Trying AMERICAN DINER FOOD & Truck Stop in Germany!
We've tried "American" Food Products according to Germany.... and different BBQ and American branded restaurants. Today, we wanted to try this American Diner off of a highway here in Germany. Right next to a truck stop station and even formerly having a trucker menu, we could really see this place in the USA. The question is, how good is the foood???

The pasta is called Rigatoni.
Guess what Nobody cares about you not caring, in fact nobody cares what you think about anything.
It looks like Ziti
Thanks!
@@richardjohnson4365 ziti is smooth and a little smaller.
Dachte ich auch erst, aber das Internet sagt es sind eher Tortiglioni, wegen der verdrehten Rillen.
i was a truck driver for years in the US, and chili fries, as i think they are named in most places in the US... are fantastic! great video!
The mini juke box at the table, with country songs on it would make a nice touch
It looked like you didn't like the burger. I've never seen sweet peppers on nachos.
Homemade "hamburger helper" is a really affordable meal even if you have to make the Mac and cheese. You can put veg in also. 😋 Keep having fun you two.
Rigatoni noodles :)
Correct.
Thanks!
The food looks great 🙂🇩🇰
Food looks good! That said, I don't think that I'd ever had a plate of loaded nachos in Europe that competed with the ones that you can get in the USA. I like the play on Route 66 with the restaurant's name!
Daughter & niece of 2 truck drivers......when it comes to the coffee order back in North America, its LEADED meaning REGULAR coffee or EXTRA LEADED meaning STRONGER coffee. The food is the typical menu offered at truck stops.
Great video, thanks guys! As a Texan who's lived in Germany for 26 years, if I had been there, I would have been upset by that chili con carne: (1) beans and corn in the chili, and (2) served over french fries. Maybe if they had called it "chili cheese fries" instead of "chili con carne" I wouldn't have minded so much. I'm also not a fan of those noodles in mac and cheese. It is possible to get "proper" narrow macaroni noodles in Germany. Thanks for taking us on your food journey with you!
I understand your "rage".^^ But they actually call it Mexican-Fries (hot) with Chili-con-Carne, Beef, Corn and Beans. So not completely wrong.^^
I love that you have American food in Germany, look at all the cuisines we have in America, including German, let's spread the wealth, lol. Thanks Phil and Deana
When they are decorated like this we have to try them! Here's another great one at a Texas style BBQ joint in Germany! kzhead.info/sun/qKhtj6uoaJaHe4U/bejne.html
Deana and Phil, i was racking my brain yesterday when looking at this place and thinking I've seen this place, but where and with who, lol, thinking maybe it was the rib place, I will watch and see if that is what I am remembering. Thanks
These aren't American foods...they're just modern, vapid foods. Super general and considering America does have its own ethnic cuisine, this is so stereotypical, incorrect, and lazy. We have multiple fish dishes, stews, soups, casseroles, flatbreads, etc. to choose from but sure...foreigners just hyperfixate on French fries and think they nailed the U.S. 😅
nette9836, Yes America has cuisines from around the world and that's what I love, but most of us grew up on these basics as a treat and as young adults to suit our tight budgets, so it's nice to see other cultures embrace them imho.
I’m American, and it’s a treat for us to eat at a local German restaurant. It’s run by a German family. We lived in Germany for 6 years, so I think I understand authentic German cooking. So many foreign cuisines Americanize their food. I feel this German restaurant does a good job is staying true to its roots.😊
Where did the "diced raw bell pepper goes on everything" and "serve it on a slate!" stuff come from? Everything looks like it's 95% amazing with some bizarre twist. Chili con CORN-e, anyone?
This video reminds me of when I tried to find Mexican food in England. I live in L.A., so I know Mexican food. Some of the places I tried in the UK attempted Mexican food very poorly (corn relish on a taco instead of spicy salsa, etc) but I did find a place in London called Cafe Pacifico that was quite good. As for your video, red and green bell peppers do not belong on nachos. Sliced jalapenos and black olives would be better choices. And corn on chili fries? No thanks! The burger looked pretty good, though.
Mexican food turns me off. That is the last kind of food that I would ever look for.
"The Busted Knuckle Garage" Sign behind Deana is one we also have in our shop. :) It seems funny seeing it other places.
