    • For me it was always The Breaking of the Fellowship, I had a particularly awful office job and on my walk to work I would imagine an orchestra playing it, and really focus on the last part where it becomes more hopeful and optimistic, and by the time I reached the office I felt like I could face another day. That was 15 years ago and it still puts that same swell in my heart every time I hear it (and the original version played by the New Zealand orchestra, which is slightly different than the version that made it into the movie). True soundtrack to my adult life.

    • @@salvatoredebella4502 ~ yeah, I completely understand. "The Hobbit" was the first "REAL" book I read. It changed my life forever as well. However, It took several years later for me to get all the way through ( and really understand ) the entire "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. It makes me happy that J.R.R. Tolkien, with the urging and support of his friends, did complete his masterpiece... AND, not only did he finish this herculean task - with all the created histories and original languages - what's even better is when it was finally published it was a critical & popular success right from the moment it appeared in book shops. ( And still is to this very day! ) Unlike so many other authors, J.R.R. Tolkien lived to see his life's work become world famous, beloved by so many. Generations celebrate his work, and it's even reshaped our culture. Well, our pop-culture anyways. I remember in school, my friends would be talking about different parts of "the trilogy" - Have you gotten to "This part with the black riders yet?" "You mean the naz-ghouls?" (Who?) "Do you think Gandalf is dead?" ( Yes! ) etc... No live action films yet, but there were animated films, along with another film called "Wizards" that became an underground classic. There were art books & calendars by the Brothers Hildebrandt; Twin artists that painted exactly alike and who created all the first sensational visuals for the trilogy. ( Tim Hildebrandt's painting of "Smaug" is incredible! ) Every weekend was spent in someone's basement playing the first edition of "Dungeons & Dragons" - for those who just could not be fulfilled by reading J. R. R. Tolkien's books alone - but needed to actually PLAY the story over and over again. Tolkien created a new literary drug and it was addictive! Then, suddenly... one of the biggest rock bands in our teenaged-world started singing about things in the trilogy! In our eyes, the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy could receive no higher standard of excellence than to become the stuff of "rock n' roll mythology". It was a phenomenon. It still is, and I believe it will forever be so. Not because of the films or music, ( yes both are wonderful ) but because all of that is based on "The Lord of the Rings" - J.R.R. Tolkien's true literary masterpiece. Books this good make your life better.

I feel when people do watch these movies it's never quite what they expect. The level of immersion Jackson and Co. achieved was worthy of Tolkien imo and that is why they were so successful. The real secondary world. Other fantasy just isn't the same.

    • It isn't mediaeval, it's meant to be much, much older than that period. Tolkien constructed a 'history' for England based on the Norse/Germanic sagas, which is why his work stands head and shoulders above average fantasy stuff, and is really in a category of its own. I hope you read the books, as they are so much better than the films (and I love the films!).

  • Matthew 13:18-23 18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. 20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. 22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

  • This mix contains, in my opinion, the best soundtracks of the trilogy. Due to copyright, some tracks are shortened and have some rough transitions. Make sure to download the full 65 minute mix.
