We see him progress throughout the movie and I think he plays it well, it's a slow process in real life, just like in the movie. Then again tom's character was also just a vehicle to get insight into the samurai's story so i don't think the film needed anything more from Mister cruise than what he did

When we were entering to the cinema, we agree that it cant be as good as lotr and we agree this would be an ordianry holywood movie. I watched this movie as a kid and would have placed it in my top 10. For some reason I hadn't seen it again for several years. I just watched this a few months ago and it took my breath away. • This AMAZING fictional story did shed some good light on the Samurai's presence at the time as well as even the influence they have on many modern day traditions- Honor, duty, Courage. This is Top 3 movies for me, and this would have been Nowhere Near as good w/Out Hans' Incredible Academy award winning soundtrack. It does for this movie what the Gladiator soundtrack did for that movie- Help Immensely by bringing the viewers Emotions deeply into the Great stories they are.

  • Why is it out of all the soundtracks this score is the one that seems to cut the deepest. Hans has a fantastic ability to transport you right to wherever your mind takes you when listening to his art/scores. I personally love this score as it is full of so much heart, feeling, loss and honour. I know this is loosely based on a French soldier Jules Brunet who was sent over to train Japanese soldier but this film was amazing. One of my favourites for sure. The end fight scene is brutal personally. A lot to be said for honour in this day and age. Another great film with a masterpiece soundtrack. Seeing it performed live in March was an experience I will never forget and neither will anyone else there.
