"DELIVERY" Rage leads to regret in this animated short film by Patrick Smith

2020 ж. 22 Нау.
2 202 581 Рет қаралды

Abuse leads to rage as two friends compete for a delivered package. Was the result of this conflict worth the prize found within the box? "Delivery" deals with the realistic consequences of rage and violence, even within a cartoon setting.
Director Note:
"My big brother used to do this thing called the "CRAW", it's when he would grab me by my face, lift me off the ground, and throw me. I was a little dude. Anyway, that is the impetus of my least favorite film I've ever made "DELIVERY"
-Patrick Smith #patricksmith #animation
"This is a wordless and darkly comic piece that turns no action longueurs into the heartbeat of a diabolical comic timing, deftly rendering suspense out of the spaces between movements and expressions."

  • I absolutely loved the scene where the white haired guy faded out of consciousness into the weird trippy world (seemingly a concussion). Im not sure if it was intended but the part of his roommate LITERALLY walking all over him really explained the dynamic between the characters. That as well their very beginning interactions really sold the idea of the hero and the villain, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was no grand victory. No matter who won they both would have ended up the same, full of mistakes and nothing to show for it

  • I wonder what the guy was thinking when he picked up the box from the door. If there was nothing inside, he should've been able to feel that there wasn't anything simply by moving the box around. They both should've been able to recognize there was nothing in the box during the moments they held it, yet they both still fought for it. The brown haired guy seemed like a jerk though, and had probably been one for awhile. For some reason, he may have thought something good was inside, despite there being no apparent labeling and the certainty he should've gotten that it was empty when he moved it around, but he could've also just wanted a reason to play some cruel tricks on the white-haired guy (Although, from the way they were looking at each other, they probably genuinely thought there was something of value in it). If this was the first time something like this happened, the white-haired guy would've been ticked off sure, but definitely not willing to kill the other guy. So while it definitely was wrong to kill the brown-haired guy, there is still some blame on his side from fucking with someone so much they reach their breaking point and snap. At the same time, the white-haired guy murdered a man, one that he knew for a while at that (although from the description, their relationship was abusive, so knowing him for a long time wouldn't really help. For example, would you knowing your torturer for 3 years make you treat them better than a stranger? Probably not.), for a random box that he didn't know the contents of, and, for all he knew, could be something worthless. It could just be that while he was expecting something decent from the box, he was mainly focused on killing the other guy because of his rage, and the box would just be a nice prize he would get, only for him to find out it had nothing in it, and realize that he had committed murder for essentially nothing. However, although anger was obviously a factor in this whole thing, a little bit of stupidity also comes into play here. The white-haired guy was unnecessarily happy for a box, and for some reason couldn't tell it was empty from both its weight and the fact that no sound came from inside when the box was shaked, implying that there's nothing in there (and this was before the whole fight thing, I doubt he had so much rage at the time that it'd blind him from obvious things like this), although this could be seen as a little nitpicky. Really though, both people are at blame here, and even though it's only an animation, it's kind of sad to see how this whole thing could've been avoided if the two friends had a better relationship and just decided to open the box together. They'd be disappointed, sure, but it definitely wouldn't be as bad as what happened in the video. Also, the package delivery guy at the end of the video with a box makes me curious as to whether that's just an extra bit that's unrelated to the story of the video, or if the guy took the original box and replaced it with an empty one. Regardless, it wouldn't have really mattered, the white-haired guy might've actually gotten something had the delivery guy not (hypothetically) swapped it, but he most likely would've still committed murder.

I wasn't going to post this, but based on the reaction it's getting, I guess i'm glad I did. it's a personal film, and is probably too dark and violent for some people.. but the violence is expressing something very specific.. the idea that rage and revenge don't lead to anything.

  • Well, everything in this video was a blast. I've become a fan of yours since the POUR series. The most heartbreaking moment of this film is when both of them are confronting each other and the brown haired guy sees the other bleeding. In that moment, his face turns to be sad, as if now he was realizing that what he's done was wrong. And then, when the white haired one grabs his face and caresses it, it's like he's recording the lasts shreds of life from his friend before snapping his neck. Like, there was some doubt because he knew what he wanted to do but was still thinking about how wrong it was. But in the end, the rage was stronger than humanity.

The result is a tangled mess of things that likely both regret, all told, assuming the existence of an afterlife in the world of this animation. btw I really liked the fluid reality-breaking animation illustrating how the light-haired roomate felt like a doormat.

But other than that i think you did an amazing job at this animation because of how much detail and oviase sybalism there is in this animation. And it is always the animations about abuse that sure can touch all of us and make us fell some empathy for others.

  • from what I understand... the story shows two happy brothers having a good time, until one of them opens the door and it's a delivery man who gives the box to the one with white hair who is happy! However, the other one wants the box too and took it from his brother, still hurting him. What did the one with white hair hallucinate, after that he went to his brother and before bending his neck he thought...he was sad however...he did 4:46 so next to his dead brother was the box he picked up but when he opened the box there was nothing...which says he killed his own brother for a stupid box but he soon regretted it Thanks for reading ❤❤❤

  • The short is all about two boys who want a box. However when things don’t go well for the white hair man he wreaks havoc. The short is all about obsession . The two men’s wanted what was in the yellow box really really badly. It all started fine as the white hair man took the yellow box just for himself, when he refused to give it to brown hair man, he resulted in force. Even when the white hair man wanted it , the brown hair man beater him up for no good reason. The white hair man felt like he deserved the box so badly that he had hallucinations about the brown haired man taking his box as well as lots of other copies of him. The white hair man was so angry that he KILLED the brown haired man in the end. At last, he was so happy to get the yellow box the thing that he felt like that he really deserved. However when he opened it, there was nothing. The two of them were fighting for absolutely nothing for the whole time. The white haired man sat on the sofa sadly as he killed his friend for nothing. The short was all about greed. The two men really did fight for that box and they wanted what was inside the box , the box seemed extremely useful due to something nice inside, however since their was nothing in the box at all, the fight now seemed pointless. The white hair man really went out of his way to kill his friend just so he can get the box but remember it was greed that made him do it . The brown haired also used force on him, so it made more sense to why the white haired man was obsessed with it, why would the brown haired man use force on him for only a box? There must be something good inside that he doesn’t want me to have. That was probably his thoughts. So all this rage and greed for nothing as there was no reward. Lesson of the day do not fight for something that looks worthy when it is truly worthless. Overall, the short is nicely animated and probably underestimated. Rating : 9.14 ( Excellent )

  • This animation is very good at depicting the precise way someone acts that leads to violence or violent thoughts. In particular getting aggressive or violent/abusive themselves when confronted. It's like they leave you no other option. You'd think humans are smarter than animals and yet so many of them can't be reasoned with words alone. It's sad more than anything
