    • I have a 7600k running at 5ghz in my media machine with just a hyper212 for cooling. If you find yourself a little cpu limited, grab a cooler and crank it up! That generation of Intel cpu are champs for overclocking.

    • @CanadianComputerCollector good idea. I might try and do that. I'm trying to squeak every last bit of life out of my system. If I'm not lucky enough to get my hands on a 5090 when they release, I might have to ride it out into 2025.

    • It's time to overclock! A 5ghz OC with a GTX 1080 was (just barely) enough for me to run bg3 at 4k on my tv. Averaged about 50fps too. I was very impressed.

  • I used a 750 Ti/i5-2500K for some time, so going from that to a 1080 Ti/i7-5960X is a ridiculous leap for me personally. There's definitely better, but with what I can afford and with what's been available on the used market, it's a substantial upgrade that I've come to really appreciate, especially during lockdown days. Maybe in another 6-7 years or so, stuff like a 7900 XTX paired with a 7800X3D can be had for pretty damn cheap, as is the case with the higher end parts of yesteryear. 👍

  • If 1080p gaming is your thing its great. I just got rid of my GTX 1080 to move up to 1440p. If I was sticking at 1080p Id have kept the 1080 going for even longer.

    @stephenhood2948@stephenhood294810 күн бұрын
    • It is bonkers for 1080p and okay at 1440p, but you're not wrong to upgrade when you move on from 1080p.

      @CanadianComputerCollector@CanadianComputerCollector10 күн бұрын
    • I strictly play in 1440p on my 1080Ti and its still pumping with some graphics setting changes depending on game. I feel like I could just get a 1080p monitor and keep this thing going for a few more years once the wear starts to really show. I might have to hold on until the 50-60 series.

  • Still running a $80 GTX1080 Gigabyte Gaming OC out in my garage PC paired with a 5600X/32gb 3200mhz Dual Rank/B550 Gigabyte DS3H/1tb SX8200 NVMe. It makes for a snappy shop PC and even can fire up a game on it for 60fps Ultrawide 1080p. Controller focused games usually. I have no plans to get rid of it as it's a smallish card that fits the case and was super cheap to buy. Just enough muscle for gaming and features like 4k decoding for streaming. Great card.

  • Not the greatest gpu ever, just a symptom on how Graphics have stagnated. The 10xx series doesn't do anything special or anything innovative, it just happened to sit at the bottom of the performance wall, that all three companies are struggling to climb right now.

    • Yes GPUs have stagnated, but the performance leap of the 1080 over even the titan X was astonishing, especially for the price. The 1080 raised the bar. I hope to see it happen again some day soon!

  • I just upgraded for a 1080 8GB to 4070 Super 12GB. For someone like me doing 1440P gaming it’s absolutely necessary. 1080 8GB cards are very inadequate for 2K gaming today. Most games use 8GB of VRAM minimum at 1440P and upwards of 13GB of VRAM on some games. 1080Tis may be more relevant with 11GB of VRAM but remember some games demand more than 11GB of VRAM at 1440P today. This isn’t as bad on a RTX 3070 or RTX 3080 because you have access to high quality DLSS… 1080Tis lack of DLSS makes them still, relatively obsolete. Game devs are starting to expect gamers to be using upscaling and are pushing graphical feature sets to exceed hardware performance. If you don’t have a card than can AI upscale you aren’t playing games at the limit today. Especially not with a 1080ti. If it shipped with 16GB of VRAM it may have ended up more viable but we’re officially past 11GB being enough. I brought up my purchase of 4070 Super because it cost me $599 and it’s 12GB of VRAM is already obsolete. Hogwarts Legacy and a few other games require me to drop my settings and run frame gen and DLSS even with RT off! So how is a 1080ti okay today? Maybe if you’re into 1080p gaming at lower settings… but what’s the point of that?! Bad take IMO.

    @TonyisToking@TonyisToking13 күн бұрын
    • DLSS isn't the only upscaler. FSR works on these cards which helps keep them relevant.

    • Note: this video isn’t about playing games “at the limit today”

    • Well ya, that's because 1080 is a 1080p card

      @ziudra91@ziudra9112 күн бұрын
  • Nothings beats the price for performance? An RTX 4060 8GB without DLSS will out perform a 1080Ti for ~$40 more for a new warrantied supported graphics card. With DLSS Quality it shreds the performance of a 1080ti and can ray trace light games. AMD 6650XTs are almost the same price as nice used 1080tis and out perform 1080tis without upscaling. Did you guys do ANY research. Or just said “this will be a cute video for broke boys”

    @TonyisToking@TonyisToking13 күн бұрын
    • Where are you finding a 4060 for only $40 more than a 1080ti?

      @scamperly@scamperly13 күн бұрын
    • lol where do I even start with you? The two cards you quoted both sell for $400usd plus all day on eBay and here you are stating they cost $40 more than something that is between $125-$200usd? Of course they both outperform it. In the video we said these cards are great for native rendering 1080p gaming. Did you even watch the video? Did you do any research before leaving both of your comments?
