Two things about Aljo that stick out to me: he's just a great dude and a straight up class act. Even when he was getting ALL that hate after the first Yan fight, he kept it together and stayed classy for the most part. He was also humble in defeat against Sean. And the second thing is this: he was completely counted out for the second Yan fight. Everyone thought he was gonna get destroyed (including me), and yet he mixed it up with the take downs and out grappled him. Under all that pressure, he still performed and got the win. I'll always respect him for that. I do think a lot of the hate comes from how he won the first title. I get it. But, man, he parleyed that into a stellar run in one of the best divisions in the UFC. I hope more people come around on him, and I think many are doing just that.

If a football team wins the world cup 1-0 with a penalty kick not a single fan will say "they're not true champions". It's a sport with a ruleset, a foul is a foul and Jan's was literally the most BLATENT one you could ever do. Step 1 of any sport is surely to learn the f***ing rules.

The problem is he NEVER won the title honorably , he ACTED his way to being a champ off a foul and then flaunted the belt and started posting champ shit when he NEVER should of REGARDLESS of what ANYONE told him. Anthony Smith was put in the SAME situation against jon jones and he did not pull what aljo did and he is RESPECTED AND LOVED for it . THIS IS FACT NO ONE CAN ARGUE PERIOD.
I actually love hearing Aljo talk about all the little mechanics of fighting . He can articulate all the little nuances in the movements and processes of fighting .
to bad he cant actually do the movements himself in fighting , the guy has the worst stand up skills on a fighter with over ten years of fight experience i have ever seen . the guy WAS A UFC CHAMPION AND LITERALLY RAN AT SEAN OMALLY WITH HIS HANDS DOWN in 2023 smh trash . he has a Coaches mind NOT a FIGHTERS mind . i bet aljo will eventually have a stable of champions .

Love AlJo. He’s an amazing fighter. Got to see him fight at ufc 214 in person. He came back BETTER after a KO. He trains under legends. I will always be a big fan. Great interview (and I broke my hand when he beat petr , through them up in the air and hit a beam)
I met both Aljo and Merab after UFC 281 last year completely randomly. They were such nice dudes. Aljo even changed the settings on my phone for better selfies. I wish them all the best!

Hear me out on this. There should be another 10point score if a fight goes the distance based on physical damage done. IMO it's a valid way to determine effective striking. Although I also understand some guys have more scar tissue and are more prone to cuts, nate Diaz and wanderli Silva come to mind. I always think about the time bisping beat henderson or other close fights where a damage score could "settle the score" so to say. Love the content MM and love to hear your opinion on the subject.
