Jiu Jitsu but without their great wrestling it wouldn't be as useful as it is for them And in a fight pure Sambo vs pure Jiu Jitsu, the sambo guy wins because of the big amount of techniques Sambo is basically MMA

@@Konton0178 BJJ came from Judo then the styles diverged. BJJ focused 98 % on mat work and submissions while Judo shifted to more throws / stand up. Judo also banned all leg locks. So BJJ guys are usually going to be better in the submission game.
