For a long time i have wanted to dig around this old yard behind the barns so I decided to spend an afternoon hunting treasure.

  • Need to get a metal detector in there! My dad's place is a similar age and I detected it and found all sorts like old buckles, coins, lead tokens etc, fun to find the history

  • I might be absolutely wrong, but if those low 'doors' come from a winterpen, then you might be digging up a compost heap, and those doors are just throw-out hatches. It would explain the bones as well then, as, again not sure, I think they are from livestock. They are certainly not human. The back low-wall might have been for a pig.

  • Kept expecting to see Tony Robinson and Phil suddenly appear. Have you tried looking at the national library of Scotland? There are old maps on there that can be viewed next to modern ones. You may be able to see the layout of the farm as it was in the past.

  • I'd suggest that what it isn't is an old viking grave, nor even a Roman bath house - or brothel come to that. So probably someone's dumped a load of badly mixed concrete...

  • I think inwpuld be tempted to knock the door through that's bricked up, I was thinking it's a shelter, the concrete sounded hollow to me when you stamped on it. So maybe it wa then bricked up hence the door being like it is.

  • Sometimes you get a friend who will joke and say that maybe it was a human bone and you can get the police to do the rest of the digging for you. This won't make you popular! Don't do it! Check the messages from your site for a question.

  • An interesting dig into the past. I also think that it is the "compost" from the adjoining pens. Please DO NOT do time lapse from inside the digger, I almost lost my breakfast! 🤮

    • Yes I couldn’t watch it either the camera needed to be on the outside looking at the bucket, but even that is bad to watch and I like discoveries so keep that part up.
