I'd take class of yours if you ever offer it in the states. I've mentioned this on another video, you really do need to get a list of your favorite tools you recommend. Even tweezers and prod sets and solders and fluxes. You can even set up affiliate links and make a page to link in all your videos. There's even virtual assistants that can do all the work for you if you just don't want to do the work, just provide your list. Best wishes.

I just wanted to hopefully stop it potentially happening to people in the future as I knew it would break the corner of the device off . If it saves one person's SOT 23 or similar component then it was worth the effort to show it .Thanks again , take care 👍

  • I have had to do this to kind of rework on some of our boards in the lab. we needed to change a net from -1v power domain to the -4v power domain. Obviously some IC's still needed -1v so to facilitate that we had to to lift a pin, and run a wire from the lifted pin to the -1v supply. I could have saved some time, and broken pins with this technique. I ended up using a 45 degree curved conical tip, and tweaked the pin with that instead of the scalpel. At a narrow pitch it was hard to only tweak the one pin you wanted. using a scalpel looks far more precise.

    • After the PCBA was done, the boss want to change the CPU supply from 5V to 3.3V. I have to lift every supply pin to feed with a separate power source. It end up became a power bus on top of the CPU. I call it the "ring of fire". It was 25 years ago, what a fun memory. (I hate BGA 😂, have to drill a hole from back of PCBA to do that).😢

  • Hey bud, lovely video as always. I have a little bit of a soldering challenge for you - it's something I'll have to do a bunch of times (100s) sometime in the future, so I'm gathering ideas on how to do this best. So the idea is to make a pcb that one can solder a 32 pin, 0.6mm pitch, stranded, IDC cable to. Solder, meaning no flipboard connectors or pin headers or nothing. Strip a few mm off the wire, and solder it to the board without shorts or missed pins. Seems difficult to me - the one tip I've seen was to use a "spade tip" T12 soldering iron to both remove the insulation as well as (another, clean tip) solder all the conductors at once. But I'm still worried about registration errors (conductors sliding around to the wrong place). Would love to see a video with your take on this. As said i have to do this 100s of times so it'll be difficult!

  • I use to just cut the leg of a pin to disconnect it from the circut board. If I wanted to reconnect it I would then solder the cut pin back together again. It takes some sharp soldering skills but it is a supper fast way to isolate a problem. I would cut pins until I found the problem with a data line or shorted power supply, replace the bad IC and then solder the cut pins back together on the good chips where I had cut pins. Sometime I would crack an IC when clipping a pin so care has to taken with this method too especially the pins on the end of an IC

    • Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated . I personally use a stereo long reach microscope from GT Vision . It's their own branded one and is great . It's a fifth of the price of a Meiji branded similar scope . These types of long reach scopes allow you to work on extra large boards . Any tiny work becomes a lot more manageable under these sorts of scopes . Some people who do larger work but still need magnification just use a desk mounted magnification glass . These normally come with built in lights and are available from lots of places including Amazon . I know there's also magnifying eye piece glasses but I've never used these .Hope that helps , thanks again 👍

You need to take them off the board , isolate the pad with Kapton tape then refit the component , or you can remove the pad or cut the trace coming away from the pad you need to isolate .