Heys dudes, in Australia we have egg & beetroot on our burgers & pineapple on other style burgers 🇦🇺🇦🇺🍻🤘
Danke für den Tipp! Wenn ich das nächste mal da hoch fahre, plane ich nen Stopp ein.
Never tried it like that my go-to is the Cracker barrel home box version, but because pasta is my bag baby, those are rigatoni noodles. The typical wedding in America will have a pasta/sausage marinara buffet using these noddles..
Mac and cheese is one of those pasta dishes were shape and size actually matter and penne just doesn’t seem right for that dish lol
Agreed! It's not the same
Germany has loaded nachos? Yassssss!!!!!!
Looks like a cool place. Food looked really good too.
Rigatoni ... damn it... Italians will roast you :D
It’s called rigatoni that they made your macaroni and cheese out of and it should’ve been made with elbow
Once got nacchos from a pizza place here in Germany and it was awfull lol, too big pieces of jalapeno, the cheese was gratin-cheese and they really put the nachos in the ofen for the gratin-cheese, they put storebought salsa on top and misslabled it as ketchup-dip ... em
Danke, dass Ihr Euch für uns überfressen habt. Immerhin weiß ich, wo ich einmal essen könnte, wenn ich an D'df vorbeifahre. Vorschlag für weitere Diners: Miss Pepper, z. B. in Bornheim.
I just love watching these video's. I'm a mixture of Dutch/German/American, living in the netherlands. My favorite dish is Chili con carne, although i eat it with basmati rice. Never knew it originated from the US. Might try it with homemade fries next time.
Those nachos needed meat. Taco meat or shredded pork or beef. Hold the cheez wiz and use a better cheddar or Monterey Jack. They needed onions and guacamole. Those were movie theater nachos! I like chili in a bowl with cornbread. A little shredded cheese on top.
Rigatoni pasta! This is still not Mac n Cheese. Love your show!
Can you try Smoke BBQ in the northern part of Düsseldorf? :)
We made a video there last year! kzhead.info/sun/qKhtj6uoaJaHe4U/bejne.html
Yep, as advised that's rigatoni pasta.. penne is like a quill and is slanted at the tips .. Great vid❤ you guys are very watchable.. love 🇩🇪 ..danke sehr!! ❤
We never crave American food when we travel but when we get home, the first thing we usually get is Thai or something else spicy. Definitely nothing is spicy enough for us in Europe, but I LOVE German food and other European foods.
Deana, Phil just wanted to pay you to finish the mac & cheese, right? He did not put a time limit on when you finished it! Make him pay!
Being in Texas for 30 plus years, I haven't had the chili con carne with fries but will check the menus for it. The nachos looked pretty good but needed chopped tomatoes and pickled jalapeno slices. Everything looked delicious.
5:08 I do believe that they used Rigatoni in that dish, not a bad choice for a saucy and/or cheesy pasta recipe I think. =^.^=
Rigatoni is my favorite for when I do mac 'n cheese bakes. Rigatoni and beschamel, a couple handfuls of fresh shredded cheese, then topped with panko breadcrumbs and a few more sprinkles of cheese, popped into the oven to brown the top. So good!
In the U.S. we generally use Elbow Macaroni for M&C. Those in your dish appear more like Tortiglioni pasta to me. To be fair ANY small pasta bathed in a creamy processed cheese sauce wins it for me. Being a Texican (Texas-New Mexico), my fave is green chili (Hatch, NM chilies) bacon mac'n cheese. Cheers Guys.
That's the other one I was trying to remember. Tortiglioni and Rigatoni are so similar. XD =^.^=
Living in Zürich and now London we most miss good smokey American style bacon!! Also breakfast sandwiches, and unsweetened iced tea. Always enjoy your videos! 😊🥓🇺🇲🇩🇪
that place nailed it ,
you should try star diner in aachen! the food is really good and they have a big selection of milkshakes. and it looks like your classic american diner
Nice video! What type of camera do you use?
I have to visit my dear neighbors again 😂. I love you too België’s.
They all be “Cooking up a Storm” right over there… Glad, y’all 2 both enjoyed every bite… 😂🍽😂🍽
Those must be artificial palm trees 🌴.
Missed you guys 😊
There's one off the autobahn somewhere around Nuremburg, if I remember correctly. Very 1950s style with a jukebox and really good food. If anyone knows the one I am talking about, let me know!
Burger looks good. The lettuce and tomatoes look good. No onion red of course. Yum.
