I think they wanted to show a little bit of real history. Historically, after the battle of Ethandun, wich is the last one where Ivar dies, the Viking army was defeated and one of their leaders, Guthrum, got baptised and was given the lands of east Anglia.

Hvitserk was just so lost. He was the most useless son of Ragnar. Sigurd should have been highlighted way better and Bjorn should have been redeemed as a Father and Leader like in the Sagas

i never ever ever ever ever ever ever forgave hvitserk for this. i didnt. the show ended with my hatred towards hvitserk and sorrow for ivar. quite the twist of events