Chili con carne would typically not have beans
I was also surprised when Deanna said the cole slaw sauce was sweeter than she expected. I was expecting it to be not sweet.
That is a true New York burger. $16 for a $8 burger.
I make chili fries at home all the time
Ooh, I don't even want to read the comments to see how many Texans replied! ;). Texas Chili is never "con carne" and they are religious about it. It is ALL carne, period. No "con," but rather "sin"; sin tomatoes, sin beans and sin onions. Traditional chili con carne, with beans, tomatoes, onions and even green peppers is standard where I'm from, the Midwest. Texans usually outright reject Midwest chili. Meat and only meat for them. Curious too if they had iced tea or "sweet" tea, which I know you two are quite familiar with. It's a diner staple too. I imagine sweet tea though would be too sweet for most Germans. Too sweet for me too.
Since on my recent travels in America, discovering how much I love sweet tea (half and half) ...no. There is no sweet tea in Germany. There are no iced soft drinks, really, so sweet tea cannot find its place. I look forward to my next trip to America where I can drink another sweet tea full of ice, with free refills. I'm happy to discover that sweet tea is working its way north in America!
There is nothing like Diner food. In the Northeast US its a classic! The best burgers and fries are found at a Diner! As for the Macaroni and Cheese, usually we as Americans are used to what we call Elbow Macaroni, rather than Rigatoni or Penne - though if you were in Italy, there is an Italian dish that uses Rigatoni with a creamy cheese sauce and bacon...mmmm. Love your videos. Not sure how the two of you doo not weigh 500 lbs!! LOLOL
I don't even like mac and cheese. But once at a diner I had mac and cheese with stewed tomatoes and after sprinkling on salt and pepper that was really good, otherwise mac-and-cheese reminds me of teenager food. 🤔
The chili con carne fries YUMMM! I would definitely order that
Hi Deana and Phil have a nice weekend
Hi
@@daykibaran9668 Hi 👋
Hi you two! Hope you have a lovely weekend!!
@@DeanaandPhil Thank you.
For those outside of the US, the majority of us don’t eat like this on a regular basis, or at all. I know that’s the stereotype, but it’s not really true for most people. The main problem with US food is that, unlike Europe for instance, it’s more manufactured than natural. When I visit Europe, I never have stomach issues, because the bread, the meat, etc. is not filled with poisons like in the US.
I have lived in United States for 63 years and I never eat this kind of food that they just ate. I would never consume all that artificial cheese sauce.
What would your typical meal be in the US?
@@andreadee1567 meatloaf mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffed peppers, beef stew, baked chicken, steak and baked potato, chicken parmesan, lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, fresh fish or shrimp meal, homemade soup, most people will eat their meal with a salad or at least two vegetables.
However, it is refreshing, like real German food in US
I have never had stomach issues and I eat garbage all day in the US. You are just a genetic dead end.
Unusual for a frie to be deep fried
I've been to so many Mexican restaurants in California (some of them semi-authentic, locally owned, some of them more Mexican-American chain restaurants) and I don't think I've ever seen a single one of them offer an extra pitcher of nacho cheese to pour on your nachos. It's a genius move when you think about it. Everybody wants more nacho cheese. It's stupid not to offer it, even if the restaurant wants to charge an extra fee. People want more nacho cheese! Give the people what they want!
When you order too much food in a German restaurant, do they offer a "to go" box so you can eat your leftovers later?
yes just ask the waiter to pack your stuff:)
some decades ago this would have been a joke in germany: would you please pack that up? it's for the dog. And the kids go: But mom, we don't have a dog.... i personally don't order that much food, so i don't need a doggy bag. It is possible, even here in the US. My wife does get the leftovers packed up quite often. She does not like leftovers, though.... Maybe fried rice at the chinese place.
It is considered a bit odd in nicer restaurants to ask to take leftovers with you, at least it was a few years ago. Now maybe it's more appropriate? The thing is, a lot of restaurants will not have to-go boxes so you'll get your sirloin steak handed to you in aluminum foil and you have to walk around town like that.
It's definitely not as common in Germany (compared to the US) to ask for a "to go" box. We usually bring our own food containers when we know we are going to film. I don't think we'd ever order this much food on a casual food outing.
Route 46 is oldest, most direct US highway into New York from New Jersey. It is also notorious for traffic jams.
Route 66
@uliwehner I was writing about the restaurant, which is off route 46 in Germany. I would not have named an American themed restaurant that, knowing what route 46 in NJ is like. They are trying to make it seem like route 66 which runs from Chicago to Los Angeles. BTW there are many other highways in US which are more important and interesting than Route 66. US 1 running from Maine to Florida. Route 30 from Philadelphia to Nebraska the oldest paved US Highway. The National pike from Washington DC to Ohio the oldest US, government road. ROUTE 66 is overrated.
46 in Germany is also clogged every day: (
That food looked very nice & definitely like you would have here in the USA.❤
How many years have I been watching you guys handle cutlery to only now notice Deana is left handed? Or ambidextrous?
What is the best cheese for those mac&cheese and how to make it? Any expert opinions here?
Do you in general eat all the food you ordered? 😂 Just curious, because it always looks like A LOT! :D Love your videos!
You should try the restaurant were they only have ice cream and cakes... They have a lasagna, no it's ice-cream, but it looks like real hot food. They have a lot of funny things to eat. Mabey there are similar places in USA.. 😊 Big hugs from Denmark 💝🌹🥰
Mix your mayo and ketchup together for your fries.
It's funny because I eat at diners all the time and not once have I ever thought of getting a burger. When I go to a diner or think of a diner, I think of Meatloaf mashed potatoes and gravy, liver and onions, an omelet with home fries, or a club sandwich. Never once have I ever gotten a burger. 👍🏻👍🏻❤🇺🇸🙏🏻
Deana, That's not traditional Mac n' Cheese ! Traditional Mac n' Cheese is made with elbow macaroni which those noodles are not !
Mac and Cheese usually has elbow macaroni in it. Those noodles look like rigatoni. Either way, it looks delish!!
Yes that pasta with processed cheese is not noodles is maccheroni but more exactly are tortiglioni rigati. Noodles are only for Chinese oriental type of food
it looked so good and just like the US if you ask me.
I went to Route 66 in Berlin when I was there Jan 2022.
I am curious what kind of meals you guys make at home, when you are not trying to recreate any fast food item.
I am also curious.
Wow! That’s one fancy-pants diner!! I wonder if it’s owned/operated by American expats or something- everything looked fantastic 😃👍👍👍
It's runnen by a moraccan family
Chili cheese fries are definitely an American staple.
Try to visit Star Diner in Essen. It is also an american style restaurant//// könnt ihr den star diner in essen probieren? es befindet sich am lichtbogen und schmeckt sehr gut und ist immer sehr voll
If you didn’t say where you were, people might think you were eating at a restaurant in the USA!
I make mac & cheese at home all the time so it’s not something I order at restaurants. But that one did look good & cheesy. When I make it, I use whatever pasta I feel like: elbow, rotini, shells, farfalle, etc. Anything that is medium sized that will be a good vehicle for the cheeeeeeeeze 😂
Barilla calls this Pasta shape Tortiglioni
I don’t think of nachos as dinner food
Put fries in tartar sauce. I guarantee your brain will think they taste like fish if you've only used tartar sauce on fish for most of your life.
Isn't there kasespatzle in Germany, which should be pretty similar to mac and cheese?
Mmm. French with Chili and Cheese. Yes. I’m from California. Never been or care to go to Texas.
That’s how I make my coleslaw.
We don't call the pasta Macaroni :D We call it Penne
Hello, my favorite lovely couple. Great video, I like the license plates, so American... Take care folks!
og texas chilli ist ohne bohnen :)
This couple is great. This couple are great. How do you say this in German? Is or are?
Dam that a huge plate of Nachos. ! Heart-burn maybe?!
Called rigatoni “pasta pene noodles” wow 😂
Wauwvdat was veel eten en lekker eten 🎉🎉
Mac(aroni) and cheese is literally what it is 😂
I love when you two grab delicious eats!!! American or German it warms my heart!!!! That's a decent diner. Hit a Backfischfest - it's about that time for the one in Worms :) Ketsch already passed.
I like fries that go crunch mmmmmmm
Soulfood! Gibts leider viel zu selten in Deuschland! :)
Das einzige Problem was ich mit loaded fries habe, ist die Matschigkeit . Ansonsten alles lecker. Love you guys
What???? I use a Mayo & Mustard mixture for my fries... hardly ever use Ketchup.
Most Italians call all noodles/ pasta "macaroni". 🍜 🍝 Same difference 😂 just yummy goodness 🤤
